Today on What's for Lunch, Christi Cassidy describes a comforting lunch she made on a dreary day. She explains that they had ham and cheese with fried eggs on rolls, served with homemade bread and butter pickles and stale potato chips for added crunch. While eating, they watched the Yankees play their final regular season home game, knowing they won't make it to the playoffs this year. Christi reflects on the disappointment of the Yankees not going to the playoffs in 2016, the year she moved back East. She also mentions the excitement of watching the Chicago Cubs go to the playoffs after a long time. Overall, she describes the meal as a fabulous choice for a drizzly day. Welcome back to What's for Lunch. I'm Christi Cassidy. Today is a drizzly, dreary day that just begs for something warm and comforting for lunch. We decided we had some ham and cheese, found a couple of rolls in the freezer, and fried up some eggs to go on top. That and some homemade bread and butter pickles on the side with some kind of stale potato chips. The potato chips were not my idea, but they add a little crunch. We put on the TV because the Yankees are playing their final regular season home game today against the Arizona Diamondbacks. They are not going to the playoffs. It's the first time they haven't gone to the playoffs since 2016. Oddly enough, 2016 is the year that we moved back east from Santa Fe, and what a disappointment that was to know that the Yankees, the New York Yankees, were not going to go to the playoffs. It was just shocking. We watched the Chicago Cubs go to the playoffs, and that was an amazing playoff season because they had not been to the playoffs since, I think, maybe 100 years. I won't ramble on about baseball too much. Let's just say the pickles and ham and melty cheese and a fried egg on a nice toasted bun on a dreary drizzly day is a fabulous thing.
