The speaker talks about their experience in a show choir that inspired the TV show Glee. They mention that the show choir wasn't popular in their high school but gained popularity within the show choir community because of the Glee connection. The speaker admits to not having seen Glee but mentions that their choir, Carmel Ambassadors, is similar to the mean choir in the show. They also discuss a controversial performance about 9/11 that may have been referenced in Glee. The speaker made friends through the choir but didn't continue it in college because they enjoyed the competition aspect. So I want to talk to you about your experience being in a show choir that Glee was based off of in high school. So I wanted to ask you if this influenced any popularity at your school or made it, your like specific choir, more appealing to students and faculty? Yeah, so I went to Carmel High School, so I was in the Carmel Ambassadors. It's their mixed ensemble, or their advanced mixed ensemble. So I would say that within the high school, it didn't necessarily advance the popularity of the show choir, because show choir is like not exactly like a popular like activity, I would say. It goes along with like theater kids or whatever. Do you know what I'm saying? Yeah. But I would say like amongst the show choir community, it did advance the popularity because everyone was always excited to see the Carmel Ambassadors and like, oh, like they're based off of Glee, like, no way, like, is that really them? Like, but I think that I haven't seen Glee personally, but I'm pretty sure that it's like Vocal Adrenaline or whatever it's called, is like, aren't they like known to be? No, wait. Okay, wait. I just had a realization. So I've never seen Glee. Okay. So I don't fully know what I'm talking about. But the ensemble that it's based off of, or Carmel Ambassadors, isn't like Vocal Adrenaline. They're like, they come on for like some parts, and they're like the mean choir, because Carmel is known to be like rich snobby kids. Okay, interesting. And so they're like the mean ones or whatever. But people were still like, no way, like your choir is like mentioned in Glee and stuff. So that's where it comes in, the connection, yes. Thank you. So I did watch a little bit of Glee, but I never fully finished it. So the whole point was that, was the connection that like they're like the snobby, like, whatever, like, group of kids from that area. Right, right. Okay. Yeah. So like, even though it wasn't exactly a positive thing, it was still like, cool that it was mentioned. So yeah, it's definitely really cool. And um, do you know if any of your like, like anything that you guys presented was in Glee or part of it or that's not, you're unsure? I'm not 100% positive since I haven't seen it. But I feel that I've heard some things about, there was one year that a long time ago that Carmel Ambassadors did a really controversial set about 9-11. And it was like, supposed to be a tribute, but it came off a little bit insensitive. And I'm pretty sure that there's mention of it or like a very like insensitive set that the group does in Glee that like is like kind of like mentioning it or like hinting at it. So not exactly a positive reference, but building off the idea. Right. Very interesting. And so you were part of the choir, right? I was. Yeah. Did you make a lot of friends through it? Is it something that like, was it a big deal when you were applying to college or anything like that? Yeah. I definitely made a lot of my friends in high school through Ambassadors, but I knew that choir wasn't something I wanted to continue in college because they do have a show choir here at IU, but they don't compete and competing and like winning was my favorite part. And I liked being like well, like being in a group that was well known. And I feel like I wouldn't have the same experience with Singing Hoosiers. They're definitely, I feel like a great group and they're really strong in what they do, but I really liked the competition aspect. So it didn't exactly affect my, it wasn't part of something I was looking into for college. Okay. Got it. Yeah. Very interesting. I mean, that's a crazy story over there.
