1 Peter chapter 1, and we'll come down to verse 3. Okay, and what we're going to talk about tonight is the fact that Christians have a living hope, and the object of hope is the eternal inheritance reserved in heaven. And this is what Peter begins to talk about, starting at verse 3, after that he has already established in the opening words of this epistle that salvation is made possible by the combined work of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Peter now introduces the keynote to this epistle, and it's called, Lively Hope. Because this hope is living, it is real, it is active. This hope looks forward to a future inheritance that had been predicted in the past, and in the present gives cures to persevere. Okay, so could our first reader read 1 Peter chapter 1, verses 1 through 5. 1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the pilgrims of the dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ. Grace to you and peace be now supplied. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled, and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation, ready to be revealed in the last times. Alright, so Peter just drops a bombshell as he opens this epistle, and he continues to go on and on and drop bombshell after bombshell, so he lets the Christians know that Christians have a living hope, alright, and the object of the Christian hope is the eternal inheritance reserved in heaven, alright, and this hope it looks forward to a future inheritance that had been predicted in the past, and in the present it gives Christians courage to persevere. This is what the writer of Hebrews was talking about, and I want to jump over to Hebrews and give y'all an example.
