Talk: 20020705-Larry_Rosenberg-IMSRC-learning_to_live_in_real_time_part_iii-8737 Leandra Tejedor.json Start_time: 00:53:17 Display_question: Can you talk more about mindfulness, and relationship as a mirror, especially with reactivity? Keyword_search: relationship as mirror, mindfulness, reaction, transformed, breathing, civilized, clear mind, faith, attention, awareness, energy, ego Question_content: Questioner: (inaudible) Larry: Look, when mindfulness touches the reaction, doesn't mindfulness…mindfulness is a very subtle energy, but it's not dead. It has transformed. When you're mindful of the simple breathing, with some continuity, doesn't the quality of the breath change? You're not trying to change the breath. If you were, that isn't the instructions. Mindfulness in the translation of sati, it has many meanings, mindfulness. One of the connotations is, it's that which is always beneficial. That's part of what's so beautiful about awareness, attention, mind, whatever language that is, it touches the reaction, and so then you're no longer so enslaved to it. Break_line: Now many of us are being civilized, and well brought up. We have plenty of reactions that we don't talk about, or act on, or we'd be in big trouble. That's part of being civilized is… civilization, and its discontents. We're controlling a lot. That's not what I'm talking about. You're in touch with it, and in the feeling of it, it starts to lose its power, little by little, especially as it becomes a practice. And then it's replaced by, when that loses power. It's just what's always beneath the surface of it. Clear mind. So that it might be that you need to develop a little bit of faith, in the value of…In other words, mindfulness is your best friend. I don't know if you've seen that yet. No. My husband is, my wife is, my... yes, but mindfulness is you. In other words, the quality of who you can be… with you, the people you love, has so much to do, with the quality of your attention. Break_line: And finally, in this teaching, awareness is who you are. It's not any of these representations. I'm of this, I'm of that. It's not a picture, it's not any abstract verbal formulation. Those are just images. They fall away when you look at them. Fall away, fall. And that's what we're afraid of. Ego is terrified. When people hear, I guess it's going to take many, many years to get enlightened. Ego just sighs, relief. It's just tickled pink. Great. I can relax for a while. This person is putting it all… it's not about that. Do you see what I'm getting at? Good. End_time: 00:55:37
