Artificial light, especially ultraviolet and blue light, can disrupt the hormonal system and cause health issues. Light pollution harms the environment, animals, and humans. It affects animal behavior and disrupts the natural cycles of plants. Both artificial and natural sources of light, such as the sun, can have negative effects on the human body, including sunburn and premature aging. Light pollution also harms animals, with insects being drawn to lights and killed, impacting the food chain. Marine ecosystems are also affected, with turtle hatchlings being led away from the ocean by artificial lights. Laws and individual actions can help reduce light pollution and its harmful effects. Protecting ourselves from UV rays and supporting nature can improve the situation. Artificial light can disrupt the hormonal system and this can cause several lifelong health issues. Ultraviolet and blue light are the biggest concerns. Light pollution is bad for the environment. Animals and ecosystems are being affected and professionals are seeing changes in animal behavior. Light pollution can cause a lot of harm to not only the environment but also animals and humans. Light pollution has made it so we can barely see stars. Plants even depend on the cycle of night and day, making it so artificial light, especially at night, can throw off a plant's response to the change of seasons. Humans have created artificial lights by burning flesh-heating materials, but all the damage hasn't been done by humans. There are some natural disasters that can create harmful UV rays. For example, volcano eruptions, thunder, and the biggest problem of them all, the sun. Although the sun is the main way fruits and vegetables grow and also the way flowers and plants bloom, the sun can also cause many bad effects on the human body. The sun can obviously cause very bad sunburn. Actually, sun damage can also cause premature aging. UV rays are an invisible kind of radiation that comes from the sun. Almost all skin cancers are caused by too much exposure to UV rays. Too much UV radiation from the sun and UV rays can damage the DNA inside our skin cells. Skin damage can definitely build up over time, meaning it causes cells to start going out of control, which can lead to skin cancer. Of course, humans aren't the only ones being harmed by light pollution and artificial light. There are animals who have been struggling. Large numbers of insects, a primary food source for birds and other animals, are drawn to artificial lights and are instantly killed upon contact with light sources. In Germany, there was a study done on blackbirds where they found that traffic noise and artificial light at night are causing birds in the city to become more active and awake much earlier. The blackbirds waking up much earlier and the bugs being drawn the wrong way are caused by artificial lights. Even marine ecosystems are being bothered. And turtles, hatchlings are being drawn away from the ocean because of bright artificial lights. There are a number of things we can do to help the animals, ecosystems, and ourselves. A number of states have laws that help control the light pollution big companies extinguish. We can also help too. We can turn off lights that are not in use. For example, make sure to turn off the light after you are done using the restroom. Or limiting how many lights you have on is also a good idea. Artificial light causes a lot of damage, not only to humans, but to ecosystems, animals, and even plants. It's all a ripple effect when it comes to nature. Insects are naturally drawn to bright lights and are killed most of the time when they follow that light. Insects are a really big part of birds and other animals' diets. So if these insects keep dying, then that means birds and other animals that rely on bugs for food can't eat. Most skin cancers that humans suffer from come from too much exposure to UV rays. So make sure to wear protective clothing and wear sunscreen. I know it seems like a lot in order to try and reverse light pollution. But if we all pitch in, we could make our Earth a better place for everyone.
