Nothing to say, yet
David, a young man, offers to fight the Philistine Goliath. Saul doubts David's ability, but David explains that he has previously killed a lion and a bear while protecting his father's sheep. He believes that God, who had rescued him before, will also rescue him from Goliath. David's focus is on God's power, not the size of the enemy. The Israelites forgot to trust God in this battle. We need a big view of God, especially when facing big problems. Trust Him and reflect on your journey with Him. Praise Him for victories, trust Him with today's troubles, and take action according to His guidance. Welcome to Christchurch's Daily Devotion for June 14th, 2024. Today we will be reading from 1 Samuel chapter 17 verses 32 through 37. David said to Saul, Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine. Your servant will go and fight him. Saul replied, You are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him. You are only a young man, and he has been a warrior from his youth. But David said to Saul, Your servant has been keeping his father's sheep. When a lion or a bear came and carried off a sheep from the flock, I went after it, struck it, and rescued the sheep from its mouth. When it turned on me, I seized it by its hair, struck it, and killed it. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear. This uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God. The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine. David knew that the task of defeating Goliath was big, but he also knew from experience that God was bigger. The Israelites forgot who God was. The God who had brought them into the Promised Land and provided for them, they had seen God fight for them in many previous battles, but they neglected to trust Him in this one. David's focus was not on the size of the enemy, but on God. In trusting God, our vision may need to be enlarged. God's size doesn't change, but our perception of Him does. As we draw nearer, He seems larger. Isn't that what we need? A big view of God? Don't we have the big problems, big worries, big questions? Of course we do. So we need a big view of God. What battle are you facing today? Even if it's bigger than you can handle, it's not bigger than God can handle. Trust Him. Your personal worship option today? Reflect on your journey with God. Praise Him for the victories. Draw near to Him and embrace His majesty. Trust Him with today's troubles and look for the action He wants you to take.
