Sometimes when we start a new fitness plan, we can get thrown off by various obstacles or setbacks. But instead of focusing only on the negative, we should also celebrate the small victories and progress we make along the way. It's not just about the touchdowns or home runs, but also about all the little things we do to stay on track. By keeping a positive mindset and acknowledging our efforts, we can stay motivated and continue making progress. Sometimes when we begin a new journey, like starting to focus or refocus on our fitness regimen, we are super excited about our new and shiny plan. We are ready, and we hope that this time, this is the one. This is the opportunity to really make some progress and finally hit the goal. Then something throws you off. It could be a party or PMS or a cranky boss or child. It might be the break room or getting a cold. Maybe it's free food during that lunch meeting or just a lack of time or failure to plan that has you eating the last of the dinosaur nuggets off of your toddler's plate. And then you're mad. You're disappointed. We're sure that this means it's over and we blew it. I'd like to invite you to change your perspective here. How are we keeping score? When my youngest son was small, he used to ask if his brother got a touchdown during his baseball game. It was adorable. We all knew what he meant. Did he score? So I'm going to ask you the same. Did you score? I know that mindlessly eating the remnants of your kid's plate happened, but was the day a score? Did you get your water? How about those protein shakes? Did you reach out to your coach? Did you schedule this week's workouts? Did you take the chicken out of the freezer? Did you get to your gym shoes laid out for the morning? All of those opportunities put points on the board. Don't sabotage yourself by only counting touchdowns or home runs. Count everything. In the same way that a lot goes into every score in a game, a great deal goes into a solid day or week or month of progress. Every thought, every action lends itself to progress. So give yourself a mental high five. Remind yourself of the yards gained. It will keep you in the game even if today isn't a touchdown. And I have the ultimate secret. Those that stay in the mix of the game win. Thanks for a super day.
