A short cozy discussion about the balance of power between the states and the federal government.
The host discusses the conflicting laws between states and the federal government. They argue that marijuana use and abortion should be left up to the states, allowing people to move to states that align with their beliefs. However, they believe gun ownership should be regulated by the federal government to maintain the right to bear arms. They suggest that environmental policy should be determined by states, with limited federal involvement, while education policy should also be left to states. Finally, they argue that healthcare should be overseen by the federal government to ensure equality and care for all citizens. The host concludes by thanking listeners and encouraging support for the podcast. Good evening, listeners, it's your host, Kayden Elder, and welcome to the Post Office Podcast and another thrilling episode about our nation's government. This evening, we'll be addressing the conflicting laws between the states and the federal government. Where do we draw the line when it comes to the power the federal government has? Should controversial laws like marijuana usage, guns, abortion, education policy, environmental and healthcare be left up to the states or the federal government? To begin with the lighter subject, marijuana use has been a debate for many years. From my point of view, the right to use marijuana should be left up to the states. Something I believe in strongly is that one of the beautiful things about America is the ability of its citizens to move within the country to find the perfect place for them to live. If we leave many lifestyle laws up to the states, each state will have its own culture and preferred lifestyle. This means people can live with people like them, and it also follows a line from the preamble. They are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Similarly to the debate with marijuana, the argument over abortion should also be left up to the states. People who disagree with abortion should be able to move to a state that made abortion illegal. In contrast, if someone believes abortion should be legal, they can move to a state that aligns with their beliefs. I personally don't think that the right to pursue happiness should be tampered with regardless of the subject. In contrast to previous subjects, gun ownership should be left up to the federal government. The Second Amendment states, a well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Because this right is in the Constitution, I do not think states should be allowed to change it. I believe that the right to bear arms is the right that keeps the government in check. Taking away people's right to own a gun will limit the people's ability to stand up to the government if they do something without the people in mind. It is important to keep this right throughout all of America because it helps keep the government humble. Environmental policy should be left up to the states, with limited tampering from the federal government. Each state has its own circumstance. If environmental policy was left up to the federal government, many aspects of that state won't be accounted for. It is better for environmental policy to be left up to the states so that there can be a narrow focus regarding the circumstances of that state. However, I do think that the federal government should have a small hand in the efforts to keep a clean and healthy environment. In comparison, education policy should be left up to the states. Parents should be able to move their children to the state that supports their educational beliefs. As stated previously, each state has its own culture, and it is important to let the citizens have the freedom to live the way they want to. Finally, healthcare should be left up to the federal government. Healthcare can be crucial to many individual lives, and it is so easy for many people to be swept down the drain and not taken care of. In order to ensure a healthy and happy America, healthcare should be left up to the federal government. The seriousness of the health of America's citizens should be taken care of by the federal government to ensure equality and make sure everyone is accounted for. This concludes the topics I would like to share with you tonight. Thank you for tuning in to this week's episode, Controversial Laws.
