Dana and Julia discuss their experiences working in customer service. Julia works at McDonald's and finds it awful, while Dana works at Starbucks and enjoys the benefits. They share the best and worst parts of their day, including Julia getting a new Cardi B t-shirt and Dana dealing with a rush. They also talk about interesting experiences, such as a customer ordering an extra greasy Big Mac and a woman throwing a drink at Dana. They rate customer service and their respective workplaces, with Julia giving McDonald's a 4 out of 10 and Dana giving Starbucks a 6 out of 10. They thank listeners and invite them to tune in for the next episode. Hi, it's Dana. And Julia. Today we're going to be talking about our shared experiences and individual experiences in working customer service jobs. So before we begin, I have to address the elephant in the room. We weren't quite sure exactly what we were going to talk about for this podcast, but we eventually decided on something that is going to fit us and our personalities and our ramblings very well. So Julia's going to introduce herself and where she works and a little bit about herself. Hi, I'm Julia. I unfortunately work at McDonald's. I'm 18. I go to college. And I work a part-time minimum wage paying job, and it's awful, but hopefully not for long. OK, and I'm Dana. I'm 18 years old. I've been working at Starbucks for two years, going on my third year this year. And yeah, I went from minimum wage to now a little bit over minimum wage. So fortunately for this podcast, Julia and I both worked today. Julia, what time did you work today? I worked from 9 to 4 today. That's crazy, because I worked from 8 to 3.30. So we're like almost the same. I just worked a little bit longer than you. 30 minutes. And your point being? I made more money than you. I'm just kidding. Julia, what's the best thing that happened at work today? The best thing that happened at work today was that I got a new Cardi B t-shirt. It's very silly, and it's for Valentine's Day. No one yelled at me today. Really? That's pretty good. That's pretty good. That doesn't happen very often. No, not at all. The worst thing? My manager was there. The general manager was there. That was not fun. Typical. The best part of my day was asking customers what their favorite color was. I would take orders and be like, hi, welcome to Starbucks. What's your favorite color? Hi, welcome to Starbucks. What's your favorite movie? What's your birthday? And it was really funny watching my coworkers react to me, asking the most stupid questions. I'd say the worst part of my day today was just a rush. Today was a pretty bad day. It was constantly busy, all seven and a half hours. And I was tired, and I didn't feel good. But yeah, the worst part of my day was the mid-morning rush when I came in and I took over for somebody. And they had been making drinks slowly. And so I had to be like, oh my god, hey people, I'm sorry that your drinks are coming out. And they blame it on me, which is fine. But anyway, so there's no segue. Julia, what's the most interesting experience you've had working customer service? There's a bunch, but one that's pretty interesting is a guy came through the drive-thru and he was asking for a Big Mac with eight extra patties on the side, extra greasy, whatever the hell that means. And then he asked if we could put it all into one sandwich. And we did it. We did it. Extra greasy, all in one. Did you get a picture of it? I wish I did. I couldn't have my phone out. But I wish I could have a picture of that. Hilarious. There's been a lot of interesting things to happen to both Julia and me. But I think the thing that stands out right now, right in this moment, is when a woman threw her drink at me. I handed out, you know, this woman was being a pill. And I was, you know, trying to just deal with her. And I wouldn't let her get her way because she was trying to get free money and stuff. And I handed out her drink with milky and cold foam. It was an iced drink, thank gosh. And she, and I was like, have a good day. Because I say that to everybody. I say have a good day to every single customer. And she, I guess, didn't like my tone. And so right before the window doors shut automatically, she threw the drink at me and it spilled everywhere. So that's my customer story. So in closing, how would you rate customer service? How would you rate McDonald's? My coworkers are what make it actually bearable. But McDonald's itself is awful. They don't treat their employees too well. So overall, all things considered, I would say a 4 out of 10. That's higher than I thought you were gonna give it. I'd give Starbucks a 6 out of 10 because there's a lot of really, really good opportunities and amazing benefits. It's just that, you know, when they wake up in the morning, they're expecting everything to be perfect. But I woke up as well. I just woke up as well. It is 4 a.m. I'm also tired. You know, I'm not perfect. I'm a human. You know, if I spill your coffee all over myself, I'm gonna get you another one after I cry about it. Well, guys, thank you so much for listening to this podcast. We hope you enjoyed it. Tune in for next week's episode. Catch you later. See you later.
