Sam Little - The Most Prolific Serial Killer in US History

Serial Slayers is a show discussing serial killers, and today they focus on Samuel Little, the most prolific serial killer in US history. Little confessed to 93 killings, with 60 confirmed by the FBI. He had a fascination with strangulation from a young age and had a history of criminal activity. He managed to elude police for decades before being apprehended in 2012. Little was convicted of four murders and died in prison in 2020. The host questions why Little doesn't receive the same recognition as other infamous killers and ponders if his upbringing in jail played a role in his path to crime. The host also discusses how Little didn't fit the typical image of an intimidating killer. Hello and welcome back to another exciting edition of Serial Slayers. I'm your host as always Brandon also known as Dr. Crime. Today we're going to talk about the most prolific serial killer in US history and that it it blows my mind that this person doesn't get the recognition that the others get. Then when I say the others I'm talking about Dahmer, I'm talking about Gacy, BTK, you know the Zodiac. It just it blows my mind that a person who is by the FBI's account the most prolific serial killer in US history he just doesn't get anything. Today we're talking about and if you're wondering who that is that is Mr. Sam Little, Samuel Little was the also goes by Mr. Sam the choke and stroke killer. Getting into a little bit of his backstory Sam Little was born June 7th of 1940 he passed away December 30th 2020 in prison. He was born in Georgia and I can't say for certain that how he was born or came about has anything to do with why he turned to a life of crime but he was born in jail essentially. The whereabouts of his mom were unknown but for all accounts he was born while she was locked up. He was raised by his grandma in in Georgia there for a while and he by his own accord had sexual fantasies of strangulation of strangling women excuse me way back when he was in kindergarten when he saw his teacher touching her neck for the first time. So according to him he's always had these fascinations if you will. When he was a kid he used to read true crime magazines and he just kind of went from there but we're gonna get into how he we're gonna get into how it is that he became the most prolific and and if you don't know he confessed to 93 killings 93 over the course of his time and and his his crime spree if you will spanned from 1970 to 2005 now that was confirmed he has of the 93 by the way that he claimed 60 have been confirmed by the FBI so he actually has 60 confirmed kills under his belt if you will but it's possible that he was going from 1960 to 2012 now that's not confirmed yet but it is it is possible this guy killed literally coast-to-coast ranging I mean it all started and here's here's the the being you know from the Midwest his first crime when he was 16 was breaking and entering in Omaha Nebraska where he was held by the juvenile system now was that his first crime that's the first thing he got arrested for and that's the other thing too it's not like this guy went on murdering people for decades without any interaction with law enforcement actually by 1975 he had 26 arrests already he was in and out of jail constantly so it just baffles me that he was able to elude police for these heinous crimes as long as he did it it it makes no sense at all he died when he was 80 in Los Angeles California let's see and his convictions here's the killer he was only can have plan works he was only convicted of four murders he had four life sentences without the possibility of parole and he wasn't apprehended until September 5th of 2012 but it's just when when he was first locked up I mean his past crimes weren't little crimes either he was driving on the influence fraud shoplifting sodomy rape armed robbery aggravated assault but in 82 he was arrested in Mississippi on charges of murdering a 22 year old but the grand jury declined to indict him he was extradited to Florida where he's tried for the murder of a 26 year old whose body was found in 82 but the due to mistrust of witness testimonies he was acquitted in 84 so he had been brought up before on charges of murder but it just kept flipping through the cracks non-stop and then when he he moved to California and he stayed in the vicinity of San Diego where he was arrested in 84 for kidnapping beating and strangulation a month later he was found by police in the backseat of a car with an unconscious woman that he had beaten and strangled same location as where he attempted to murder somebody else he served two and a half years for that for both crimes upon his release in 87 he moved to LA and he committed at least 10 murders there now he had stopovers on his way there he had stopovers in Phoenix he multiple different states that he was in Mississippi Louisiana obviously Florida Nebraska he was arrested in 2012 at a homeless shelter in Kentucky where that that's when it all stopped if you will that was the last big time that again his possible crime sprees ended in 2012 he was extradited out of California to face narcotics charges I mean imagine that California where now you can go and freely shoot up in the streets because that's what they want you to do but back then they arrested and extradited for narcotics charges he started confessing around November of 18 that's that's when he started confessing to the murders I don't know if he knew his time was coming up but he maybe he was asking for something extra not 100% but it's yeah he was confessing and there's a whole list that you can find multiple here's here's some of the locations that he murdered in like I said Florida Maryland Louisiana Georgia Ohio Tennessee Texas Illinois South Carolina I think I said Georgia Mississippi Louisiana Arkansas California and Phoenix Arizona and Nevada and what what kills me is that it's not like he went east coast to west coast and stayed there he just he moved back and forth consistently but how how did he elude police for so long it wasn't moving around because I mean we've got multiple serial killers who have moved and they're on the run for a little while but not decades of active killing and still able to elude police that entire time that that makes no sense to me it's it's rather astounding and especially and this might ruffle some feathers but you got to think about it back in the 60s 70s as a black man everyone talks about the atrocities that occurred don't you think that they would have noticed or looked a little closer like it's just like the Atlanta killings the Atlanta schoolboy killings they had no idea that it was that person who was doing it and we'll talk about who that was a little later but does it kind of goes back to something I had talked about or mentioned previously does the fact that he was born in a correctional setting play on anything that may have to do with who he became like they always say that once you go you know oh man I've been in prison prison changes you well do you think that if you're born there you're just destined to end up there because there's there's births that happen in prison every year multiple births actually I looked it up but I didn't write down the exact number every year but there's multiple births that occur so I wonder I'd be curious to know if there's a study done that they followed the lives of one of those kids or a set of those kids that were born to prisoners and how they turned out like you know how they say you know you don't become something you're born that way well was he destined was he destined to end up in prison was his life set before he even knew it be interesting to know but yes there's there's no I mean there's some true you know true crime confession tapes and a couple shows like that but he's he's just not he's not even in the whispers of the wind when you talk about the greatest serial killers ever and he he was the most prolific one so it blows my mind but we just wanted to come back in talk to you guys a little bit and get your thoughts on it what do you guys think obviously you can't give me a call on the hotline and talk about it but I don't have one established so that'd be kind of weird but um just ponder it ponder it over yourself like how how do you think he was able why do you think he was able to elude police for so long and then if you've ever seen a picture of this guy he's not an intimidating person so that leads to another question is there's a when you see somebody who plays a certain role in movies all the time it's called typecasting so because Sam Little didn't look the part if you will it's actually funny if you look him up he actually looks like little Richie like back when he was born is there back in a 56 like you got the the doo-wop hair and all that stuff but he just doesn't he didn't look the part of an intimidating serial killer so it's kind of weird the last mugshot that in 2012 like you can see he's got dead eyes but other than that he's not he's not anybody that I've given two looks to either so it's interesting to say the least but anyways just wanted to try and bring more knowledge to those who may not know but the next time that if it ever comes up you're in a discussion talking to friends or whatever blah blah blah and serial killers get mentioned if Sam Little isn't brought up then do you really know anything about serial killers aside what movies hot on Netflix at
