Bailén

"Bailén" is the fourth novel in the first series of "Episodios Nacionales" by Benito Pérez Galdós. Set in Spain during the French occupation, the story follows Gabriel de Araceli, a young man from Cadiz, who frees Inés from her captivity with the Requejo brothers. However, they are both captured by the French troops when the people of Madrid rise up against the invaders. The previous novel ended with Gabriel facing a firing squad, and his last thoughts are dedicated to his beloved Inés. Will Juan de Dios, an employee of the Requejo brothers, be able to marry Inés? What has become of Inés' uncles? This novel is part of a larger series that explores various historical events and battles during the Napoleonic era in Spain.
