The person doesn't have a monitor stand because they think it would look bad. They suggest that to make your setup look better, you should remove the monitor stand and place it directly on the desk instead. I have no monitor stand. The reason is, is because it would look pretty crappy. So, if you want your setup to look cleaner, just take off your monitor stand and lay it on your desk.
