Pharaoh appoints Joseph as his second-in-command in Egypt after Joseph interprets Pharaoh's dreams. Joseph had faced many storms in his life, being sold into slavery and falsely accused, but God brought him out and gave him the ability to interpret dreams. Joseph uses his position to prepare for a coming famine, saving many lives. He forgives his brothers and acknowledges that God had a greater purpose for his difficulties. In times of storms, trust that God is with you and can use you to serve others. Welcome to Christ Church's Daily Devotion for January 10th, 2024. Today, we will be reading from Genesis chapter 41, verses 39 through 43. Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you. You shall be in charge of my palace, and all my people are to submit to your orders. Only with respect to the throne will I be greater than you. So Pharaoh said to Joseph, I hereby put you in charge of the whole land of Egypt. Then Pharaoh took his signet ring from his finger and put it on Joseph's finger. He dressed him in robes of fine linen and put a gold chain around his neck. He had him ride in a chariot as his second-in-command. And people shouted before him, Make way! Thus, he put him in charge of the whole land of Egypt. Our scriptures this week are helping us to see how God prepares us for the difficult times or storms that will inevitably come in life. The beautiful story of God's work in and through Joseph's life in 13 chapters long from Genesis 37 to 50. When you have time, I encourage you to read all 13 chapters. Leading up to today's scripture, Joseph had dealt with heavy storms in his life. Joseph had brothers who were jealous of him and had sold him into slavery. Then he was a greatly trusted slave of Potiphar who was one of Pharaoh's officials. Then Joseph was falsely accused by Potiphar's wife and was imprisoned. But God brought him out of those storms with a whole new life. God had given Joseph the gift of interpreting dreams. Once, Joseph had interpreted the chief cupbearer's dream. Then Pharaoh had some troubling dreams and no one could help him interpret his dreams. The chief cupbearer told Pharaoh about Joseph. So, Pharaoh sent for Joseph who was at that time in the dungeon. Verse 14 God gave Joseph the gift of interpreting Pharaoh's dreams. Joseph's interpretation helped Pharaoh to prepare for the seven years of famine across the land. This famine would not only affect Egypt but also the surrounding lands. Yes, God brought Joseph out of these storms with a whole new life but not only for his sake but to be of service in saving the people of Egypt and the surrounding lands. Joseph led the people to store up grains for seven years so that there would be enough for the people during the seven years of famine. Joseph continually gave credit to God and Joseph forgave his brothers. Today's personal worship option In Genesis chapter 50 verse 20 Joseph is speaking to his brothers and says You intended to harm me but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done the saving of many lives so then don't be afraid I will provide for you and your children in the storms of life trust that God is with you to accomplish even greater services for others
