The host of the Hawks house podcast discusses the Seattle Seahawks' recent win against the New York Jets. They highlight the improved performance of the defense, particularly in stopping the run and preventing touchdowns. The defense also secured three takeaways. The host praises Daryl Taylor's performance, with two and a half sacks and a strip sack. They also mention the solid game by Geno Smith, the running performance of Alex Collins, and the contributions of DJ Dallas and the tight ends. However, they express disappointment with the lackluster performances of Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf. The host also laments the news of Jordan Brooks' ACL injury. They then discuss the playoff picture, with Seattle needing to win against the Los Angeles Rams and have the Detroit Lions beat the Green Bay Packers to secure a playoff spot. The host previews the upcoming game against the Rams, highlighting the absence of key players for the Rams but noting the talent of Bobby Wagner and Jalen Ramsey. Welcome back to the Hawks house podcast hosted by me a diehard fan in this episode I plan on giving my reaction of how week 17 went down with a big win over the New York Jets Then covering where the Seahawks are and the NFC playoff race and what they need to happen to make the playoffs Along with what to expect this week against the Los Angeles Rams First off in week 17 the Seahawks beat the Jets 23 to 6 the defense as we all know has struggled a lot this year with stopping the run and They only gave up 75 yards on the grounds in the entire game. This was a great sign Also to requel in and the other corners that were matched up against Garrett Wilson Held them to only three catches for 18 yards Garrett Wilson has been one of the best offensive rookies this entire year And he's been great. So it's a good sign that we were able to hold him The defense didn't give up a single touchdown the whole game as the Jets only scored six points which came off two field goals They also got three takeaways Which was an interception by quandary digs on the Jets first drive Of the game also an interception by Michael Jackson, which was his first NFL career interception pretty cool happy for him and a fumble on the last play of the first half where Daryl Taylor had a strip sack of Mike white and Uchida new zoo Got the ball Speaking of Daryl Taylor. He was absolutely awesome in this game He had a total of two and a half sacks and like I already said he had a strip sack and in the last four games He's looked absolutely amazing Which is great because last year before he went down with that pretty pretty bad injury He looked like he was really good. He looked like we might have been able to have Actual D end of the future and as we all know for most of this year, it hasn't really looked like that He's been a little bit disappointing. But like I said these last four games He's been an absolute monster and we need this and we need him to keep this up He needs to be able to consistently provide this much pressure on the quarterback Because that's where we have a major hole on our defense And we might be able to actually trust him if he's able to be this consistent We Had a great bounce back game from Gino on the offensive side of the ball He had a one hundred and three point one passer rating and he had two passing touchdowns to zero Intersections to me the zero interceptions is just amazing. He's been a little bit. I'm not gonna say the word careless But in the last few weeks He's made a few decisions With the ball where it was just a little bit concerning not like what Gino is doing earlier in the year and this game He played great Also canine had a great game with a hundred and thirty three rushing yards And the big the big total is that he had five point eight yards per attempt Which is great because he had 22 rushing attempts, which is a decent amount of rushing attempts Especially for someone who's coming off coming off an injury But he's still almost average six yards per attempt and as we all know we had that pretty awesome Like 50 60 yard run in the first play of scrimmage That he almost took to the house. Also DJ Dallas DJ Dallas had a pretty nice game today I remember this one play where Gino was pressured He was he was all over the place and he just quickly shoveled out a pass to DJ Maybe only like two yards from the line of scrimmage But then DJ took that and ran about 40 yards all the way out to like the 10 yard line DJ has had a pretty good year in my opinion And we've especially needed it ever since Rashad penny went down because he became the true number two back but we also need DJ to continue with his Great production on the field both in the passing game and the rushing game because like I said Kenneth is still laboring He's very clearly still has some type of injury And so if we can give him any bit of rest throughout the game and by using DJ, then it'll just be to our benefit Also, the tight ends played great today Parkinson and Mabry had two touchdowns today It was actually Tyler Mabry's first ever career catch and first ever career touchdown. So awesome for him No a fan also had two catches for 40 yards the tight ends Have played amazing this year. I love the idea of tight end by committee Colby Parkinson has had I'm not gonna say a breakout year because he hasn't had that good of a year But he's really shown that it was a useful pick Will Disley before going out with his year or season-ending injury He was he was playing pretty good too. And obviously no a fan we got him from the trade He was a big piece from the Broncos He's been really awesome this year, too Unfortunately a couple of the negatives from this game We did not get a good game from either Tyler or DK at all I mean DK more than Tyler DK who played most of if not the whole game only had one catch for three yards Which is not that good. I know sauce was covering him for most of the game and don't get me wrong Sauce is a great cornerback, but DK should be able to use not only his experience But his body against sauce and he should be able to have at least a few more catches and maybe even a touchdown also The worst news from this game is Jordan Brooks tore his ACL. I'm a huge Jordan Brooks fan I know sometimes he's not great in coverage. But to me, he's the leader of our defense he's who just Communicates everything and gets everybody on the same page and he's going to not only be out for the rest of this year obviously, he's he's only only have one more week in the playoffs, but also a lot of next year probably and I just I'm really devastated with that injury. I love Jordan Brooks Now that we've covered most of the Jets game. I want to head to the playoff picture It is a three-man race in the NFC for the last spot the seventh seed the last wild card Between the Green Bay Packers the Detroit Lions and the Seattle Seahawks It's pretty simple for most teams for Seattle They need to beat the Los Angeles Rams and they need the Lions to beat the Packers on Sunday night football For the Packers, all they need to do is win. They just need to beat the Lions It doesn't matter whether Seattle wins or not and they're in the playoffs and for Detroit They need Seattle to lose To the Los Angeles Rams and they need to beat the Packers on Sunday night football. I Do think it is a little messed up for the NFL to schedule the Packers game on a Sunday night but it is what it is and There is another much more complicated way that Seattle that Seattle can get into the playoffs But involves like multiple ties in week 18, so I'm not even really gonna bother explaining it And then finally I want to look ahead at the Rams game The Rams are coming to town in week 18 to face Seattle in Seattle and the regular season finale The Rams are going to be without Matthew Stafford Allen Robinson and Cooper Cup and they are most likely going to be without Aaron Donald This obviously gives us the ultimate major advantage, but they still have some really good talent Especially on the defensive side of the ball with Bobby Wagner and Jalen Ramsey And we all know the whole thing about Bobby Wagner Seattle released him without even really telling him even though he spent his entire career there and gave his life to the city of Seattle and the Seahawks on the field and he really didn't take too kindly to it and When he was asked about it in a press conference this week Bobby talked about how he would love to play spoiler against Seattle And so we all know Bobby's coming to play and when Bobby comes to play It's always dangerous and for me the main things to look for is The first major one is how well Cody Barton and especially a guy like Tanner Muse Who's barely ever played on the defense side of the ball for most of his career? He's just been a special teams guy How those two are going to be able to fill the hole that Jordan the Jordan Brooks injury causes because like I said Jordan is the leader of the defense Tanner looks pretty good in the second half of The of the Jets game when Jordan went down and he subbed in but also It just were kind of demoralized at that point They hadn't scored in almost like two whole quarters and our defense was really stopping them on all sides Will the defense be able to put together another game like they did last week where they stopped the run and got pressure on the QB that's the two most important things the two things that this defense has struggled with the most This entire season other than that Four game stretch where we won all four games earlier in the year They've barely been able to stop the run against any team and they've gotten almost zero pressure on the quarterback Will our cornerbacks be able to contain these Rams wide receivers? Because again with both Allen Robinson and Cooper Cup being out The wide receiver core of the Rams is not that great on paper You know guys like Van Jefferson are really their best guys and personally I think Tariq woolen and Kobe Bryant and Michael Jackson have have the leg up on these guys I think they're a bit better. I think they should be able to shut down the passing game at least a little bit For me a couple big questionables into this game are Ryan Neal and Tyler Lockett Will they both be able to play because we know both of them have such a huge impact on this team Ryan Neal has been great subbing in for Jamal Adams this entire year And I mean we need a guy like him to be able to take out their tight end Tyler Higbee And on offense Tyler Lockett really helps out DK Metcalf will be will he be able to play and will he be? 100% both players as of right now are listed as questionable and both will probably be game time decisions How much of an impact will DK Metcalf have Obviously he had basically no impact in the Jets game Like I said, you only have one catch for three yards But he is going up against Jalen Ramsey and normally that doesn't sound like a great thing But we all know DK Metcalf usually plays his best when he goes up against Jalen Ramsey They have had some amazing battles over the years and DK's won a lot of them Will we be able to have another good running game with good blocking from the O-line The O-line had great blocking in the Jets game and they have struggled a few games before then Will Gino not only be able to put together another great game but put together another no turnover game When you don't turn over the ball, especially at Lumen Field, it goes such a long way It helps out winning so much and our tight ends are going to have to make another big impact in this game Especially Tyler Mabry who I said is now filling in for Will Disley who's out the rest of the year our Titans have been great this year, and they need to keep it up and Finally for me the biggest concern is how we're going to look against Baker Mayfield In our first game against the Rams a few weeks ago. John Wolford was their starting QB They hadn't picked up Baker Mayfield yet since then Obviously they have picked up Baker who has had some bad games, but he's also had some really good moments Baker and the Rams just a couple weeks ago put up 51 points on a good and sometimes great Broncos defense I will say Russell Wilson did so throw some interceptions that game but 51 points is still 51 points And also we can't forget about his first game with the Rams where he led a last-second drive All the way down the field and beat the Raiders when he had only known the playbook and the system for like four days He's had some flashes of the old Baker And I'm just a little bit concerned that our defense is going to give up a few plays early in the game And then he has all the confidence and he has all the momentum So my main question is will our defense be able to stop him from having a big game and having a huge impact on the team I Do think Seattle is going to beat the Rams on Sunday, and if they do Sunday night I am going to be the biggest Lions fan in the entire world Thank you for listening Go Hawks and also go Lions
