Widgets are icons on your phone that display information from different apps. They can show things like recent messages, weather, or upcoming events. Widgets come in different sizes - small, medium, and large. You can add them to your home screen and they can be interactive, allowing you to check off lists or view updates. The transcription also mentions a Facebook widget that displays posts, events, and friend requests. Overall, widgets provide quick access to information without having to open the app. So, in today's class, we're going to be covering widgets. And some of you guys might know what a widget is, and a widget is basically an icon that has information, and this information could be from all types of different apps. So, if you have a widget for, let's say, your email app, it will probably show your five recent messages. If you have a widget for your weather, it could show you the weather for the next three, four, five hours or the next seven days. If you have a widget for Outlook or like that, you could have your widget that gives you your events, too, if you want to synchronize your phone with your Windows machine, too, and have an Outlook account and stuff like that. And these widgets are pretty nice. You have some for TikTok, YouTube, you have some even for Facebook to give you your updates and a few notifications, you know. And these widgets are also different sizes. You have a small, medium, and large. And sometimes they come in different, so let's say, for example, Outlook. One could be a large or calendar view, or one could be a large for your emails that are recent. So, always be cautious and read the description, you know, to the very end to know what these widgets are, okay? And a small widget would take a place of four apps. So, let's, we could imagine it, our icons are in rows and columns. Everybody's with me? If everybody's with me, so these rows and columns, so let's say column one, row one will be the very top application. Column two, row one will be the second application. If we go to row two, column one, and two, those four little squares right there, those icons, those become a widget, a small widget. So, the space of those apps are not there, it'd be taken up by a widget. And this widget retains information. So, they have another one that is more of a medium that takes over two columns, two rows I mean, two rows of those four columns, actually five columns, okay? And that's a medium. A large widget takes up half of the screen of your home, not your home screen, but of your phone, okay? So, this is a larger view, more information, and things like that. I'm going to demonstrate one right now, and the first thing we're going to do is add one to a page in our phone, okay? And just so you guys kind of know what I'm going to be doing, some of these in the latest updates of iOS, Apple has actually introduced, and I was waiting for this, I've been waiting for this, and I was like, man, if they do it, it'd be a great feature, but they call it interactive widgets. So, those widgets like, for example, that I'm going to explain on a reminders app, but these widgets become interactive, meaning you could check off a list. So, we're going to jump into it, we're going to look into it, and we're going to put a widget in our home screen. Not home screen, but on our page, on one of our pages in the phone. So, let's get to it. Yeah. Notifications. 10 minutes ago. Notification. Speak and make volume. 100%. Speak and make. 60%. 55%. So, I'm going to slow it down. Reminders. February. Reminders. Okay. So, right off the bat, I have one already on my main home screen, and it takes off, it takes, like, two columns, two rows on my home screen, and that's my calendar. Calendar. Wednesday, February 7th. Times available. Normally, there'd be an app there. It could have been my calendar's app, but you see, it said the thing, but if I scroll to the right, it tells me no more events. Okay. So, I'm still not in no application. It's still within that widget area that we put there. Can we swipe more? Thursday. February 8th. It's going to tell me some events for tomorrow. Let's swipe to the right so you can get a quick glance. Oh, my gosh. Give me a second. I jumped to the bottom. Events tonight. Thursday. Reminders. Calendar. Thursday. February 8th. Actions event. Thursday. February 8th. It's actually not showing me. February 7th. Okay. So, let me give me a second. Search. Page 1 of 11 and page 2 of page, page, page, page, page 7 of 11, page 9 of 11, page 10 of 11. Offer up. Doubles have to open. Let me see. Page 9 of 11. Facebook. Double dates. Have to. Here I have it. I have a Facebook open one. I'm about to check my calendars. I'm sorry about that, guys. But I actually do have a schedule filled right there. But I wanted to show you guys how, let's say it would have said Thursday, it would have said meeting, like tomorrow I have Wayfinders, it would have said Wayfinders time and to what time. And then it would have told me probably my next event. Actually, I have another thing I have to attend to in the afternoon. It would have had it there. And then I would have swiped to the right. It would have said Friday. And what is on Friday? Blind dating game. And it would have been right there in my calendar event, on my widget, on my home screen without needing to go into my calendars and look day by day, select and swipe and do all these. It's just there, you know. It's just there. That's the ease of use is what we're trying to get to is what I like to do is like to speed through things. Oh, sorry about that. All right. Oh, Blind United Interest Groups. Hello, all. We have one interest group for Wednesday, June 6th, slash 7, slash 24 on Zoom. Copy time with Blind United. If you say at 9 a.m. PST, then you can join us live on. And that's a post within the interest groups, Blind United, that Ed has posted or posted online. All right. So, we're going to explore this Facebook widget very fast. Just to get a quick overview on the type of information we can get from a widget. All right. So, we're going to explore this Facebook widget very fast. All right. And that's a post within the interest groups, Blind United, that Ed has posted or a moderator in the interest groups. Even the latest updates, let's say, for a group that you join or you might be interacting with will show up right there, and things like that, even friend requests will show up there. So, we'll swipe one more. That's a small widget of Facebook that I got. And it just shows those two. This one is not interactive, so I cannot interact with that. But you could click any of those two, and it would jump into Facebook to that location. And what I'm meaning that they're not interactive is that we don't have, you know, we don't have the ability to interact with them. So, I'm going to click on that. And I'm going to click on that. And I'm going to click on that. And I'm going to click on that. And I'm going to click on that. And I'm going to click on that. And I'm going to click on that. And I'm going to click on that. And I'm going to click on that. And I'm going to click on that. And I'm going to click on that. And I'm going to click on that. And I'm going to click on that. And I'm going to click on that. And I'm going to click on that. And I'm going to click on that. And I'm going to click on that. And I'm going to click on that. So, some do. I'm going to show. But that's just the information that this Facebook widget is giving me. And I hope I haven't lost some of you guys. Okay. So, it's different than an application icon. This is a widget that displays information. So, right now I'm going to go add a widget. I'm going to add an Outlook widget. But I'm going to also run through the quick list of different widgets that you guys can add to your iPhone pages. So, I am going to start editing the pages. Edit. Okay. Once they're on edit mode, if you navigate to the first item on the screen with a four-finger tap or you explore on the very top, you will hit the button. Add widget. I'm not going to explore this right here because it's just my applications ready to edit. But I'm just going to jump into the widget. Add widget. Okay. Now we're in our widget. And these are suggested right here. So, on the first list, the first heading is that we use suggested widgets. Okay. We're going to start from the top left. And the very first item will be the search field. And we're going to swipe to the right just to explore our widgets. And then I'm going to run through the list of widgets that I can install right here. These are recommended lists just so you can get a quick glance, guys, on what we can do with these widgets. All right. So, I'm going to go ahead and click on my widget. And I'm going to click on my widget. And I'm going to click on my widget. And I'm going to click on my widget. And I'm going to click on my widget. And I'm going to click on my widget. And I'm going to click on my widget. And I'm going to click on my widget. And I'm going to click on my widget.
