Welcome to the Teacher's Assignment, and I'm your host Henry Hill. I started this podcast to give the everyday person a voice, a place where they could come and either talk about their issue, or listen to others that may have similar issues or concerns. Just a bit of history about myself. I'm an ex-school teacher that taught in the classroom for 20 years, and throughout the years I've had conversations with every class of people you can name, from fellow teachers to school board members. And one thing I've noticed is that whatever your status is in life, we all are imperfect human beings with family problems, financial problems, marital problems, and so on, and so on. Like for instance, the nursing crisis we just experienced in New York. I want everyone to know that last year a law was passed in New York State which required state staffing. What does that mean? It means the imposition of ratios from patients to nurses. And was it enforced? No! Was it enforced? No! Did they have to work overtime? Yes! Did they have to work on a number of patients? Yes! At the peril of patients? Yes! And at the peril of themselves? Yes! And so it's so important that the Department of Health get it right. That's right! And enforce the law! Woo!
