SCRIPTURES USED IN LESSON 6/1/2024 (Ephesians 2:8 NKJV) For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, (Ephesians 2:9 NKJV) not of works, lest anyone should boast. (Ephesians 2:1 NKJV) And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, (Ephesians 2:2 NKJV) in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, (Ephesians 2:3 NKJV) among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. (Ephesians 2:4 NKJV) But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, (Ephesians 2:5 NKJV) even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), (Ephesians 2:6 NKJV) and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, (Ephesians 2:7 NKJV) that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. (Ephesians 2:8 NKJV) For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, (Ephesians 2:9 NKJV) not of works, lest anyone should boast. (Ephesians 2:10 NKJV) For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. (John 5:39 NKJV) You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. (John 5:40 NKJV) But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life. (John 5:41 NKJV) "I do not receive honor from men. (John 5:42 NKJV) But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you. (John 5:43 NKJV) I have come in My Father's name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive. (John 5:44 NKJV) How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God? (John 5:45 NKJV) Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; there is one who accuses you—Moses, in whom you trust. (John 5:46 NKJV) For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me. (John 5:47 NKJV) But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?" (Acts 22:3 NKJV) "I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, taught according to the strictness of our fathers' law, and was zealous toward God as you all are today. (Acts 22:4 NKJV) I persecuted this Way to the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women, (Romans 10:2 NKJV) For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. (Romans 10:3 NKJV) For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. (Matthew 7:21 NKJV) "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. (Matthew 7:22 NKJV) Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' (Matthew 7:23 NKJV) And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!' (Hebrews 5:9 NKJV) And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, (Matthew 18:3 NKJV) and said, "Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 18:4 NKJV) Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 19:14 NKJV) But Jesus said, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 5:3 NKJV) "Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 7:7 NKJV) "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. (Matthew 7:8 NKJV) For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. (Romans 10:2 NKJV) For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. (Romans 10:3 NKJV) For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God. (John 7:17 NKJV) If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority. (Acts 17:11 NKJV) These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so. (James 4:6 NKJV) But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "GOD RESISTS THE PROUD, BUT GIVES GRACE TO THE HUMBLE." (John 6:45 NKJV) It is written in the prophets, 'AND THEY SHALL ALL BE TAUGHT BY GOD.' Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me. (Matthew 7:24 NKJV) "Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: (Matthew 13:23 NKJV) But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty." (Matthew 13:18 NKJV) "Therefore hear the parable of the sower: (Matthew 13:19 NKJV) When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside. (Matthew 13:20 NKJV) But he who received the seed on stony places, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; (Matthew 13:21 NKJV) yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. (Matthew 13:22 NKJV) Now he who received seed among the thorns is he who hears the word, and the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. (Matthew 13:23 NKJV) But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty." (Matthew 13:24 NKJV) Another parable He put forth to them, saying: "The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; (Matthew 13:25 NKJV) but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. (Matthew 13:26 NKJV) But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. (Matthew 13:27 NKJV) So the servants of the owner came and said to him, 'Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?' (Matthew 13:28 NKJV) He said to them, 'An enemy has done this.' The servants said to him, 'Do you want us then to go and gather them up?' (Matthew 13:29 NKJV) But he said, 'No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. (Matthew 13:30 NKJV) Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, "First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn." ' " (Acts 2:37 NKJV) Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" (Acts 2:38 NKJV) Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:39 NKJV) For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call." (Acts 2:40 NKJV) And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, "Be saved from this perverse generation." (Acts 2:41 NKJV) Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. (Romans 10:17 NKJV) So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (John 3:16 NKJV) For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (Acts 16:31 NKJV) So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household." (Acts 16:30 NKJV) And he brought them out and said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?" (Acts 16:31 NKJV) So they said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household." (Acts 16:32 NKJV) Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. (Acts 16:33 NKJV) And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized. (Acts 16:34 NKJV) Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household. (Romans 11:6 NKJV) And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work. (Hebrews 11:6 NKJV) But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (Romans 5:1 NKJV) Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, (Romans 10:9 NKJV) that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:10 NKJV) For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Luke 13:3 NKJV) I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. (Acts 2:38 NKJV) Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 17:30 NKJV) Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, (Acts 3:19 NKJV) Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, (Luke 9:23 NKJV) Then He said to them all, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. (Matthew 28:18 NKJV) And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. (Matthew 28:19 NKJV) Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, (Matthew 28:20 NKJV) teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." Amen. (Acts 19:5 NKJV) When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. (Acts 8:12 NKJV) But when they believed Philip as he preached the things concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, both men and women were baptized. (Acts 22:16 NKJV) And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.' (1 John 1:7 NKJV) But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1:8 NKJV) If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. (1 John 1:9 NKJV) If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:10 NKJV) If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. AI Generated Summary, there may be mistakes. And so tonight, we want to continue with a lesson about salvation, because on last night we spoke about how that a person can purify their souls in obedience to God's Word by learning God's Word and being obedient to what's revealed in God's Word for salvation. And in doing so, we purify our souls in obedience to the truth. But when we obey God's Word, we obey a pattern of teaching that is revealed in the Bible. And we spoke about that pattern on last night, but tonight we want to bring the pattern out a little more. So we're going to start from an aspect of looking at salvation as a whole. We know that it is God's plan and it is by His grace, and it's not anything that we can work for or earn. Let's look at Ephesians chapter 2, verses 8 and 9. Tricia? Okay. 2, 8 and 9. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. All right. So it is by faith that, it is by grace that God elicited the plan of salvation before the foundation of the world, before the first man was ever created, before the foundations of the world was laid, God had already purposed to bring everybody to Himself in Christ. And it is by grace that God did this, okay? It is His unmerited favor, His love towards mankind. And we, when we reach the age of accountability and we come to the knowledge of right and wrong, and we decide to sin against God, then that separates us from God, okay? And we can never earn our way back into God's presence. Why? That's because God is too high, too holy, and too pure, and we as human beings, we are too sinful, okay? But thanks be to God that He did the work to earn our salvation as we see in Ephesians chapter 2, verses 8 and 9, okay? And let's understand about the gift of salvation. You have one minute remaining. Like any other gift, the gift of salvation must be accepted. And that's what we're going to start talking about when I chime back in, okay? We're going to understand how to accept God's free gift of salvation. Thank you for using Global Telling. Pat, would you go back to Ephesians 2, verse 1, and just read all the way until Charles calls back? Okay. And you He made alive who were dead in trespasses and sins, in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others. But God who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ. By grace you have been saved and raised us up together and made us fit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. All right. So, we see here, as I was stating that, God did the work to make salvation available for all men and women. Now, this is His free gift that comes by grace, as we've seen in Ephesians 2, verses 8 and 9. But like any other gift, the gift of salvation must be accepted. And I want to make something very clear there. We as human beings, no person who walks this earth, I don't care how ever sincere we are, none of us can make up our own way of accepting God's free gift. And if we look to the scriptures, we can see that there'll be many sincere religious people who have been lost. Let's look at John chapter 5, verses 39 through 47. Yeshiva? You search the scripture because you think you give eternal life, but the scripture points to me. Yet you refuse to come to me to receive this life. You approve means nothing to me because I know you don't have God's love with you. For I have come to you in my Father's name and you have rejected me. Yet if others come in their own name, you gladly welcome them. Now, no wonder you can't believe, for you gladly honor each other, but you don't care about the honor that comes from the one who only is God. Yet it isn't I who will accuse you before your Father. Moses will accuse you. Yes, Moses. In him you put your hopes. If you really believe Moses, you will believe me because he wrote about me. But since you don't believe that he wrote what he wrote, how will you believe what I say? All right, so Jesus speaks about bear witness, all right? Bear witness of Jesus. This is the chapter. And he tells the Jews about the witness that's there about him. Scripture, bear witness of Christ. The Father, bear witness of Christ. Moses, who the Jews looked it up to, bear witness of Christ. He spoke about Christ and how that Christ would come. But they rejected the Christ when he came. Now, these was very religious people, the Jews, but they was lost, okay? They had a sincere love for the Lord. They had a zeal for God, but they were lost. And the same with the Apostle Paul before he was converted. Let's look at Acts chapter 22, verses 3 and 4. And Paul lets us know this. I am indeed a Jew, born in Taurus of Assyria, but brought up in the city at the feet of Gamaliel, taught according to the strictness of our Father's law, and zealous toward God as you all are today. I persecuted this way to the death, binding and delivering them to prison, both men and women. All right, so we see Paul, as he's locked up in Jerusalem, he goes to recount his old childhood about his birthplace and how he came up under a man that was well looked it up to by these individuals, which is Gamaliel. And he's the same one that stood up and spoke when they was trying to persecute the Apostle and he said, be careful what y'all do concerning these men. And Paul was taught by Gamaliel, but he also lets them know about his former life and his devotion to the Lord Moses as a faithful Jew. He persecuted Christians. He was persecuting Jesus' followers. He was sincere in his zeal towards God. He was religious and zealous, but he was lost. He thought that he was doing what God wanted, but he wasn't. Let's read Romans chapter 10, verses 2 and 3. This is one of my favorite scripts to go to when we're talking about to infill people who are actually lost. Let's read Romans chapter 10, verses 2 and 3. John, for I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge, for being ignorant of the righteousness of God and seeking to establish their own. They did not submit to God's righteousness. So let's notice what Paul states about Israel, his people. He says, for I bear them record, which means I bear them witness that they have a zeal of God. That word zeal means he bears them witness that they have a strong love for God. But notice what he says next, but not according to knowledge, okay? And we know a lot of sincere people who are very religious and they have a strong love for God and we can't deny, but it's not according to knowledge, okay? And then verse 3 states, for they being ignorant of God's righteousness. That word ignorant means not knowing. For they not knowing God's righteousness, what they have done. Paul states they're going about to establish their own righteousness. They try to come up with their own way to get right with God, but it don't work that way. Paul stated they have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. So Paul's saying they ain't poor in spirit. They ain't humble themselves before God becoming like little children being willing to learn. But they went about to establish their own ways of trying to be right with God, but we can't do that. And Jesus warned that many who expect to be saved by him will be rejected. Why? Because they follow their own way to salvation instead of God's. Matthew 7, verses 21 through 23. Matthew 7, you said 21 through 23? Okay. Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name, cast out demons in your name, and done many wonders in your name? And then I would declare to them, I never knew you. Depart from me. Use me for practice knowledge. All right. So we see that Jesus stated that there will be many who expect to be saved by him, but they will be rejected by him, actually, because they follow their own way to salvation. All right. So in this matter, we see that as in all matters, Jesus is still Lord, God is still God. And since God is the one who forgives sins, people can only receive a free gift of forgiveness his way. That's where Hebrews 5, 9. Yeshiva. Hebrews 5, 9. In this way, God qualified him as a perfect high priest and become the source of eternal salvation for all those who obey him. So Jesus, being made perfect, became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him. Not everybody obeys Christ. And some people are really zillious towards God, but they have not submitted themselves to the righteousness of God. But in the New Testament, Jesus has clearly shown us how people receive the free gift of his forgiveness. And we want to look at the pattern. And I want y'all to be great Bibles tonight. And I want y'all to get a pencil and some paper or anything, the way that you can remember this, because I'm going to lay it out like a pattern. Because that's what it is. It is a form of teaching that we obey. Okay? So at the top of your list, I want you to put, become like little children. Humble yourself before God, being willing to learn. And this is what Jesus taught. So this is the first step of obeying this pattern. Let's look at Matthew chapter 18 verses 3 and 4. Okay, who's next? Sam? Yeah. Okay. Matthew chapter 18, uh, 34? Verses 3 and 4. 3 and 4. Okay. And said, assuredly, I say it to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no mean enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. So the disciples came unto Jesus and they were asking, uh, who is the greatest in the kingdom? And Jesus told them that the example of a little child represents the character of one who will be the greatest in his kingdom. And this, a child is characterized by humility. They're teachable. If you ever noticed when you, when you was young, your mother and your grandmother probably had to tell you, boy, girl, go on in there while grown people talking. Get out of our mouths. Why? Because a child will sit there and look in your mouth and listen to every single word you say and will actually repeat it. Sometimes when kids do things, they'll have to ask, have you been doing such and such around this child? Because he's picking this behavior from somewhere. So a child is characterized by humility. They'll teach you. And Jesus gives this statement for us to become humble before God, being willing to learn from him as a little child. Okay. And be converted. This is the first step of the pattern of being converted. Let's read also Matthew 19, 14. Matthew 19, 14. For Jesus said, let the little children come to me and do not hinder them. For to such belongs the kingdom of heaven. Amen. Humility has to characterize us. All right. When we are trying to be sincere and learn God's word, and that's the same as saying what Jesus said in Matthew 5, verse 3. Let's look at Matthew 5, 3. John, blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. So, not long ago we had a study in Luke chapter 6 where we did the four positive attitudes and the four corresponding woes. And we talked a lot about what it means to be poor in spirit. This describes a person who is broken and contrite. He is humble before God. He's willing to learn. His soul is crying out and thirsting after God. Amen. This is a person who is poor in spirit. It is the opposite of the proud, and arrogant, and those who are puffed up, and unteached. Jesus said, seek and you will find. Knock and it will be opened unto you. So, a person who is poor in spirit, they humble themselves before God. And they try to learn the righteousness of God. They don't want to be like the Israel that Paul had wrote and spoke about in Romans chapter 10, verses 2 and 3, where he said that they were ignorant of God's righteousness. And they had went about to establish a righteousness of their own and submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. That don't describe people who are poor in spirit. Let's read John 7, 17. Did you say me, Mike? Yes, John 7, 17. What is it again? Sorry. John 7, 17. John 7, 17. If anyone's will is to do God's, will he know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking of my own authority? So, Jesus said, if anybody decides to do the Father's will, that they should know concerning the teaching that he gives, whether he's speaking the very words of his Father or whether he's just speaking some on his own authority. All right. And we can know that, too, when a person speaks, if we'll be like those in Berea, if we will search the Scripture to see whether or not the things they are teaching are so. Let's read James 4, verse 6. James 4, verse 6. For he gives more grace. Therefore, it says God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble. All right. So, we see that God looks down with favor on the humble spirit. So, that's why Jesus taught that we have to become like little children, which means we've got to be humbling ourselves before God being willing to learn. But after that we have become like little children and we have humbled ourselves before God being willing to learn, we have to listen. And that is listen to what? To the message of Christ. Okay? Because the next thing a person will have to do is believe after they have heard. And how could you believe something you ain't even heard? You ain't even listened to it. So, we understand that after you humble yourself, you have to listen. So, for the next part of your paper, I want you to write listen. And that is listen to the message of Christ. Let's read John, chapter 6, verse 45. Okay, John 6, verse 45. It is written in the prophets, and they shall all be taught by God. Therefore, everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me. Pay attention now, y'all. Pay attention now. We're learning patterns. The word for tonight is pattern. We're learning patterns. Pay attention to how many times you're going to see, hear, or heard, or listened. You've got to listen. You've got to hear. Jesus even taught us there, be careful how you hear. Okay, so here we see in this particular scripture, Jesus said, it is written in the prophets, and they shall be all taught of God. Every man, therefore, that hath heard and hath learned of the Father cometh unto me. So, you've got to hear in order to even come unto Jesus, because how could you come unto him if you haven't even heard about him, or who he is, or what he's done? Okay? So, now let's look at Matthew, chapter 7, verse 24. Let's pay attention for listening, hearing, you know. Matthew 7, 24. John? Therefore, whoever... Okay, go ahead. Therefore, whoever hears these sayings of mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock. You have one minute remaining. So, Jesus stated that, whosoever hear these sayings of his, and do them, he will liken them unto a wise man who built their house upon a rock. All right. So, we understand that. All right. So, we understand that you've got to listen and obey. So, Christ said, you've got to hear. Okay? So, we see that we have to listen to the message of Christ. Let's also read Matthew, chapter 13, verse 23. Okay. The seed that falls on the good soil represent those who truly hear and understand God's words and produce a harvest of 36 and even 100 times as much as he has planted. Thank you for using Global Telling. Okay, Todd. You see the break in the parable there? That's the parable of the sower. Did you read that? You want me to back up? Yeah, back up and start reading. Okay. Now, listen to the explanation of this parable about the farmers planting seeds. The seeds that fell on the footpaths represent those who hear the message about the kingdom and don't understand it. The evil one comes and snatches away the seed that was planted in their heart. The seeds on the rocky shore represent those who hear the message and immediately receive it with joy. But since they don't have deep roots, they don't last long. They all fall away as soon as they have problems or either persecution from believing God's word. The seed that falls among the thorns represent those who hear God's words, but all too quickly the message is crowded out by the worries of the dislike and the lure of wealth. And so no fruits is produced. The seeds that fall on good soil represent those who truly hear and understand God's words and produce the harvest of 36 or even 100 times as much as had been planted. Here is another story Jesus told the kingdom of heaven about a farmer who planted good seeds in his field. But that night as the worker slept, his enemy came and planted weeds among the wheat, then slipped away. Thank you for using global telling when the crop began to grow. He was on, Mike, but I guess we couldn't hear him. When the crops began to grow and produce grain, the wheat also grew. The farmer workers went to him and said, Sir, the field where you planted that good seed is full of weeds. Where did they come from? An enemy has done this. Okay, y'all hear me now? Yes. All right. So we see here this pattern of teaching that's emerging in the gospel. We see that we have to humble ourselves before God and be willing to learn, but we also have to listen to the message of Christ. And let's look at Acts chapter 2, verses 37 through 41. Okay. Okay. Okay. Then I get out. 41. Okay. Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, Men and brethrens, what shall we do? Then Peter said to them, Repent and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and you shall receive a gift to the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children and to all who are far off as many as the Lord our God will call. And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, Be saved from this perverse generation. Then those who gladly received his words were baptized, and that day about 3,000 souls were added to them. Now there's so much in this account about conversion that we can point out, but we're not going to get straight to that part right now because we're going to round back on it when we get off and beat the paws of this pattern. But the key thing that I wanted y'all to see was in verse 37, after Peter preached the first gospel sermon, it stated about those who had believed, it stated, Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Just in that one scripture alone we see the pattern emerge several times in that one scripture. But what I want y'all to pay attention to is they had to hear first. They heard. They had to listen. Okay? And that's just like Romans 10, 17 states, So their faith come by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Okay? So we have to hear. But we also have to believe, that is, believe in God and his son, and we know what John 3, 16 states. So let's read John 3, 16. So they'll take this scripture alone and whoop you upside the head with it until you look. All you got to do is believe and you're saved. Well, you got to look at the whole teaching on salvation. You got to go to all the teachers about salvation in the New Testament to put this pattern together. Okay? And if we look at Acts chapter 16 verse 31, it states that, and they said, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved and thy house. So this is the conversion of the Philippian jailer with Paul and Silas. Now Jailer asked, what must he do to be saved? And what we have recorded in verse 31, it stated that Paul and Silas told him to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and he will be saved. But not only him, but they told all who was in his household to believe as well. Okay? But as we continue through this context, it stated that in verse 32, it stated, they spake unto him the word of the Lord unto all that were in his house and he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes and was baptized. He in all hills straightway, verse 34, and when he had brought them into his house, he said, lead before them and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house. So we understand that you have to believe, alright? You have to believe. It's no secret that one has to believe. Let's also read Romans chapter 11, verse 6. John, but if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of words. Otherwise, grace would no longer be grace. Hebrews 11, 6. That was Romans 11. Hebrews 11, 6. And without faith, it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and he rewards those who seek him. Alright, so we must believe as we see in the scriptures. We must believe. Also, Romans 5, 1. Okay, therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. So we are justified by faith and that is by obeying and applying the obedient deeds of such faith. Alright, and we are not only will have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ which is the same as saying in our Lord Jesus Christ. So by obeying this pattern of teaching, this puts one into Christ and this is the time when you will make peace with God. So if a person hasn't obeyed this pattern that's emerging, then you haven't made peace with God. Okay, but not only do we have to believe, we have to confess. We have to have faith in Jesus as Lord that is ruler over all. And we, it's very familiar with Romans chapter 10 verses 9 and 10. Let's read this one. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. Alright, so we see the pattern here. People would take this particular context and whoop you upside the head. And when I was being taught the gospel, my brother in Christ, he told me, look, it ain't but a few verses in the Bible that everybody used to justify themselves for the salvation experience they have. If you can learn the gospel and be able to explain these few verses, you will help a lot of people. So here is one particular context where they use and say, look, all you got to do is believe and all you got to do is confess and you're saved. So this is why they make you come and say the sinner's prayer and raise your hand and pray with them and tell you, look, you're saved. The moment you accept Christ into your heart. But this is not what that context is teaching. This context is preaching you the gospel. The same gospel that Jesus preached. It is the pattern that emerges to hear, believe, confess, repent, be baptized. Alright? If you will continue on through this context, more of the pattern emerges. So we see confession and believing right here in verses 9 and 10 which is a part of this pattern of teaching that we obey when we become Christians. But we also have to repent. And this means making the firm decision to turn to God and away from sin. Let's read Luke 13-3. Tim? Alright. I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. So Jesus stated that unless you repent that just like the people that perish, y'all too likewise don't perish. But he wasn't talking about just a physical death. He was talking about this eternal separation from God. That all men are required to repent. And that's why in Acts 2-38 when Peter preached that first gospel sermon and told them that they murdered the Christ they asked, what shall we do? The first thing Peter said unto them was, repent because repentance precedes baptism. You don't baptize then repent. No, you repent then be baptized. This is the pattern, people. Peter said repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ which means you have been baptized by Christ's authority because Christ said so and Christ said this is the only, by the only means which he will forgive sin is in baptism after that you have repented. Okay? So you must repent. And also we see that Acts chapter 17 verse 30 states that the time of this ignorance and the times of this ignorance God winked at but now commanded all men everywhere to repent. So repentance is a part of salvation. It's a command. So who is you to tell me that well Charles all you got to do is believe. No all I got to do is obey this pattern of teaching that I see being taught in the Bible. That's what I got to do. I got to accept God's free gift of grace his way because he is the only one who can forgive sin and repentance is necessary. But also in Acts chapter 3 verse 19 it states repent therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out. So we see the blotting out of sins don't come until after that you have repented. It comes in conversion when your sins is washed away. When you have been united with Christ in his death, burial, resurrection and baptism after that you have become humble like little children before God being willing to learn. You have listened to the message of Christ. You have believed in God and in his son Jesus Christ and you confess that faith in Jesus Lord that is ruler over all and you also have made the firm decision to turn to God and away from sins for you have repented. But notice that repentance should continue to be a daily decision even after becoming a Christian. Let's look at Luke chapter 9 verse 23 and we get ready to bring it to a close y'all. Luke 9 23 states and he says to them all if any man will come after me let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. So Jesus said a disciple of the Lord have to do what he did in baptism daily. He have to deny himself. He had to declare to himself that he is dead to his old life of sin and folly and going astray from God. But not only that when a person make the firm decision in their heart to repent they still have sins that need to be washed away. They have to be baptized in water and to the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. And this is the same as saying I'm being baptized because it is commanded by God. This is on his authority. This is the only way my sins will be forgiven. God commanded that I be baptized for my sins to be remitted. And that's why Jesus stated what he stated in Matthew 28 verses 18 through 20. Okay. It states, And Jesus came and spake unto them. And I want you all to know that this is the resurrected Jesus after he had risen from the dead. This is the risen Christ appearing to the eleven apostles because Judas had betrayed him. So it was only eleven at this time. And it states in the start of verse 18 in Matthew 28. It stated Jesus came and spake unto them all power. Now that word power is authority right here in this verse. All authority is given unto me in heaven and in earth. So let's stop right here first. If Jesus say he have all authority how much authority do we have? None. Okay. Then verse 19 states, Go ye therefore and teach all nations, which is the same as saying make disciples of all nations. But notice what this would include. Baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. So they will be making disciples of all nations. They will be doing this by baptizing. But Jesus states in verse 20 teaching them. So they also will be teaching them. So this will be like an evangelistic work as we see. They will be baptizing and teaching them. Teaching them what? Do I teach them what my mama taught me? My grandmama? What my church teach for the means of salvation? Or do I teach them to observe all things whatsoever Christ have commanded the apostles? As it states in verse 20. Christ say teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded and lo I will always. Even up to the end of the world. Amen. Amen. And also we read Acts chapter 19 verse 5. This is what it states. It states when they heard this Pay attention. Now they heard remember that part of the pattern about hearing which comes before believing. Now when they heard this they were baptized in the name of the Lord. See that same pattern emerges. Now when you look through the book of Acts and you look at different conversions you don't get the whole pattern in one conversion. Sometimes you may even get a chart of the pattern. Sometimes you may be able to look at the salvation account and see where a person humbled themselves and they heard they believed and they confessed but it might not say nowhere that they repented. But if I go look at another account and see what was taught I can see where the people was told to repent but I can also see that they was baptized. So once I see this I understand and I know what form that is what pattern of teaching they are obeying because I can put all the accounts together and guess what I get when I put all the accounts together. I see that they hear, believe, confess, repent and be baptized. This is what I see. And they do this and they are being baptized in order to receive forgiveness of sin and the gift of the Holy Ghost. Now don't get it twisted the gift of the Holy Ghost that I'm talking about ain't the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that I'm mentioning but I'm talking about they receive this is the gift that the Holy Ghost offers. Okay? Let's read back over here Acts chapter 8 verse 12 we have two more snippets before we close out. Acts chapter 8 verse 12 states but when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God in the name of Jesus Christ they were baptized both men and women. So we see the pattern here again now when they believed Philip preaching so we see that they believed and what they believed the preaching of Philip so they heard okay? And what did they hear about? The kingdom of God. Now what consists of preaching the kingdom of God? It states the name of Jesus Christ and baptism. We know that these things are a part of preaching Christ. Preaching about Christ and his authority. About how that he's a king and he has a kingdom and that he's the author of eternal salvation for all who obey him. And that you need to be baptized for the remission of sins by Christ's authority. I didn't say you need to be baptized to become a member of First Peter M.B. Church. No I said you need to be baptized for the remission of sins and not I but that's what Christ stated. That's the pattern that we see in the Bible. Okay? But if we look at Paul over in Acts chapter 22 verse 16 we need to understand something. That even though Paul had encountered the Lord he had a... You have one minute remaining. He had a vision. He was blinded. He fasted and prayed. But yet it's still the disciple of the Lord told Paul and now why tarryst thou? Arise and be baptized and wash away thy sins calling on the name of the Lord. So we see Paul was told to be baptized in order to have his sins washed away. So even though he had these miraculous encounters and he prayed and fasted and received his sight again he still had sins that need to be washed away by no other way than water, baptism by Jesus' authority for the remission of sins. Okay? But we also need to be faithful to Jesus and his people because our new life and Christ's are turning together. And I just want to read 1 John chapter 1 verses 7 through 10 and close out for the night. So read up for us. Thank you for using Global Telling. Patricia. 1 John chapter 1 7 through 10. Yeah. But if we walk in the light as he is in the light we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus Christ his son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned we make him a liar and his word is not in us.
