The common factor among individuals with D.I.D. is experiencing a traumatic event, which is defined as a shocking or dangerous experience that affects them emotionally and physically. Continuing with causes, as previously expressed, D.I.D. can develop from many different forms of abuse or a combination of all during childhood, teenage years, and adulthood, with all producing different symptoms and leading to a misdiagnosis. Most individuals that suffer from D.I.D. will have one thing in common, and that's the experience of a traumatic event in their life.
