The speaker discusses Taylor Swift's recent album release and shares their opinions on the songs and production. They mention the setlist for her tour and the addition of new songs. They express disappointment in the repetitive sound of her recent albums and suggest that she needs an editor for her lyrics. They also mention specific lines from the album that they find questionable. Overall, they have mixed feelings about the album but appreciate the influence of her earlier music. ♪ Gorgeous. You're so gorgeous. Oh, that's the perfect segue. Yeah, Kaylee? Let's hear it, Kaylee. What do you want to talk about today, Kaylee? Oh, my gosh. Okay, so I'm not a crazy Swifty. I just like to watch, like, the TikToks where people have already figured out all of her puzzles, and then I'm just, like, informed and updated, but I'm not crazy after solving her puzzles. But, apparently, in Paris last night, she debuted her Tortured Poets Department set list as part of the Heiress Tour, and I'm so upset that I saw the Heiress Tour before this album came out. Really? She took out, I think, two songs from, like, Folklore and, like, a couple others, and then she added in, like, four or five, maybe, like, songs from this album, and the first one is Daddy, I Love Him, and I would—God, I would pay such good money to see that song live. She did so high school, too, didn't she? Did she? I don't know. I think so, because she did—it was, like, about—she was on, like, the stage sitting with all her backup dancers. So, I got rid of TikTok. I, like, have deleted TikTok off my phone, and that's where I was getting all my Taylor Swift information was TikTok, so I'm really— That's a bold move, honestly. I know. So, I'm really behind on all of the Taylor Swift, like, new album stuff. Like, I would be way through all the theories by now, but I'm not. Oh, but I can do it with a broken heart, I guess, was the first one. Actually, I was wrong. I'm sorry. Oh, yeah. But it looks grand. The setlist, great. Her acting, she's so dramatic. Like, she's such a theater kid. I don't know if she's actually a theater kid, but, like, girl's a theater kid. But, yeah. I know, Meg, you had differing opinions. I guess we had similar opinions, actually. We talked about when the album first came out. Yeah. The first couple of songs have that same kind of dark techno-y, like, slow techno— It's the synth beats. Synth, yeah. Jack Antonoff needs the synth beats taken away. I've said it once, I'll say it again. He needs them taken away. The first three songs sound the same. But, Daddy, I Love Him, like, the, like, different bits of the song have been stuck in my head, I will say. Yes. No, it gets tragically stuck. I think there's crack in this album. Because, like, I will be doing absolutely nothing. I will have not listened to the song for, like, three days. And then, all of a sudden, I'm, like, walking through my house singing various parts of the song. That's so funny. And, like, I will not know more than, like, one line. Oh, no. But it'll be the whole chorus, like, stuck in my head. And I'll just be, like, humming the beat. And then I'll sing the one line I know. But it's just, like, on repeat. And I think I've decided, officially, that But, Daddy, I Love Him is my favorite song on the album out of all 30 of them. Wow. There's 30 songs on this fucking album? Yeah. It was, like, a secret double album. It was a secret double album. At 2 a.m., she was, like, surprised. Here's 15 more. I said, girl, what are you doing? Meg is of the opinion that someone needs to be editing and limiting Taylor's music production. She does. Because some of her music is really good. And some of it is, like, girl, this is, like, your first draft. Can we revise? No. Like, for some of the lyrics in this one, I'm just, like, are you sure? Are you positive? Because, like, okay, so I'm a big, like, I love, love, love 1999. I was an OG Taylor Swift girl. It was, like, fifth, sixth grade when, like, Taylor Swift, like, the album came out. Taylor Swift came out when we were in fourth grade because me and my friend sang teardrops on my guitar as fourth graders in the college. I sang a song from the Taylor Swift, Taylor Swift album. Can't remember which one, I'll be honest with you. I sang one in my fifth grade talent show. At all? Yes. My God. But I was, like, OG, like, I loved Taylor Swift's first album. I loved Fearless. And then I just, like, tapered off. I don't know what happened. But I just, you know, started listening to other stuff. And then I came back, like, 1989, loved that album. I still do. It's so just, like, hee-hee, like, giggly. 1989 girls have been hungering for more since 1989 came out. None of her albums have been 1989. Yeah. I think that's why I'm just, like, well, I guess we just have that. But I did really love, like, I really liked Folklore because it's just, like, soothing. Like, it's just kind of there. Like, it's nothing, like, wild. Like, I don't know, it's just nice. Midnight came out at the wrong time. I never, I couldn't get around it. I couldn't get over the... Karma is a Cat? Karma is a Cat line. Karma is a Cat line. Also, everybody is a sexy baby, and I'm a monster on the hill. I can't get over that line, and I won't ever. What does that even mean? Correct. So, it's actually, like, some kind of literary allegory or reference to the idea that she's really tall. I get that. But we didn't even, like... Can you, wait, repeat it? Everybody is a sexy baby, and I'm the monster on the hill. I understand she's really tall, but we don't need the sexy baby. In relation to the idea that, like, we, like, infantilize and, like, worship and, like, put all of, like, I don't know, idolize. Like, put all of our, like, sex and beauty standards in, like, the small, dainty little girls. And, like, because she's tall and, like, she's never felt like she's part of that. Because she's tall? She just has always... It's just part of, like, the, like... I mean, I don't know all of it. I don't even know how tall she is, to be honest. I don't know either. I know she's, like, tall. I have nothing else to contribute to this. I don't have an issue with, like, her being, like, obviously, like, that's how she feels. Yeah. I don't like... The term sexy baby, like, gives me the ick. I think the term... Because I think I've heard this before. I was watching TikToks on this. And, like, I don't think she came up with that term. I think it's an actual term that she's just using. I don't like it. Yeah. She is 5'11". She's tall. She's tall. She's a tall girl. Yeah, she's a... Girl, you get that tall man. Yeah. And, like, Midnight's, I just, like... I liked some of the songs, but I was never, like... It's not my favorite album. Yeah. And so then this one, some of them are a vibe. Like, I like... Like, some of the music's good. I'm only... Like, I will say, I haven't given a lot of them more than, like, two listens yet because I'm just, like, I need some time. I liked the anthology songs for the most part more than the bass album songs because a lot of the bass album songs, I kept looking them up. The ones I liked were not produced by Jack Antonoff. I love their friendship and, like... I love it. And I know he's a loving man. Historically, I really appreciated Jack Antonoff's, like, production, but I don't think you're wrong in saying that, like, a lot of the stuff that him and Taylor are producing together sounds the same these days. Yeah. And a lot of it is that, like, synth kind of intro and, like, weird things to the music. They're just loving the synth. It's not always been like that, but, like, the past two albums have been. Yeah. And I think, like, it's the same sound over and over again. And I think that's why, maybe. Because, like, I like her other music. Like, I have no... Like, Reputation, great, but these last two albums, I think they just have such a similar sound. It's not a sound that, like, I particularly am, like, drawn to, I guess. Yeah. So I'm not saying it's, like, horrific by any means, but I do think she needed an editor on some of those lyrics. So, like, very specifically, he's a tattooed Golden Retriever line, and then they declared Charlie Puth a bigger artist. Okay, but did you see that Charlie Puth put out a single prior to the release of his new album, and he's, like, low-key thanking Taylor Swift for the nod? I do love that, because, like, I'm sure it helped him. Like, I'm sure that it... Yeah. You know, but, like, Charlie Puth, we do... I mean, he's lovely. I don't think he's ever done anything wrong, right? He did it to me like a bae, though, right? No, that was, um... What's his face? Sean... Oh, Sean Mendes. Sean Mendes. Okay. I'm just like, how did I know that? Thank you, Aileen. No, I don't think Charlie Puth has done anything problematic, other than, like, the man has perfect pitch and has made videos about it, and I think some people just hate that. But, like... I know, I'm like, he's never really done anything wrong. Okay, so this one. Who is Charlie Puth? What does Charlie Puth actually sing? Oh. Now that I have him mixed up with Sean Mendes in my head. I don't know, actually. I think he was on We Don't Talk Anymore. Oh. Yeah. This is one of the lines, and I can't get it out of my head. Yes. And so I was out of the oven and into the microwave, out of the slammer and into a tidal wave. I think we could have... Oh, is that from Fresh Out the Slammer? Yeah, I think we could have rhymed. There were so many other things that could have come to mind. Out of the oven and into the microwave. I don't know that I've ever paid attention and heard that line. There's a lot that I'm like, if I didn't read these, I'd be like, there's no fucking way that she wrote that and nobody was like, girl, no. But see, it's so crazy to me that she has lines like that, but then, like, her just musical genius, for lack of a better word. Like, I think when I say that these songs have crack, the reason that they have crack and they get stuck in your head so easy is because so many of them pull music from her earlier albums and directly allude to and, like, share melodies and, like, songs, like, parts of the songs with other albums. Like, people... I've been seeing so many videos of people that are, like, directly matching up songs from, like, this album to songs from previous albums before. Like, someone seamlessly matched White Horse and... I'm not gonna be able to think of which one it was now. From the new album. One of the ones from the new album. And, like, beautiful, heartbreaking, but it's, like, the same... The melodies echo each other. Like, it's, like, pulling in pieces from her old stuff. And it's, like... How do you do that? Like, how do you... She is... She does love, like, an Easter egg, and I will say she's really good at, like, connecting things and, like, planning stuff out. Well, and, like, that's such good marketing for her. If people start catching that, like, oh, this sounds like one of her old songs. What are they gonna do? What's she gonna look up her old song? What's she gonna get more hits on her old songs? Yeah, right. Like, it's such a, like, a successful business model for her. Like, you can hate her all she wants, but she's damn successful. And, like... Yeah. She did that all herself. For sure. No, like, I think she's really, really good at what she does. I also love Baddadi. I love him because she straight up is, like, I'm having his baby. No, I'm not. But you should see your faces. Like, she literally just threw that line out there knowing people were gonna eat that shit up. Oh, yeah. And be, like, psyched. I saw so many reactions on TikTok to that song where people were doing, like, a first listen, and they were like... And they're like, ha, ha, ha, like, she got me. Like, yeah, she did. But, yeah, like, as much as I'm, like, I don't love her last two albums, like, I do think she... I mean, she's really good at what she does. I just, like, I don't know. She needs an editor. She needs somebody to go into those lyrics because you know, I don't know if people will disagree with me. If she was not Taylor Swift, let's say this was a new artist that came out and wrote a song with that lyric in it, they'd get eaten alive. Yeah. People would be like, that's shit. I'm not listening to it. Like, they need to be better. And, like, that, like, truthfully, like, I don't think that's her best work. Like, she, like, she can do better. This feels stream of consciousness. Yeah, it is so hard because, like, she is... Like, people do say, you know, like, she can't... She doesn't have the widest vocal range or she can't hit the most notes. She is, like, a lyrical, like, she's really good at writing song lyrics. And, like, I do think that's true. She does have so many songs that are so lyrically interesting. Yeah. And there are some on this album that are so lyrically, like, they're beautiful allegories and they're, like, a great story. And then you have some that, yeah, like you said, you're like, maybe we didn't need 30 songs because maybe some of these weren't polished. Yeah. It's, like, in Daisy Jones when, like, who was it? Teddy was, like, you have, like, one finished song. Yeah. But you have, like, 15 others that are, like, they could be really good. And, like, I don't want it to sound like I'm just, like, shitting on this new album. But, like, some of it's not the best work she could have done. Some of it's good, though. Like, I did enjoy some of the songs. Like, don't get me wrong. I really liked some of it. But, like, I don't know. I'm, like, who are we to be, like, Taylor, are you sure this one's done? Yeah, I mean, I'm, like, no musical genius. But, like, I feel what you're saying. Like, some of the lyrics are just not up to, like, the same par. I just think she's getting away with something. Like, she's getting, like, some of it, like, she's getting a pass because it's Taylor Swift, which, like, totally cool. Whatever. But I would love just, like, a switch up for next time. Yeah. I will say, though, some of the songs that are about Jason, or Jesus, Jesus. You have the wrong brother. I did. Yep. Travis Kelce, like, the alchemy. Ugh. So High School. Ugh. Yeah. So High School, she performed. I really, that one was fun. That was a fun one. So good. Well, the ones where she, like, disses Mattie Healy are kind of funny. Apparently, like, the majority of the album is about Mattie Healy. Yeah. Well, there, she does a, apparently, I saw on TikTok. I would have never connected this because I personally never watched, never saw the 1975 in concert. Oh, are you talking about the video, like, the Fortnite video with Post Malone? Well, in the concert, she does the little walk that Mattie does, where she, like, salutes at the end. And she did that in her, like, the new Arrows tour. I love her. She's so just, like, bold. Apparently, I don't know anything about Mattie Healy or the 1975. Or I haven't even seen the music video for Fortnite. All I know is that he ate a raw steak on stage last year, and he got really sick from it. And that's all I know about Mattie Healy, really. He seems like an odd one. He's an odd, odd man. From the couple of girls that I've seen, apparently, him and Taylor have been friends for, like, years. And they kind of had this, like, questionable, like, are we, are we not, for, like, a very long time. But again, I'm not up to date on anything. But I also haven't watched the video. But apparently, Post Malone in the Fortnite video is, like, wearing, like, a Mad Scientist jacket and is, like, imitating something that Mattie Healy's done or does on stage for the 1975. And it's, like, blatantly on a comparison to him again, too. And I'm just, like, she's just, like, I think it's so funny that she calls these men out on stuff, but she protects herself by never directly saying who they are. Like, you can draw whatever parallels you want. I'm not slandering anybody. I've never said anyone's name. I've never directly said who any song- the only song that she has, like, publicly said is about anyone, I'm pretty sure, is, like, Back to December being about Taylor Wanner. And it's because her and Taylor Wanner are, like, publicly friends. Yeah. I will also say, though, that, like, let's be real, Style is about Harry Styles. You know, I- Yeah, but she doesn't know why it's, like, not- but it's, like, you can't- I love it. It's one letter off and she's like, who is his name? Well, it's like, you're John, it's about John Mayer, but, like- Style's a bop, though. I love that. Style's such a bop. Style's such a bop. But, like, your John has John's name in it. But, like, no one's out here, you know, she can't be charged for that because your John letters are, like, an actual thing that, like- Yeah. Like, she just used that. There was a whole book, wasn't there? Yes. Yes. I remember reading that. That is based on the idea of your John letters, which are, like, just- Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I remember reading that book now. That, like, came back to me just now. That was a sad book. Nicholas Sparks, baby. Yeah. Well, most of his books are sad books. I mean, yeah. Most of his books are sad books. I kind of gave up on his books. He's, like, the OG Colleen Hoover. I gave up on those. I still think he deserves better than that. I think he does deserve, like, I don't think he's- We got the last song, and, um, what's the one? Safe Haven. Oh, my God. And, um, oh, the one that has Zac Efron in it. Oh. They turned it into a movie and it has, like, Efron in it. Whatever you're thinking of. Oh. Oh, but they also got the one with, um, Britney Spears' son. The Longest Ride. Oh, The Longest Ride. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
