And today we're talking about horror movies and Halloween. Hi Ellie. Hi Emma. I miss you. I miss you too, it's been so long since we did this. I know, it's been like two weeks. But we're doing this, we're filming this the day before it's supposed to go up, so we can get it out because we're a couple weeks behind. And Emma's going to be a super speedy editor. I'm going to be super duper speedy in editing because it's cool because when I edit, I just kind of listen to it. People are always like, do you listen to the podcast? And I'm like, no, because when I edit it, I just kind of listen to it over and over again. So, I don't know if I like hearing my voice that much. I know, me neither. It's like weird listening to it. I don't like it. I don't like watching videos of myself, but hearing just my voice, I'm like, is that me? I don't know. I don't sound like who I think I sound like. Yeah, me too. I sound very different. How has your week been? Very tiring. Very, very tiring. We had our homecoming, and then we had Halloween, and then just school. I've had so many test sequences. It's been very tiring. I'm making up all my things I missed over the next week and a half, and I'm stressing, but you know what? It's okay. Halloween and homecoming, it was worth it. I think I definitely put things off for Halloween and homecoming, but it was worth it. It was fun. So, Halloween. I hung out with you for Halloween, so I can't be like, what did you do for Halloween? Oh, I did leave early, and I know they watched a movie. I know Molly and Mary, they watched a movie. Yes, we did. In the tall grass. In the tall grass? Is that a horror movie? Yeah, it's a horror movie. Sorry, in the tall grass. It's a horror movie. But it's one of those horror movies that tries so hard to be scary, and it's really funny. Okay, for me, that was some of my favorites, because I'm a horror girl. I love thriller, psych thriller. I love the really messed up stuff. Ellie's like, no, I just got chills, but not from that. From how cold it is outside. I'm like a horror movie girl, but I sometimes love the comedy horror, where it's so stupidly scary. Not scary, but trying to be. My taste in horror is very odd. It's kind of very specific, I would say. I'm not a horror girl. That would probably be my last choice in a movie, if I ever have to choose a genre. But my thing is, I like more murder, serial killer. Not serial killer, but those guys who just go around killing people. I like that. But what I don't like is paranormal. I hate paranormal. I live for devil. I live for the exorcisms. I live for that stuff. I think it's so... I love it. No, that possessed doll, you'll not catch me on. I like it when it's a guy, and he's just killing people. That is better to me. Again, Ellie can do that kind of thing. I can understand that he's just like, that is just bad. When it gets to ghosts and weird things, and they can just pop out of nowhere, and just like, ugh. So like, you don't like The Conjuring. I never watched The Conjuring, and I never ever will. It's such a good movie. It's not that scary, and I hate stuff, but then at the end it's like scary music, and it's like, this is a true story. I think that's so interesting. I just love that it's a true story. Not that it's a true story, but the fact that... I don't know if I believe it. Obviously it's a true story, but is it actually a true story? But, I think it's so cool, and I love Annabelle, and I love this movie, and The Nun. The new Nun was so scary and so good, and I loved it, but I think it's so creepy. I like movies that elicit really strong emotions. Really sad movies, really scary movies. I like the really heightened movies, and The Conjuring type movies are always the most scary. The Conjuring had a part where Annabelle came up in it, and I was like, uh uh. I can't do this. No, but you're like the opposite. I hate, hate really sad movies. I hate them. I hate... Again, my thing is with horror movies, I don't hate them. I just hate certain types of them. What's your favorite horror movie? I'm glad you asked, because my favorite horror movie, which is also one of my favorite universes, I guess, is Scream. I love, love, love, love, love Scream. Actually, with a burning passion. It's really weird though, because I've watched the first one, and then I've watched the fourth, fifth, and sixth, so I just haven't watched the second or third. Is that the one with Janet Ward? Yeah, she's in the fifth and sixth one. Okay. But that Scream movie franchise is one of my favorite things ever. Scream is my peak taste in horror movies. Just murder, nothing paranormal, it's all good. I'm the opposite. I do enjoy Scream and Halloween. I won't say no, I'm not watching them, but I love Scary. I feel like a quiet place is like meaning in the middle. Well, no, it's kind of... It's like a dystopian horror. It's like dystopian, but there's monsters. Can you guys give me the monsters? It looks like the Demogorgon from Stranger Things. We watched it in film class, and my teacher, she screams like a scary, so it popped up and she goes, ahh! It made it a funny movie. Yeah, that's funny. There's another one coming out. I've seen the first two. We watched both of them back-to-back in class, and I love them. I think they're so cool, and mysterious, and eerie, and weird. Yeah. But, I don't know. I love a quiet place. I guess like that is Bird Box. I love Bird Box. See, that's like different to me, because that's like not, that's like in the middle. It's not like the devil, and like, it's not like that kind of thing, but it's not like humans killing each other. Yeah, and it's also not, again, my thing with like paranormal and stuff like that is like, it takes place in a world that is like our own. Like, it's like, oh, this doll that you have could just like come alive and kill you, but with a quiet place, it's like, oh, this takes place in the future when these monsters that probably could never even exist, like, come in and do this. And like Bird Box, it's like, that's crazy. It's like, when it's more out of reach like that, I can handle it better, but when it's like, oh, this is a true story, like, have fun. Just like rest with this. I'm like, oh, you know, I, I like, I like how, I think that's why I like the paranormal, it's because it's like, could happen, it could happen, like, who knows? Yeah. But like, it's just, I love like, I like, I like the world building in those movies. I feel like that, like, they're just, because it's kind of like already preset in the fact that like, it could happen, so it makes it scarier. And again, I love like scary movies, but I'm trying to think, like, not to the point, okay, do you remember the trend on TikTok? Mm-hmm. You guys might remember this too. Megan is missing. Yes! I've been talking about this with a girl in my class today. She was like, that's the scariest thing they've ever seen. It's terrifying. And that's why, because like the paranormal thing is like, yeah, maybe in some, maybe, maybe it's all real, maybe there is like the devil, maybe it's like, you know, whatever. But at the same time, it's like, it's not something that happens every day and that like, you know, you hear about, you're not like, oh my God, someone got killed by, you know, a doll. A spirit. It's not something that happens, but with like, Megan is missing, I don't know if you guys watched it, I watched it with my mom and my friends, and I was in eighth grade. And I remember I like, kidnapped her under a blanket the entire time. Yeah. And like, I'm usually pretty good with scary movies, but it's just like, it's scary in the fact, not that there's like, a bunch of bad things happening, it's the fact that it's like, it deals with, I don't like the movies that have to deal with like kidnapping and like raping and that kind of stuff. I hate those. Those can be like, really jarring. Yeah. Those are the ones, like for me, when I see the paranormal movies, I can go to sleep after, I'm good. But watching those, I'm like, no, yeah. Check my door six times, making sure it's locked. And I'm like, already a very, very paranoid person. Like, I just exist in a state of paranoia. Me too. And like, that just heightens it to extreme, extreme levels. I just, I hate those. It's terrifying. Like, it's genuinely, I don't know what I can say that's like, not, I can't censor, but it's just. It's like, I have never watched it, but it's almost like, I just want to watch it because I just know it's like, so crazy. It's one of those movies that I would never watch again. Yeah. But watching it gives you insight on like, how crappy the world is. Yeah. And how like, this, because like, a lot of it, I don't know if that story is based off. It starts with like, a girl talking to somebody online. Yeah. That's how it starts. And it's very like, a basic starting. And then it unravels and it's like, dark and like, disgusting and ugh. I don't, I won't like, like on TikTok, I see there's, do you know the one girl who's in all of the kidnapping movies? Yes. Her. She's actually in Georgia. Is she actually in Georgia? Yeah. Oh. She's in all of the kidnapping movies. And I would never sit down and watch those movies because I would freak out, but I watched the clips on TikTok. And I'm like, oh, what happened to her? I'm like, I'm just curious. But I have a question. So, how are you like, with gore? I'm not, you would think I'd be good. Okay, I'm scared of blood. Like, I have a fear, like, I have a fear of doctors. I cry when I go to the doctor. Like, I'm terrified of doctors. I'm terrified of like, getting like, the blood and organs. I'm not, I'm not, I'm not into that. But I can watch like, Grey's Anatomy. And like, but what, like, I don't watch Grey's Anatomy for any of the medical part. I watch it for the drama. So, I like, skip over like, when they're like, when they're operating, if it's like, I have to see anything. I'm like, oh, closing my eyes. I cannot do gore. I don't. Like, very little. I can do a little bit. But like, there's this one movie called The Basement, which I actually. I watched it. I watched it in Molly's sister's. I watched it at your house. In her basement. Yeah, I watched it. Me too. Oh my God, I watched it with your sister. I, because there's a part where like, his head. Yeah. His head gets cut off. They blow Torch's head off. And it falls on the ground. And then it starts rolling. And I was like, oh, hell no. I cannot do that. And it's also kidnapping. So, it's everything you don't want. But I did watch this one movie. That wasn't gore, but it was called The Split. Again, I watched it in film class. And it has, um, Anteater Joy. Oh, I know. They're all five feet apart. What's the name? I don't know. But, the guy from X-Men. Yeah, the guy from X-Men. I love how I don't know these people. I know these people's names. Like, I can look. I think I know, but they're somewhere back in my brain. But, I watched that movie. And basically, have you seen the movie, Split? No, but I know a lot about it. Okay. Basically, like, quick summary. This guy has, like, multiple personality disorders. And, like, is living in a system of, like, I think 20-something people. And one of them is, like, the monster. And he lives, spoiler alert, he lives underneath a zoo. And so, I guess it's, like, him being, like, a lion? I don't know. That's what my friend said. And I was like, what? But, apparently, that's what it is. And he kidnaps these three girls. And it's just, like, weird. Like, one of his alters, or whatever they're called, is, like, into teenage girls. And he's a grown adult. And then one of his alters is, like, an eight-year-old boy. And, like, trying to help him escape. And it's, like, it's so weird. But that's a more psychological thriller. But I also include that in, like, horror, scary movies. Yeah. Mine? Okay. Well, another thing we are opposite on is I would call myself, like, really good with gore. And I don't know. Well, just open it. Just open it. She wants to open her pack. Okay. That's what I was saying. But, yeah. I'm, like, really good with, like, I don't want to be, like, I'm really good with gore. But, like, I am. You watched The 100, which I can't watch. Yeah. I saw it and was, like, uh-uh. Oh, my God. You should love that show. I know. I love The 100. And I think my thing, like I said, I don't really watch a lot of horror movies. So, I feel like the gore in horror movies is kind of different. But, like, I don't know if it's just the movies and shows that I grew up watching that I liked are, like, very action, gore-heavy. Like, I love Gladiator and The 100. And I can't even... Like, Game of Thrones, all incredibly gory. And I feel like that also plays into the part of why I like more... What are those called? Not serial killers, but it's, like... I know there's a genre of horror movies. Slasher. Slasher. Slasher. I think that's why I like slasher films more is because I can handle the gore. I can handle guts spilling out, blood, knives. Like, that's fine with me. And then when it gets into what you're talking about, I don't like that. Did you ever read... This is so off-topic. The book Where the Red Fern Grows, or whatever they're called in middle school. It's so sad. This is not horror, but it just reminds me because it's gory. It's a book. Yeah. Like, it just has to do with, like, organs spilling out. And I remember I was, like... It's, like, a really sad book. And there's just one part where, like, some of the organs come out. And I was, like... And that's when I started being, like, uh-uh. I don't do impressions. Like... I can't, like... Like, there's an episode of Grey's Anatomy. And I go back... The only gore I watch is Grey's Anatomy. But, like, he gets out of the car and his, like, organs spill out. And I was, like... Oh, my God. What's going on? I can't. No. But I'm not good at that. Oh, my gosh. That's so funny. There was a loud noise. That was scary. Well, okay. I feel like that's kind of interesting, though. Because that kind of, like, explains our different tastes. We have very... I think through doing this podcast, I've realized we have, like... We have similar, like, franchises we like. But we have very different tastes in, like, what we would, like, choose to watch on, like, a day-to-day basis. Yeah, I've noticed that, too. Because I'm not a gore person. I'm not... I like slasher films. Like, I don't mind them. Like, I think they're fun to watch. Like, Halloween, I'll watch them. It's nice. Like, it's, like, best of peace. But if I'm choosing to, like, watch a horror... If, like, my friend comes over, I think it's so cool. Like, when you watch horror movies with your friend, and it's, like, 12 o'clock, and it's dark, and you're, like, scared out of your mind. I think it's kind of fun. No, I think... I don't think I've ever watched a horror movie alone. I feel like it's... Again, because I just don't enjoy them, I think it's something for me that I have to watch with another person. Yeah. I don't watch a lot of horror movies alone. Like, when I'm alone, I don't, like, watch... I don't watch movies by myself a lot. Yeah, me neither. I usually just have a show on in the background when I'm, like, doing things. Exactly. But there's one movie I watched recently, The Silence. It's an older movie, but I saw it on Netflix, and I was like, oh, maybe I should watch that. It's basically the same plot as A Quiet Place, except it has, like, these, like, demon bird things that come out, and, like, if they hear you, they're going to, like, gnaw you and eat you, and num-num-num. Num-num-num. But... Is there something outside the window? No. No. They're, like, looking out the window. Anyways, no, I... I don't know. But are you... Okay, this is one movie that I know you don't like, but I feel like we need to talk about. I think you know what it is. Okay, I love Tim Burton. It isn't horror. Like, that whole genre, like, A Nightmare Before Christmas, Coraline, which is one of my favorite movies. I love Coraline. Like, that... I could do... I could talk for an hour about, like, how much I love Coraline. Coraline is, I think, the best movie that has ever been made. It is amazing. Ellie! Ellie's just like... I don't think I can express in words. I would have to talk... I can't express to you guys how deeply I hate Coraline. And not because... Why? No, no, no. Okay. I feel like not because of... I don't think it's a bad movie. Like, I think it's incredibly done. I think it's really cool claymation or whatever. I think it's got cool, like, hidden things foreshadowing. All that stuff is great. But it, like, genuinely shakes me to my core. It's, like, one of the most terrifying movies I have watched. And I think why it's so terrifying to me is because one of my biggest fears... And if I watch a horror movie that has this plot, I... It's insane to me. My, like, biggest, scariest thing is, like, being trapped in a world that is slightly, like, off. Like, it's normal. But it's off. And then I'm trapped. And, like, everyone else, everything else in the world is, like, against me. And I can't get out. And everyone else thinks I'm crazy. And all this stuff. And you just, like, can't get out. And then you don't. And you're stuck there forever. Or you die. And, like, it's just... Oh, my gosh. What's wrong with you with that plot? Like, don't worry, darling. Oh. That freaks me out. But that's a really good movie. Just, like, a whole... A bunch of other things. See, Coraline just... I love Coraline just because, like, obviously how cool it is. But I just like the way it's done. And how it's, like, a cartoon. But it does... It's, like, scary. That's another thing. Claymation terrifies me. Like, I actually have a phobia of Claymation. I think it's so... I just want to make a Claymation movie. Uh-uh. Like, I watched this one, like, comedy Claymation movie. And it was about, like... Is it a dog? I love a dog. No. No. It was, like, literally supposed to be a funny... No. No, but that freaks me out, too. No, but I watched a comedy Claymation movie. And to me, it was a scary movie. I hate Claymation. I love Claymation. But, like, I also love, like, A Nightmare Before Christmas, The Corpse Bride. Like... Yeah, those are good. They're, like... It's just... It's just a genre. But, like, wait. Back to Don't Worry, Darling. I thought we... Love it. I thought... Don't Worry, Darling is terrifying. Like, it's so... But it's, like... I'm, like... Like, I think... I think Don't Worry, Darling is not as scary as Coraline. And I think it's simply because of Claymation. And... I'm... Okay, unpopular opinion. I didn't really like Don't Worry, Darling. We saw it for my birthday last year. Like, I remember watching it. I think I saw it on the same day that you guys did, but just not with you guys. You weren't... Actually, you were invited. I had to be with my parents. Oh, yeah. You... Your sister was in town. Yeah, my sister was in town. Wow. Ellie hates me. Whoa. Ellie doesn't watch my birthday party. No, but we... I remember seeing it, and, like, at first, I was, like, eh. And then I... It grew on me a little bit. But then I, like, watched... You had to fill in the blanks yourself, and it wasn't, like, a great... You had to make up a lot of stuff to make it interesting. There was no character building. Yeah. Like, it's one of those movies, and, like, we talk about this in, like, my writing class. It's, like, you have to make, like, your audience... In, like, writing, or, like, scripts, you have to make them care about your characters, and you kind of just don't, because there's nothing that, like, sets up their character. It, like...
