The ongoing war between Israel and Hamas has created a backlash globally, including in North Carolina. The Jewish and Muslim communities in the state have been affected, and there is concern about the humanitarian crisis resulting from the conflict. The weather today will be partly cloudy with a chance of rain. The Winston-Salem Dash will have a six-game series against the Greensboro Grasshoppers. The Merle Fest music festival will take place at Wilkes Community College. Underwriting for WFDD is provided by various sponsors. It's 10-08. Good morning. You're listening to WFDD, public radio for the Pivot and High Country. I'm Dave Howard. Coming up in about 10 minutes, the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas and the rising death toll among Palestinians living in Gaza has created a tremendous backlash against Israel and Jewish communities as well as Palestinian and Muslim communities worldwide. A similar backlash from that conflict has been experienced right here in North Carolina. In our upcoming segment, we'll hear more about the public response to the Israel-Hamas war and how it's affected both the Jewish and Muslim communities here in the Tar Heel State. We'll also hear about Muslim, Jewish, and other faith communities here in the Piedmont and their responses both to the war itself and the mounting humanitarian crisis that's resulted from it. Right now it's 69 degrees in Winston-Salem. Today's forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with a chance of rain in the mountains, highs of around 72 degrees in the Triad and 68 in Boone. Tomorrow rain is likely, highs will be in the upper 60s and a bit cooler in the mountains. Checking the community calendar, if you're looking for some family fun along with a bit of rivalry among two minor league baseball teams from right here in the Piedmont Triad, we've got just the thing. The Winston-Salem Dash will open their at-home season with a six-game series against the Greensboro Grasshoppers. The games are on consecutive days, April 9th through the 14th, and all of them will be played at Truist Stadium here in Winston-Salem. This year, as in the past, Merle Fest brings together almost 100 different artists from bluegrass to the blues, Cajun jazz, you name it. More information and tickets are available at merlefest.org.
