episode 2
And 3, 2, 1, Oh, I clapped, that's fine, we'll do another one, I don't know why I clapped, 3, 2, 1, mark, alright, so, welcome to the next episode on the Die Curious Podcast, let's go ahead and get over with the introductions, first, I am Pieces21, I'm gonna be the DM once again, and Dust is gonna be playing Beholder, oh shoot, oh my gosh, Beholder is gonna be playing Dust, Chocobo is gonna be playing Boron, Witness is gonna be playing Catholic, and Baby Blue is gonna be playing Wolf, alright, just to do a little recap of the last episode, in the last episode of Heroes in the Shadows, the players started their adventure by meeting someone who was connected to the hero world, and that person gave the player a coin and told them to go to the city of Visage, and find their hero contact, once the players made their way to the city of Visage, they were presented with a challenge, they had to find their contact, but they didn't know where or who this contact is, one by one, the players found their way to an inn called the Canal Inn, once there, the players talked to the bartender, who directed them to a room, the moment the players shut the door to the room, they were teleported to a dark room, that only had a fire in the middle of it, eventually, one of the players decided to try and leave the room, but was stopped when a changeling appeared before them, the changeling looked at the players for a moment, then told them all about the world of Heroes, and gave the players a choice, to die, or join the heroes, all of the players chose to live, and the changeling told the players that their next step was to board a ship called the Horned Monkey, and go to the Island of Dieting, and to do nothing on the journey, the players then boarded the ship, but before they could even set sail, they saw a group of workers going through the luggage of some of the passengers of the ship, the players remembered the words of the changeling, and chose to stop the workers without making a scene, after the players stopped the workers, they were shown to the room, and the ship set sail, heading towards the Island of Dieting, however, when the players woke up the next morning, they heard a child crying down the hall from the room, two of them went to investigate the crying, and found out that the child was crying because her mother went into the room with an earth genasi, and screamed for the child to run, hearing this, Caitlyn, the child, ran away from the room, and sat and cried in the hall until the players found her, upon learning this, the players chose to help Caitlyn, and went to the room that Caitlyn described, to see what had happened to Caitlyn's mother, upon their investigation, they found out that Caitlyn's mother was murdered in the room, and was a diplomat from the Kipon Empire, traveling to Dieting, sorry, upon investigating Caitlyn's mother's room, they found out that she was a diplomat from the Kipon Empire, traveling to Dieting, to form better relations between the two empires, after finding out that Caitlyn's mother was dead, they took Caitlyn back to the players room, and sent Dust alone to inform the captain that there was a murder on the ship, however, on the way to tell the captain what had happened, Dust was attacked and knocked out, after roughly 30 minutes, the rest of the party became worried about Dust, and decided that they would leave Caitlyn alone in the players room, and go look for Dust, they ended up finding Dust in a room that was booby trapped, but, once they freed Dust, and started making their way to tell the captain, the players heard a loud bang, and a child scream beneath them, the players automatically assumed that the scream came from the room where Caitlyn was in, and rushed back to find out what was happening, when the players arrived, they saw nothing in the room, except a bloody puddle on the floor, instantly, Wolves jumped into action, started tracking the scent of Caitlyn, led the party in the direction of the other room, where Caitlyn's mother had been killed, they looked in that room, and saw that Caitlyn's mother's body was not there anymore, all that was left was the puddle, Wolves tracked the scent once again, and ended up, the scent went off the side of the ship, and into the ocean below, the players instantly realized that Caitlyn and her mom had more than likely been thrown overboard, so, they rushed to the captain's office, once inside, they realized that the captain was also dead, the players instantly alerted some of the workers of the ship to what was happening, the workers automatically assumed that the players had a hand in what was happening on the ship, and kind of made a citizen's arrest, and held them in the captain's quarters, the players were guarded by three men, in the room, I lost my place, the players were guarded by three men, and, the players instantly wanted to escape, after being trapped in the room by three guards, Kethic started to fiddle around with some of the windows, trying to see if one was unlocked, to maybe try to escape once they got closer to hiding, however, he heard a voice in his head, telling him everything will be handled, then, Wolves heard a voice in her head, and told her to attack one of the guards, but, she managed to shift into her half wolf form, and resisted killing the guards, then, Dustin Boron lost control of their bodies, and killed two of the guards, Kethic seeing dust, and Boron murder two of the guards, killed the third, with a perfectly placed arrow through the eye, after all the guards were killed, another changeling appeared in front of the players, but, after speaking with him for a while, the changeling morphed effortlessly into the same earth genasi Kethic had seen before, Kethic once again drew his arrow, drew his bow, fired an arrow, hitting the earth, hitting the changeling, the changeling laughed, gave the players a little bit of a smile, then, disappeared, and now, we are moving on to this episode, so, players, what would you like to do? Mark, so, players, what would you like to do? You can roughly gauge that you're about 30 minutes away from arriving in Coba. Awesome. Yeah, I was pretty, pretty stuck in him. It opens outward, yes. Okay. I'll just say that you can do that, that seems pretty simple enough. Okay. Okay. Okay. You can make a, we'll say, a perception check to see if you can remember if you saw any life rafts or anything like that on board. Whoever, whoever would have noticed something like that can roll one. You did not notice anything specifically meant as a life raft, but you did see, like, a whaling boat that was attached to the side of the ship. So, it's kind of like a life raft, but not specifically meant for that, like, you can see, like, there's some harpoons and stuff in the boat. Okay. Well, it would be a rowboat, so you wouldn't have to sail, it would just, you would just be rowing it to shore. But you would have to be able to get to the boat. Yes, that would take either a dexterity or an athletics check. Yes, that would take either a dexterity or an athletics check. Yes, that would take either a dexterity or an athletics check. You can definitely make an investigation check for that. So, it's seconds after, or I'd say probably a couple minutes, because Kathy tied that rope to the door and then to the desk. Alright, and what does that do? Um, nothing, nothing seems to come up. So, you rummage around through the captain's office, trying to find a ledger, and you don't see anything that says a specific ledger of, like, people on board the ship. But you do find something that talks about, like, materials and stuff being transported on the ship. Alright, does anybody else want to do anything? Let's say this is going to be something that your character does quite often. So, we're going to roll a d20 to see if your body lets you come out of this shift. We'll say 10 and below, you stay shifted. 11 and above, you come out. 10 and below, you stay shifted. 11 and above, you come out. You are still half-wolf. You are still half-wolf. You are still half-wolf. You are still half-wolf. You are still half-wolf. You are still half-wolf. You are still half-wolf. Roll another perception check for me. That is right on the DC. The voice you heard wasn't exactly the voice of the changeling you saw, but it was close enough to where you can be pretty sure that it was the same voice. You are still half-wolf. You are still half-wolf. You are still half-wolf. You are still half-wolf. You are still half-wolf. You are still half-wolf. You are still half-wolf. You are still half-wolf. You are still half-wolf. You are still half-wolf. You are still half-wolf. You are still half-wolf. You are still half-wolf. You are still half-wolf. Alright, I need a... From whoever is climbing to the boat, I need a DC 15 Dexterity check with advantage. Okay. Boron makes it. 15 flat. 15 flat. Alright, both of you. You got a nat 20? Wolf doesn't even use the rope. Wolf is still in her half-wolf form. She's got these talons. She just stabs her nails into the side of the boat and climbs. She's not even like head... She's like spider crawling across this boat. She goes sideways. She's defying gravity. She starts at the back. Boron and Dust are using the rope and Wolf starts in the back. She waits a second because she's considering waiting for the boat to get to her. She's like, no, fuck that. Boron and Dust to get to the boat. So now all of you are in the boat. You can hear... There are four oars. There are two harpoons. And there are four different ropes that attach the whaling boat to the ship. Now there are... There are different... There are more workers walking around the deck now. And they will hear a splash if it's too loud. It's night so it's pretty decently dark so you would have advantage on any hiding actions. Or any stealth actions. There's a pulley system but it is on the deck, not in the boat. Make a... Go ahead. Oh, before you do that... He doesn't have to leave the boat. He can just peek his head and see the deck of the ship over. But if you peek your head over... I will need you to take a hiding action and tell me what your role is. And it will be opposed. Awesome. Perfect. You are hidden. You peek over. And you spot a couple different workers. They're raising sails, slowing the ship down a little bit. And they're just kind of walking around the deck. To where, maybe, if you're lucky enough, you might be able to slip onto the boat and lower... You might be able to sneak onto the ship and lower the boat into the water. Without being detected. It's about 5 feet away from the edge of the ship. As tall as the boat? I'd say it's a good 20 feet. From deck to water. Yes, roll another stealth check please. With disadvantage. Yes, he would. He would. He would. He would. He would. He would. He would. He would. He would. So, 6 seconds from now? Okay. It looked decently clear. But, I mean, if you're loud as fuck, you're going to be loud as fuck and they're going to see you. I want you to roll this stealth check with disadvantage, though. 15. Awesome. Let me roll... 15. You climb up onto the boat, like, looking around, making sure that nobody can see you, and you climb up and you get to the police system. Without being detected. Now, make a... Oh... I'm thinking dexterity or athletics to lower the boat into the water. You can choose whichever one. A flat, dex, or athletics roll? DC, 10 or above, the boat... No matter what, the boat's going to hit the water. DC... DC, 10? It is mostly quiet, but there is some splash. DC, 15, it's silent. So go ahead and make that flat roll for me. Okay. Awesome. You effortlessly lower this boat into the water. What do you do? Alright. Make another dex save. Er, dex throw, sorry. Like a dex check. A 7. On a 7, you start climbing out. The boat, the ship, is moving so swiftly through the water that the second the boat hits it, it slips out of the harness. You don't make it down the rope fast enough to get to the boat before it is out of reach. You hit the water. You can, with an athletics check. I need one person to roll a group athletics check, just flat. No adding or anything. Just a flat d20. Er, athletics. Yes. Whoever wants to roll it and add their modifier can. Just one d20. 22. You make it to Kethic, and Kethic is able to climb into the boat. You seamlessly slip away, undetected. The ship keeps going, and eventually will make it to the docks. You now, the party, now has two options. You can either go to Koba. You can either go to the main city of Koba, where the dock is and everything. Or you can row alongside Koba and go to the farming outskirts of the city. ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...
