Nothing to say, yet
In today's Daily Devotion, we read from John chapter 1, verses 1-3, which remind us that Jesus Christ was involved in the creation event. Being fully human means having a good relationship with God and with others. When we sin, we are not living up to our full human potential. To share God's good news, we should see others as Jesus did and treat them with love and compassion. Today's worship option includes a prayer hymn by Clara Scott, asking for guidance and the ability to share the truth with love. Welcome to Christ Church's Daily Devotion for October 8, 2023. Today we will be reading from John chapter 1, verses 1 through 3. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made. Without Him nothing was made that has been made. Yesterday we looked at the first creation story and were reminded that God is the creator of us all and seeks a restored relationship with every person. These opening verses of the Gospel according to John reminded us that Jesus Christ was a participant in the creation event. This Word of God who became human revealed to us what it looks like to be fully human and live as God first created us to live. When we sin, on whatever level, we sometimes say, I'm only human, as if to be human is to mess up somehow. The biblical understanding is that when we sin, we are somehow being sub-human. To be fully human is to be in a good relationship with God and with people as much as we can do on our part. As we seek to share God's good news with other people, it is important to see them in this way as well. It is important to look at them through the eyes of Jesus, to note how He treated people, especially the least, the last, the lost, and the lonely. To see them as He saw them will make a big difference in how we relate to them and offer His good news to them. Today's Personal Worship Option I can't share this devotional without being reminded of the words of an old hymn that I have mentioned before. It is a prayer hymn written by Clara Scott. May these two verses be your prayer today. Open my eyes that I may see glimpses of truth thou hast for me. Place in my hands the wonderful key that shall unclasp and set me free. Open my mouth and let me bear gladly the warm truth everywhere. Open my heart and let me prepare love with thy children thus to share. Thank you.
