Welcome to our podcast, Debunk, where we will debunk your movie if it doesn't fit our taste. Introducing me as the host, Trayvon Shepard, and my fellow co-hosts, Breck and Aiden. Breck, tell us about your movie today. I will be discussing Aquaman today, which is clearly the best superhero movie of all time. Aiden, tell me about your podcast. I will be presenting the Joker movie, which I feel is the most creative piece of superhero material to come out in the past decade. And I, your host, Trayvon Shepard, will be introducing Deadpool 2. Now, as your host, I feel like I have the duty to be able to go first. It is explained by Deadpool 2 is the greatest superhero movie of all time. Now, Deadpool 2 is a good movie for a variety of reasons, including its engaging plots, witty humor, and memorable characters and stunting action scenes. According to Deadpool 2 plot IMBB, its engaging plot, Deadpool 2 has an engaging storyline that keeps the viewer interested from start to finish. The movie follows a strong character such as Deadpool as he forms a team of mutants called the X-Force to take on a powerful and dangerous enemy called Cable, who has come from the future to kill a young mutant named Russell. Now, its witty humor makes it stand above all superhero movies. The movie is known for its vulgar humor, which is a hallmark of Deadpool characters. Their jokes are clever and often self-aware, poking fun at the superhero genre and breaking the fourth wall to address audiences directly. Do y'all movies address audiences directly? I think not. As memorable characters, the movie includes several new characters that have quickly become fan favorites, including Cable, Domino, which is also known as Lady Luck, and the X-Force team members. Each character has their own unique personality and backstories, making them interesting and engaging to watch, and I don't see y'all movies having that either. Now, its special action scene was top-notch. Deadpool 2 has featured truly impressive action scenes, including a thriller chase sequence and an epic final battle. The fight character is expertly done and the special effects are top-notch, second to none. According to the box office, Mojo, Deadpool 2 grossed approximately $785 million worldwide during its theatrical run. Now, the movie was a commercial success all the way through, exceeding a production budget of $110 million and becoming the fifth-highest grossing R-rated film of all time. Is y'all superhero movies R-rated? I think not. Mine is, actually. It is R-rated. Yeah, if you talk about the Joker, Joker is not really a superhero. He's a villain. Therefore, I see why it's R-rated. Alright, Shayvon. So, Deadpool 2, really funny movie, really awesome, you know, very theatrical in the theaters, very cinematic. But what does it do different? What makes it the best? What makes it any better than your Thor or your Hulk or your Superman? I just see it as a plain old movie and that's about all I see from it. Now, if we talk about comparing it to any Marvel movie, let's take this as a precaution. Deadpool 2 is an R-rated film and therefore is very different from Thor, Iron Man, and all the other movies. Now, as you clearly would know if you have watched Deadpool 2, Deadpool 2 is very vulgar. Thor is not vulgar like that. Thor is on the side of justice. He would not kill a person. Iron Man would not kill a person. But Deadpool 2, he would shoot you, stab you, and push you over very quick without a second hesitation. And that's what makes him different from your regular superhero movie because he's not afraid to do what needs to get the job done. Alright, I hear you. But I also have a question. So, you mentioned that Deadpool 2 introduced new characters and I haven't seen these characters anywhere else since then. And I was just wondering, do you think it only introduced them because it's a sequel and they just ran out of ideas to put in the movie? That's where you're wrong. Because in Deadpool 2, the X-Team force that was created to defeat Cable, the enemy, yeah, they all died because they couldn't land out of the plane. So, therefore, I could hope that the way they died and the way they was killed. Now, the only one that survived was Domino. She had the superpower of luck, which made her lucky and was able to beat Cable. Now, I want you to keep in mind that this is a sequel. Has Aquaman got a sequel yet? I think not because the movie wasn't very terrible and people didn't like it. Thank you very much. Therefore, Jamu has got D-Buck. All right. I have the easiest job here because I'm going to be presenting the movie Joker, which is an 11-time Grammy-nominated and 2-time Grammy-winning movie. Now, we talked about rated R. Well, Joker is rated R. It is a masterpiece that transcends the superhero genre and provides a new perspective on the iconic character of the Joker. The film tells the story of Arthur Fleck, a failed stand-up comedian who turns into a life of crime and becomes the Joker. Set in the gritty and violent world of Gotham City, Joker explores the complex themes of mental illness, social inequality, and the consequences of a society that neglects its most vulnerable citizens. The movie is a tour de force of acting with Joaquin Phoenix delivering a stunning performance as Arthur Fleck. Phoenix fully immerses himself in the role, portraying a character who is both sympathetic and terrifying. He captures the Joker's trademark mannerisms and psychosis with haunting intensity that will leave audiences mesmerized. The supporting cast is also excellent, with Robert De Niro giving a memorable performance as a talk show host who plays a key role in the Joker's transformation. The film's exploration of social inequality is equally compelling. Arthur Fleck is a man who is living in poverty, struggling to make ends meet, and failing to receive the support and care he needs. The movie presents a bleak picture of society that is failing in its most vulnerable members. It's impossible to not feel sympathy for the Joker's plight. At the same time, the film doesn't excuse the Joker's violent actions, and it's clear that he is responsible for his own choices. The cinematography and direction in Joker are also top-notch. Director Todd Phillips creates a dark and brooding atmosphere that perfectly complements the film's themes. The use of color and lighting are particularly effective, with the movie's muted color palette and shadows adding to the sense of foreboding. The film's soundtrack is excellent, with a haunting score that perfectly captures the Joker's descent into madness. Overall, Joker is the best superhero of all time, because it is more than just a superhero movie. It is a powerful and thought-provoking film that explores complex themes and presents a new take on a beloved character. With exceptional acting, stunning cinematography, and compelling direction, Joker is a true masterpiece. Now, you talk about Joker, Joker the superhero movie. Now, I want you to recall your statement. You said, Joker has a very dark and violent theme to it. And, remind you, this is a superhero movie. If Jordan Redfield is a superhero, then he tried to kill Batman, then he burned all the places down to the ground, then he started an unprecedented mass shooting. A superhero doesn't do that. So, again, I will say to you, why is this a good superhero movie, but not a villain movie? I think it's very funny that you say that as a fan of the movie Deadpool, which hosts a character that walks around slaughtering people, basically, for the fun of it. But, as you said, is he a hero? I think that is the question the movie provokes. He's a hero to the people who are forgotten. The people who society forgets about. The people that you don't hear about. And I think that's exactly why you might not understand just who a hero he is to these type of people. Now, I also want you to picture this. If you compare Joker to Deadpool, which is kind of crazy, Deadpool does go after bad guys. He goes after bad guys. Including in Bamboo Toon, he went after the cable who was trying to kill a young kid named Russell. Joker killed kids. So, therefore, he's not a superhero. He's just a villain. I think that's why I disagree with you. Simply because the movie does a perfect job of explaining who these villains might just be to the Joker. As you can tell by Robert De Niro's performance as that host on that TV show, the movie does a great job of provoking him as a villain. As someone who is making fun of the weak. And then the Joker, he makes his stand and he becomes the statue, almost, for those who are making fun of in a similar position. So, this is not our first depiction of the Joker. In fact, I think there's been at least five different Jokers. So, why this Joker? Why is this one the best? Simply because I feel like this movie does a great job of not just showing the Joker as a villain, but showing him for what he stands for. Putting him in a light that you can maybe see him as a superhero. I think that is what makes this movie different. Because the Joker has always been seen as, you know, the bad guy who wants to kill Batman. But at the end of the day, he's an idea that a lot of people in today's society hold true to their identity. You mentioned the muted color palette and the darkness of the overall movie. And while I do feel like it adds to the theme, it does make it hard to watch. It's just hard to see what's going on. And it makes it not a movie that can be projected for people to see. It's just not a very versatile movie. It's really only meant for watching on a TV in a dark room. Absolutely, and she did have a good point. It was very boring. I felt good through the movie. It was not entertaining. It had one good plot. It actually had one good scene out of the whole entire movie that made it enjoyable. Other than that, I find the movie very tasteful. I feel you only feel this way because you're used to the classic Marvel stand-up comedian saves the day type aspect. He's always the hero. There's always a bad guy. And the good guy always wins. The Joker's complex. Even though the palette may be muted, it adds to a theme where if you dig under the movie and you dig under the acting and everything that is there, there's something much more beautiful than Jason Momoa's tits. I've heard some pretty good arguments, but I still believe the best superhero movie of all time is Aquaman. And I know this might be a shock to most because I know Aquaman has its flaws. The acting is not the best. The lines are cheesy, and the CGI can be hard to watch. However, according to Box Office Mojo, it made over a billion dollars in theaters, making it the top grossing DC movie ever and in the top 30 grossing movies worldwide. Neither of your movies can compete with that. So it clearly has an appeal beyond its surface flaws. I would first like to acknowledge the obvious appeal, and that is Jason Momoa, who plays Aquaman. He's a good-looking guy, and there is a crowd of people who saw Aquaman specifically because of him. But it's not just his good looks. This man is the embodiment of Aquaman. Born in Hawaii and of Hawaiian and Samoan descent, according to IMDb, the directors could not have picked an actor that fits the vibe of Aquaman more than this tall, buff, tan man with hair that makes it always look like he just came from the ocean. And good casting is important. But anyway, let's move on and talk about Aquaman as a hero. His powers include, according to the DC website, superhuman strength, extreme durability, breathing underwater, swimming exceptionally fast, and control over sea life. Most of his powers are water-based, which is seen as a disadvantage by many, but keep in mind the Earth is over 70% water. So really, you could say that all non-water-based superheroes are at a disadvantage. The DC website even says that he is one of the most powerful heroes in the DC universe. And a good superhero movie needs a powerful superhero. The movie shows his powers, but it's also about Aquaman becoming a hero. So he starts off not too strong, but gets stronger. By the end of the movie, I don't think they show his full potential, but you can tell he's got more in him, and besides, that is what Aquaman 2 is for. Looking more at the movie itself, something that needs to be appreciated is the camerawork. From unique angles, to capturing fight scenes with no cuts or camera switches, to beautiful contrasting scenes of slow-mo, light vs. dark, and good vs. evil. The camerawork is unique, and I appreciate that they tried something new, and it even worked out for them. To close off, I would like to remind you about superhero movies as a genre. I firmly believe that Aquaman exemplifies exactly what a superhero movie should be. Superhero movies are for kids. That's the audience. They aren't meant to be thought-provoking. They aren't meant to be fine art. They aren't meant to be gruesome depictions of murder. They are meant to be light, predictable, action-packed, and uplifting. Aquaman follows this perfectly. You've got Aquaman, a good guy who needs to save people. He's not perfect, but you can see his growth. You've got one-on-one fight scenes. You've got an action-packed war. You've got silly jokes. You've got a love story that watchers root for. But you can also tell that some thought went into the production, making it a movie kids can love and adults can appreciate. Now, you're talking about a movie that's based on a real-life man who is a fish. Aquaman is a glorified fish. All his superpower is to glorify fish, and that's all you've got for him. So why would I watch a movie about a fish underwater with barely any superpowers? According to the Marvel website, Deadpool has accelerated healing. He has superhuman strength and agility. And he's a skilled fighter, so he can basically chop Aquaman up. So therefore, I don't think Aquaman is a superhero. He's just a fish in an ocean that got lost and trying to find his way. Aquaman actually has all of Deadpool's powers, and then some. And he's not a fish. He is half Atlantean, which is just people that live underwater, and half human. So basically, he's a glorified mermaid. Yes. I feel like you haven't fully grasped the movie. He's not a merman, because he has no fish body parts. He's completely human form. Nobody wants to watch a predictable movie. Deadpool 2 wasn't predictable, because everybody thought Deadpool was going to come out and escape and everything, that he wasn't going to kill at all. But Deadpool ain't like that. Deadpool will literally cut anybody who comes across his path. That's evil. Aquaman did what? He left the people alive that hurt many people. That's not a superhero. That's a lazy person. If you ask me. Aquaman actually did have some dark moments. Not dark enough to make it R, so that kids can still enjoy it. But he did leave a man to die when he could have saved him. If you watch the after picture of it, like the end post-credits scene, he came back to life. He wasn't dead. But he left with the intention of him dying. Like a predictable superhero movie, they always come back. Regardless, you mentioned the grossing stats of Aquaman. And I find that very interesting. Because from what I could see online, it seems as if... Cut. I'm too lazy. I had Deadpool, and I had this whole section set up. So I find it very interesting that this Aquaman... You talked about how much money it made. It made $335 million dollars internationally. Well, what if I told you that this piece of art, as you call it, the Joker movie, actually made $400,000 more internationally. Now, continuing on with that. You said that superhero movies should be light-hearted, uplifting. The same thing every time. I'll tell you this. I won't read the same book more than once. What makes Aquaman any different than the superhero movies that come out of the Marvel or DC superhero factories? It just seems like they're all the same, and I don't know if I can stand for that. Well, to address your first concern, Aquaman made a total of over a billion dollars. Which is much more than the Joker. If you include both international and domestic. That is just not true. But, anyway! Maybe you wouldn't watch a movie like this again, because you are not the intended audience. Superhero movies are for kids, and it's almost embarrassing for adults to continue to be invested in these. But, it does try to bring some more adults in by having new themes. Like swearing, and drinking, and some more gruesome battle themes. You get to see a little more blood than the Marvel Universe lets you see. Well, I think that is all for our episode of Devonks. Can we show the side of Sorceress? Where is the side of Sorceress? There? Yes, well, during it. Oh, I didn't. Well, that's no problem. You can re-edit that. Alright, let me clap to finish this off. Well, people, that's all for our today's episode of Devonks. Where we will Devonk your movie if it doesn't meet up to our standards.
