Hello and welcome to the second episode of Chai with a Tongue, a part of the five-episode series about the Middle East, its culture, and its folklore. In this episode, we'll be discussing the folklore genre and how it can be tied to the Middle Eastern culture. Some folklore genre that is very relatable to the Middle East is fairy tales and folktales. Fairy tales can be seen in some modern-day Middle Eastern stories like Aladdin, which is originally called Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp. And fairy tales is a perfect example since Aladdin has supernatural creatures like the genie, which is also tied to its culture since the religion Islam is mainly based on the Middle Eastern culture, and Islam holds some supernatural creatures, which are called jinns. And the folktale can give very big and good life lessons, like in one story we will be reciting, which is called Alibaba and the Forty Thieves.
