The Daily Devotion for November 18th, 2023 focuses on the importance of being thankful. The writer mentions gratitude three times in chapter 3 of Colossians, and the focus verse for today emphasizes the need to devote oneself to prayer while being watchful and thankful. The writer encourages readers to assess their level of gratitude on a Thanksgiving scale and suggests offering prayers focused on gratitude throughout the day. Welcome to Christ Church's Daily Devotion for November 18th, 2023. Today we will be reading from Colossians chapter 4, verse 2. Devote yourself to prayer, being watchful and thankful. There is much good guidance in this letter for how to live as a follower of Jesus Christ, especially in chapter 3. It is interesting to note that three times within three verses of that chapter, the writer mentions being thankful or having gratitude. Verse 15 ends with, and be thankful. Verse 16 ends with, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And verse 17 ends with, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Then, ten verses later, come our focus verse for today. Devote yourself to prayer, being watchful and thankful. That one verse is good guidance for daily living by itself. Once again, being thankful is included. It is obvious that was a subject that was primary in the mind of this writer. Tomorrow is our worship services. I will invite you to assess where you are on a Thanksgiving scale from 1 to 10. Go ahead and be thinking about that and praying about that until then. As you go about your daily life, relating to God and to other people, how much of your interactions are filled with gratitude? What might you do to increase that? Today's personal worship option. On most days, most of us thank God for our food. What else do you thank God for and how often do you do so? Offer a prayer right now that is focused on gratitude.
