The discussion on the radio show focuses on the Super Bowl and the performances of the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs. They talk about how the game started off slow and low-scoring, with the 49ers having a strong defense. They also discuss the future of the 49ers, their potential free agent signings, and their chances of returning to the playoffs. They mention other teams in the NFC that could be contenders next year, such as the Eagles, Cowboys, and Lions. They also discuss the Chiefs' defense and their ability to stop the 49ers' momentum in the game. Overall, they have a positive outlook on the 49ers' future and believe they have a good chance of making it to the NFC Championship next year. You're listening to WCCU Sports Network on Coastal Carolina University student-run radio station. This is the first afternoon broadcast this Tuesday. You're here with us at Sports Uncaged. I'm your host, Shane, and I'm with Davis Meyers. Continuing on the Super Bowl, the Super Bowl, a 25-22 overtime, Chiefs won an overtime, excuse me. Let's talk about the start of the game, actually. Let's kind of go through this strategically. I feel like San Francisco did a great job of keeping the ball, so at time of possession, I feel like they did a great job at setting the tone first, and their defense really stood out for me. The defenses on both teams played unbelievably, especially in the first quarter. Sorry. It's okay. What was the score after the third quarter, 3-0 or 0-0? Third quarter? First quarter. Oh, first quarter. 0-0. Yeah, it was nothing. 0-0. It was off to a very slow start. It was looking like the Rams-Patriots back in 19, right? 19? Yeah. Even going into halftime, it was only 10-0 or 10-3. Yeah, it was 10-3, 49ers, and I was thinking it was going to be like a 13-6 game, a 20-13 game. If you came into this game thinking that it wasn't going to be high-scoring, I would have thought that that was funny, but that's the way it kind of turned out. Right. It's a tale of both sides because the Chiefs, you know, like the whole year, they're mentioned for their defense and the San Francisco 49ers are mentioned for their offense more so. I don't know about that. You think it's defense? That 49ers defense is loaded, and so is the offense. Yeah, I think the 49ers are a complete team. I would agree with you on that. Yeah. I feel like San Francisco, you know, like this team, like this year was the best shot to winning the whole thing, in my opinion. I agree. They have people that they're going to need to pay this offseason, but the most important thing to think about is not this offseason, it's next offseason. Yep. Because they are going to have to spend a lot of money that they don't have. Right. And it just goes to show that, you know, what if they can't pay like Brock Purdy or like Fred Warner? I'm not really too sure yet on when like Brock Purdy's last year. Brock Purdy is still on a rookie scale contract. That's huge. Because he was drafted last year. Right. Wow. So he's only got two years down in a three or four year contract. Right. I think that's huge for San Francisco right now, like to keep Brock Purdy, like not low, but like keep him at a good amount until they get more money. There's no denying that once Brock Purdy becomes eligible to become a free agent, they're going to have to pay him a lot of money. A lot of money. Unless this next season doesn't go well for them. Right. It could. I'm not going to say Brock Purdy's not good. I mean, I think he's really good, but he's had the best weapons in the league all season. A best defense to help him out. The best defense in the league, in my opinion, other than the Ravens. Yeah. I'm with you. You know, he's gotten criticized a lot this season for being somewhat of a game manager or a check down guy. I don't necessarily agree or disagree with that statement because I've seen him throw pretty deep balls, but then it's also like half of the touchdowns that the 49ers have are a little dumb play. Short passes. Yeah. A little screen. Ebo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey, or Brandon Aiyuk take it. Yeah. Two yard screens. You know, a little. And receivers and running back. But still. Take it for like 15, 20 yards for the TD. I feel like San Francisco has had a great use of their weapons and stuff like that, but I feel like they'll be right back in the position next year, but I feel like they won't make the Super Bowl. I feel like maybe another team will. I'm not really too sure yet. I don't even think I can begin to try to understand who's going to be in the mix for the NFC Championship next year. As of right now, I really think only four teams could do it, and two of them have to bounce back. You want to list all four of them? The Eagles could make it. They have to have a big bounce back here, but I believe that they can make it. The Cowboys can make it. They need to get over their playoff hump, which is going to be tough to do because they kept their same coach. They're going to keep Dak. And not that they can't win with those things, but they haven't yet. No. They can win. They can win. They can definitely go to the NFC Championship and maybe even win. But again, that's a long stretch for the Cowboys. Number three, the Detroit Lions. They showed me a lot this year. They're going to lose a couple of guys, I think. Most importantly, they may lose C.J. Gardner-Johnson, who only signed a one-year deal. So there's definitely going to be some holes in their team, but I think they're very well-coached. Their coordinators both decided to stay with the team, and they were both up for head coaching jobs at the end of the year. So I think the Lions will be right back in it. I'm right with you. And the 49ers will be back in. Of course. I feel like they'll be back. I mean, they're my favorites from the Super Bowl. I got like a plus 500, which is like the day after the Super Bowl is done. I don't necessarily agree with that. Not that I think the Chiefs should be the favorite for next year. I don't have a specific team I think that should be the favorite. But I don't know if it's the 49ers. Yeah, it could be like the Eagles or the Lions or the Cowboys. I don't know. I don't really... It could be like a soccer team like the Packers, maybe, could somehow make a crazy run. I never really like favorites right after the Super Bowl. I don't like that. Because things that happen during the season, and even in the offseason, are unpredictable. Right. Like, the San Francisco 49ers could lose Brock Purdy, they could lose Debo Samuel, they could lose George Kittle, they could lose Christian McCaffrey. And not to say that their season would be over, but they've struggled when missing pieces, like any team would. Yeah, absolutely. I feel like San Francisco has to capitalize and has to assign these players back for 2024 and a 25 season so they could be back in this position, Shane. Because they were so close, I just felt the door open for the Chiefs to come back. But what a great season for San Francisco. As of right now, I think Chase Young is the most pressing free agent signing that they need to have. I don't think they have the room to sign him because he's going to want more money than they're going to be willing to give him. And they also have to sign other guys. Right. Like, they have a lot of role guys that they are going to try to re-sign. Yeah, like who exactly? Jawan Jennings could be a role player. Huge role player, by the way. He's going to be a restricted free agent, but they're going to want to try and sign him. Right. You know what's cool is the defense of Cypher, the 49ers, who do they have to sign again or sign to the 49ers to make their defense as good as it is or better than it is right now? It's more backup players, but they're high-quality backup players. They are above-average backups. They're not starting caliber, but I wouldn't be upset if somebody went down on my team and one of them had to replace the other. Right. It's like a step-up player, you know? Next man up, guys. It's loaded. You know what? Next guy up type of thing, and that's why I play for San Francisco. We'll be back in the playoffs. Obviously, the playoffs. Shame on us. We'll be back in this position. Barring anything unforeseen, the 49ers, to me, are at least going to make the NFC Championship next year. Yeah, it could be a rematch between the Eagles, maybe. Never know. Round two. I don't know. We have Dan Franco at Philly. There's a lot of teams emerging on the NFC side, so it could be the Eagles, maybe, but I think it would be really cool to see the Lions go back. Yes, I would love that. It would be nice to see the Packers make it. Hey, Packers-Lions, NFC Championship game. Packers-49ers, or Packers-Lions. Packers-Lions. Cowboys. I don't love the Cowboys, but it would be cool to see them lose an NFC Championship. Good. Let them lose. Shane's an Eagles fan, so Shane, here's Cowboys. I'm trying to be as respectful and look at it from another perspective as I can. Right. We will be right back. You're listening to WCCU Sports Network on Coastal Carolina University's student-run radio station. This is the first afternoon broadcast of Tuesday here with us at Sports Uncaged. I'm your host, Shane McGee. I'm your co-host, Davis Myers. Alright, so the last segment we talked a lot about the 49ers. Let's talk about the Chiefs. I'm with you. Let's talk about the Chiefs on this segment. So, what did they do right in this game? There were a lot of moments where the defense held the Niners for the offense. I'm with you. I feel like they were down 10-0. I feel like the defense did a great job at stopping the momentum swings in this game. Because it was already 10-0. In a normal game, the 49ers, if they were up 10-0 at halftime, they'd probably be up 17-0 or 20-0 at halftime. Yeah, because they're the best team with a lead in the NFL. That's exactly right. Rock Hardy is the best quarterback in the league with a lead. Really? Mm-hmm. For the season. Oh, yeah, for the season. But I feel like the Chiefs did a great job, again, at stopping, like you said, Shane. I feel like they did a great job at stopping the swings in this game, like I just said before. And they did a great job of limiting Christian McCaffrey, for the most part. But, yeah, that's what I think on the defensive side. Well, I feel like the Niners stopped using McCaffrey as much in the second half, which is probably their biggest mistake to me. Mm-hmm. But that's not the only reason. Like, McCaffrey fumbled in the game. The defense forced a turnover. They did it last year in the Super Bowl. They did it this year in the Super Bowl. I didn't even think about that. Yeah, you're right. I mean, it's a little bit of a different circumstance with the timing of the turnovers. But the impact is all the same. They won both games by three. Yeah, both games by three. It's funny how it all kind of unfolded, Shane, how it was like a three-point game and it was like this. It was both competitive as well. Not only that, but the kicking team defense forced a blocked PAT. I didn't even mention that. Which would have won the Niners the game in the end, but they blocked it, so that's what forced overtime to me. I feel like you're right, but what if the Chiefs scored? I feel like it's a good conversation, but the Chiefs could have scored in the last few seconds if they wanted to. But let's just say, that's true. I'm with you. I feel like that blocked, the PAT, was huge. Huge, because it was 20... It was 19-19 going into overtime. And then when Juwan Jitting scored that touchdown, it was 19-16 and blocked extra points. One of my score predictions was actually correct. I said the score was going to be 32-25. The final score was actually 25-22. So I feel like you should get more money for that then, Shane. Yeah, I should get... Double. Double. 140 bucks. Triple, even. Yeah, triple. Triple my money. Down 6-6. But 25-22, a weird score for a Super Bowl, but Shane's prediction was weird and it was a weird score. It was. It was a weird score. I was kind of feeling like it was either going to be an offensive battle or it was going to be a really weird, weirdly defensive game. And it was weirdly defensive for two... I'm not going to say the Chiefs are as explosive as they used to be. Yeah. But with Patrick Mahomes, that's an explosive offense. And the 49ers, two explosive offenses and the score was 25-22. And it went to overtime. Right. It was a very... It was a funny game. The first few quarters, it was like punts, punts, punts. Just like stops on defense, turnovers. But then the second half, it was more of like an electric game. Another turning point of the game I want to point to is the Ray Ray McLeod muffed punt. It hit the foot, actually, of the 49ers player. So, it was a... yeah. It was very tough. It hit off somebody's foot. McLeod went to go pick it up and it slipped out of his hands and the Chiefs picked it up and they scored within the next couple of plays. It might have been the very next play. I think it was the very next play. So, it was a 10-6 49ers and it was 13-10 Chiefs in a second. In the blink of an eye, it was a change of... The game was in complete control for the 49ers at that point. And mistakes like that, you hate to see it, but it's turning points in games. You know, it's a part of football. Capitalizing on mistakes and turnovers and that muffed punt by Ray Ray McLeod that turned into seven points for the Chiefs. They must need seven points because it was already 10-6. It looked like it was going to be 17 or 13-6. But, you know, Ray Ray at Clemson, he always kind of did that. So, it's not really a shock that he did this now. But, you know what, I still love him. I'll defend him. The other thing I want to touch on is that people are saying, oh, can the Chiefs three-peat? Can they three-peat? Can they three-peat? And I think people are kind of forgetting that Tom Brady, the best quarterback ever. Yep. Right? Yes. Tom Brady had a stretch of seasons where he would make the playoffs, but he wouldn't go to the Super Bowl. He would only sporadically make championship games. Yeah. And staying good in the NFL is a hard thing to do. Absolutely. And the Chiefs have a lot of important guys, or at least to me, there's three really important guys that they have to resign this offseason because the defense was so integral to their success. And there's three big defensive players that are going to be on the market if they can't be signed. Yeah, what's the three? Cornerback LeJarrius Snead. Snead. Snead, I had him in mind. D. Lineman. Chris Jones. Chris Jones. Probably the best player on that defense. I'm with you. And safety Mike Edwards. Yeah, Mike Edwards. So if they could sign maybe two or three. So they could, what if they lose one guy? It's not likely. If they lose one guy, it's not the end of the world. But it's not like the Chiefs have all that much cap room either considering the fact Patrick Mahomes gets paid a lot of money. Yeah. Travis Kelsey gets paid a lot of money. The guys on the offensive line either get paid a lot of money or they're going to be due to get paid a lot of money soon. And Pacheco might get a raise in his cap. Pacheco maybe. Yeah, who knows. Pacheco getting an increase in pay all depends on if they sign Clyde Edwards-Alaire this offseason. I don't think they. I wouldn't see a point to do it considering that he was not used in the game. And instead of opting to use. McKinnon. They would use McKinnon or Rushie Rice to run the ball instead of Clyde Edwards-Alaire. Right. I think McKinnon is also a free agent. So. So who could pick him up? Or gets re-signed to the Chiefs? Who knows? We'll find out. And then the, probably the most important receiver of the game, McCole Hardman, he caught the touchdown that won the game. He's going to be a free agent. Right. He's the only guy on the Chiefs that I trust catches the ball regularly. And if he doesn't get re-signed, they're going to either need to draft somebody or they're going to be looking at every wide receiver possible in free agency. If they don't sign a McCole Hardman, they could draft a receiver like Keon Coleman. I have a Keon Coleman. I don't know if Keon Coleman falls to 32. They might have to go get a guy like A.D. Mitchell or Troy Franklin. Troy Franklin from Oregon. Yeah. A very explosive. I feel like they should re-sign a Hardman. And he was saying on like the after show how he didn't know that he won them the game. He was thinking like it was still like a regular game. It was kind of funny because my homies was like, dude, we won the game. He was like, oh yeah, we did win the game. I just learned that this morning. It's pretty funny. Going back to what you were saying, sorry for the – you had to put that in. I feel like they will re-sign a McCole Hardman. I hope they do. Well, actually, I don't because it's the Chiefs. It's the Chiefs. But if they did, that's what would be in their best interest. I agree with you, Shane. And make the key defensive signings. Yes. We will be right back. You're listening to WCCU Sports Network on Coastal Carolina University student-run radio station. You're here with us on the first afternoon broadcast of Tuesday with Sports Uncaged. I'm your host, Shane McGee. I'm here with – Davis Myers. Sorry about that, Shane. It's all good. But I think to start this last 10-minute segment, we should talk about where we go from here. Way too early predictions. Where do we go from here? Which team will shine or not shine next year? I think we should have to pick a Dark Horse team. We should have to pick our championship games and the Super Bowl. This is going to be exciting. Okay. So where do we start? Do we want to start with our Dark Horse teams or start with our teams that we think are going to do very well? I want to start with the Dark Horse team. All right, Shane. Go first. My Dark Horse team for next year is the Indianapolis Colts. The Indianapolis Colts. Wow. With Richardson and – They're going to get back Anthony Richardson. That's right. They are going to get Richardson. Who was not bad in his first four games but did sustain injuries in two of them. So I think he's going to come back next year. He will have had a full season to learn behind Gardner Minshew. Gardner Minshew. What a great guy to go behind. Experience is experience, you know. Right. Experience is experience. If you put experience with real skill, if you put Gardner Minshew's NFL experience with Anthony Richardson's ability athletically and as a quarterback, he's going to be good. Yeah. He's already good but how well can he be sitting behind somebody? I feel like the Colts are going to be maybe close to a playoff team. I think they were close this year with Gardner. I think they're going to be – I don't think they're going to win the AFC South but I do think that they're going to take a commanding second place and probably I'm going to say somewhere from 10 to 11 wins and anywhere from the 5 to 7 seed. They could be a 10, 7, 11, and 6 team going forward. I like that. I have two teams. I have the New York Jets or the Denver Broncos. Okay. Elaborate. Okay. Actually, sorry. The Seattle Seahawks, not the Broncos. Oh, okay, okay. Sorry. Were you thinking of Russell Wilson? Yes, I was thinking of a Russell Wilson. I have the Jets and the Seahawks. Firstly, the New York Jets, I feel like Aaron Rodgers is going to be coming back. They had to get him help on the offensive side and there's more defensive attackers. I feel like they could be a 9 and 8 team because they're 7 and 10 with having, what's his face, a baby face, a BYU quarterback, Zach Wilson. Zach Wilson. That's right. That's right. A Disney star, Zach Wilson. I feel like they could have a 9 and 8, 10 and 7 season and might be a 6 or 7 seed in the playoffs. I feel like having Garrett Wilson and they could have a wide receiver too as they could pick up Devontae Adams if they get lucky and they have Saul Skardner. I do remember that. I feel like the Jets will have, hopefully, a better year than last year. Secondly, the Seahawks. I just feel like they could be 11 and 6, 12. Well, they made the playoffs last year and they had essentially the same team this year. I just think the NFC was better this year than it was the year before. Yeah. I just feel like Geno Smith, I just feel like he has more to prove right now. And I don't, they have, not Chris Alave and Jigba. Yeah, JSN. Yeah. They have a JSN. And I feel like they could be like a 10 and 7. The same record type of team. I feel like they could make like a 6 or 7 seed push to the playoffs. Same situation as the Green Bay Packers had. Just like a dark horse, underdog team. All right. So, yeah. AFC and NFC championship, way too early predictions. I don't know. I don't know. NFC. NFC. NFC. AFC. 49ers. Lions rematch. What? I really... No, no, no. What's your AFC? Do you want to go back and forth on the NFC? Yeah, yeah. I'll go for the NFC. I think it's going to be San Francisco again. San... I want to say like Detroit, but I don't know enough about that. I'm going to say San Francisco and Green Bay. Okay. I don't know. I just feel like Green Bay is going to just become like a 11 and 6, 12 and 5 team. All right. AFC... Sorry. No, no, no. You're fine. AFC championship. I'm going. This is going to shock you. Is it not? No Chiefs? No Ravens? Bengals. Bills. I like that. AFC championship. I like that. I... I'm going to say... I don't know about the Bills. Like, there's so many good teams in the AFC right now. Here's why I think the Bills are going to make it. Because they're not going to play the Chiefs. The Bengals are. And Joe Burrow has Patrick Mahomes' number. He... You know what? He has a dad on his phone right now. He's going to make a call and beat him. I feel like... That's a really good question. I'm going to say Cincinnati and Baltimore. Of Bengals and Ravens. That's going to be a good one. Nice. Alright. Super Bowl prediction time. Dang. It's going to be... Okay. It's going to be a Lions-Bengals Super Bowl. And the Cincinnati Bengals are going to win the Super Bowl. Wow. They're going to win their first Super Bowl next year. Wow. That's really... I... I'm going to say... San Francisco and Baltimore. And a 2013 or a 12-13... 2013-2012 rematch? Yeah, rematch. And I think... I don't know, man. I got to think about this one. I feel like San Francisco is going to get it done. So if we're going to come back and they're going to... Well, well... Remember who their coach is. And remember... And remember that... I don't know. Baltimore killed the 49ers in the regular season this year. I want to say both teams could win, but I can't say that. So I got to say the 49ers are going to contain Lamar Jackson. Wow. Which is hard doing. It's hard containing him. If they didn't do it in the game that they played against him this year? I don't know, man. It's a... The playoffs are a different time for these teams. If the Chiefs come out of nowhere, go back-to-back wins on the road... I think it's unfair to say the Chiefs come out of nowhere. We all thought that they could do that. I knew that they could do that, but I felt like the Ravens could actually beat the Chiefs. So did I. I thought it could be done, but it wasn't done. And Lamar Jackson, I feel like he's going to come back angry. He's going to come back and... Come back with a vengeance? He's going to be like... He's going to be mad off. But San Francisco is going to come back and they're going to win. And Shanahan... Shanahan. He's going to come back and win. I don't think so, dude. It comes to a point where I think he's honestly cursed. He was the offensive coordinator on the Falcons. Oh. A 25-point lead. Yeah. He was ahead in the Super Bowl. The first Chiefs 49ers Super Bowl lost. Lost. And he was ahead in this game, too. And he lost. But it was just 10-0. Yeah, but when it's 24-14 last year, it's not just, oh, it was only 10 points. It was, oh, the Eagles blew it. It's not... No. No. I'm just saying a 10-point lead... It's just 10 points. You can't expect a team to win if they have a 10-point lead. I don't know, man. If you play Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes, it's hard to keep that lead. But 28-3, you can't... Tom Brady hit it to Patrick Mahomes. I know. Tom Brady did it to Patrick Mahomes. So I feel like if you're Shanahan, you're playing Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes while you play Tom Brady. Shanahan... Oh, yeah, he did play against Brady and Mahomes. Yeah. I'm going to set up Jalen Hurtul's wrong team. But I feel... It's a tough sequence for the 49ers, but I feel like they're going to get over the hump. You know, just like Buffalo. I feel like... How can you say you think that the Buffalo Bills are going to get over the hump, and then they're not even in your AFC Championship? I feel like they're going to beat the Chiefs in the playoff to get there. The Chiefs are not going to lose before the Divisional. I don't know, man. You know, we'll see this year. Yeah, I guess we will. We'll be back. I'm your host, Shane McGee, here with... Davis Myers. This is the first afternoon broadcast this Tuesday. And you're listening to the College Football... Or, no. College Football Uncaged. Sports Uncaged. Sorry. It's the same College Football Countdown from last semester and this semester. Whoops. Let's just get a little rundown going of the topics we discussed for this last couple of minutes and our final takeaways from the game. Our final takeaways from the game. It was a great second half. The halftime show wasn't really the best, but I just liked the second half because it was back and forth. There was... It was just... It was more to watch. You know, so I was... I liked other responses from the kickers, I liked the responses from the quarterbacks. I just liked the game overall. You know? What about you? My final takeaways from the game are this. One. Kyle Shanahan is a Super Bowl choker. Two. Yeah. The Kansas City Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes when determined to win are nearly unstoppable. You can't stop them. Three. Three. Christian McCaffrey fumbled and never got his chance to really shine after that. Mm-mm. I just feel like San Francisco, they really, like, shot themselves in the foot. And they just... Oh, I don't know the rules. Yes, you do. You know, like, it was like you were just more prepared for it in the moment. Mm-mm. And the Chiefs, like, were prepared. Like, it's just... It goes into, like, the Twitch team is more, like, prepared for the game and stuff. I feel like the Chiefs were more prepared than the 49ers were. Four. Fourth and final takeaway. Did nothing. Jawan Jennings had more yards than Debo. He had more yards than Ayuk. Ayuk? He had more yards than Kittle. Their three best receiving threats did nothing. Did nothing. Jawan Jennings... Passing touchdown. Passing touchdown and a receiving touchdown. Every time somebody caught the ball for the 49ers, it was Jennings. And it's not that he's a bad player or anything, but he's not a superstar. He's not the guy you're paying millions and millions and millions of dollars to to make those plays. You know, he's a role player. He's there for roles and he... It would be cool if they won the game, but you have to utilize your stars instead of throwing to one guy who keeps getting open because of it being schemed that way. Yeah. But a great takeaway, Shane. But a thank you for all for listening to our show. I really enjoyed it today. Yeah, I had a great time. Thank you for listening.
