Ms. Maxwell from Sundown Lane School gives tips for parents of reluctant readers. The school offers reading support and testing for students with reading difficulties. Reading to your child or listening to audio books together can help. Trying different genres of books, having people write letters to your child, and using closed captioning while watching TV can also encourage reading. Contact the school for more information. Hey, hey, Sundown Lane, it's Ms. Maxwell coming to you live to provide the latest and greatest information to keep all Hawks students strong and learning with joy. Are you the parent of a reluctant reader? Does your child suffer from the reading blues? We all understand the importance of keeping our kids reading. I can't improve as readers without practice. What can be done for our students who simply don't want to read? Have no fear, the faculty of Sundown Lane wants to offer some helpful tips to get those kiddos reading with enthusiasm. First, is your child reluctant to read because of reading difficulties? We have reading interventionists and academic testing available on campus to make sure that all students get the reading support they need. Reach out to your child's classroom teacher for more information. Also, try reading to your student or listening to audio books together. Listening to examples of fluent reading can be very helpful to students. Plus, reading together is an excellent way to bond with your kids. Next, try new genres of books. Your student may enjoy graphic novels, recipes, or magazines. Examples of reading are everywhere. Next, invite people to write letters to your child. Kids love to get mail and they will be motivated to read messages that are written just for them. Last, turn on closed captioning while your kids watch their favorite TV shows. They'll be reading without even realizing it. That's it for now, Hawk family. Can we help you in any way? Feel free to reach out to us at Sundown Lane at 806-677-2400. Goodbye for now!
