Jesus calls two fishermen, Peter and Andrew, to follow him and become fishers of people. They immediately leave their nets and follow Jesus. Jesus focuses on connecting with people and sharing God's good news. He invites us to do the same. We may not have all the details, but we can respond in faith. Through prayer, we can choose to follow Jesus and listen for his voice. Welcome to Christ Church's Daily Devotion for December 22nd, 2023. Today we will be reading from Matthew chapter 4, verse 18 through 20. As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. Come, follow me, Jesus said, and I will send you out to fish for people. At once they left their nets and followed him. Jesus invites some fishermen into a whole new focus on fishing. Whereas rabbis focused mostly on lessons of the law, Jesus would focus on connecting with people in order to share God's good news with them. Notice that Jesus gives the invitation to follow him, and Peter and Andrew drop everything to follow Jesus. The two men responded in faith rather than getting caught in the fear of the unknown. At times we want all the details before we can say yes. Yet, God rarely provides those ahead of time. Jesus gave his disciples the most rewarding job. He taught them to reach out to people with the good news of God. God also offers us that same opportunity. How will you respond? Today's personal worship option. Prayer for today.
