Philip describes his first year experience at Bentley as an adventure. Being from Minnesota, he finds the transition to a new part of America and the vibrant city of Boston to be exciting. As an out-of-state student, he has enjoyed meeting people from different backgrounds but also finds it challenging to relate to others who are not from the same place. He advises incoming first-year students to embrace the struggles and be open to new experiences. All right, hi Philip. So how would you describe your first year experience in one word? I would say adventure. Why would you say that? I feel like adventure is the fitting word for me for my first year experience because as someone not from the New England area, I'm from Minnesota in the Midwest, so coming out to a new part of America full-time has been an adventure in itself but then also being in the vibrant city of Boston there's a bunch of adventures that I've found myself going on or even when it comes down to people I've met it just feels like an adventure because it's all new and people are also in a way you could argue in their own No, yeah No, I'm I'm also an out-of-state student. I'm from Louisiana So it's like very different parts of the world. I think you could probably relate to yeah So, I mean, how do you think the transition has been as like an out-of-state student? Do you think it's difficult? Like what kind of struggles have you been through as like? I would say for the positives I think Bentley's a very open and welcoming community and I've been able to meet people from a lot of different walks of life and Different parts of the world and I've really enjoyed that and I don't feel like I've had a problem in that sense However, you could also say it's a double-edged sword when it comes to being new people from other parts of the world Not just America because there can be a lack of relatability. So I think that's been the biggest con No, yeah, like you kind of like you grew up in the same place. Like I had never moved I kind of like you have all these shared experiences and things you can relate with Yeah, and you're kind of thrown into this completely new world. You have someone from like Dubai I don't know what I have in common with you. Normally you can find something but it's just a lesser amount of Relatability. Yeah, I would say that's the con And so what do you think like what advice would you give for someone who's coming into their first year of university Like how do you think that they could deal with the struggles that they're gonna do like be presented with? I think the best way of Facing the struggles is not running away from them and rather embracing them because you're only going to grow through new experiences and adventures, so Don't try to shield yourself, but rather open yourself up and be vulnerable and be willing to try new experiences Oh, yeah, this is the time to make mistakes. Yeah All right, well, thank you for thank you for having me Garrett, thank you
