F.M. Alexander said that our habits determine our futures. Intellectual powerhouses seek wisdom and value curiosity, while artists and dancers create through imagination. Social media powerhouses create content and influence others. As children, we were told we could be anything, but often lack the habits to support our goals. We must decide to create habits or give up on our dreams. As adults, we're wiser and developing skills for change. Our choices in the present determine our future. Easy is earned through practice, and by developing good habits, we can transform anything. F.M. Alexander is credited with saying people do not decide their futures, they decide their habits and their habits decide their future. When I hear an intellectual powerhouse, I know that they have the habit of seeking wisdom and that they value curiosity. When I see a beautiful piece of art or a disciplined dancer, I know it was created by someone in the habit of creation and that they value imagination. When I'm exposed to a social media powerhouse, I know that this person has the habit of creating content and they value influencing others. When we were children, our parents would tell us that we could be anything we wanted. And while that's mostly true, we often don't develop the habits needed to support these kinds of lofty goals. So the space between where we are and where we want seems so vast that we have to either decide to create the habits and move forward or we just set those dreams aside because they're too far off and they require skills that we haven't practiced. We're grown-ups now and we've learned that we can do whatever we want, but now we are wiser and we're developing the skills to support change. This week, when examining your missions and deciding on your next food choice, thinking about if you'll take the top off your water bottle or if you really need to get that third workout in, consider that this moment decides your future. Easy is earned. And the more we practice those habits, the easier this challenge becomes and the sooner you can move forward transforming absolutely anything.
