Welcome to Believe Together, a Churches Together in Cainchum, Saltonwood production for KTCRFM 105.8 and online. Thank you for joining us. We hope that you are enjoying the ride. I know that you are so much more than what I leave behind. I know that I am loved. I know that I can save. Cause even in the fire to live is Christ, to die is pain. I know that you are good. I don't understand the sorrow, but you're calm within a storm. Sometimes this weight is overwhelming, but I don't carry it alone. You're still close when I can't feel you. I don't have to be afraid. And though my eyes have never seen you, I've seen enough to say. I know that you are good. I know that you are kind. I know that you are so much more than what I leave behind. I know that I am loved. I know that I can save. Cause even in the fire to live is Christ, to die is pain. I know that you are good. You are good. I know. On my darkest day, from my deepest pain. Through it all my heart would choose to sing your praise. On my darkest day, from my deepest pain. Through it all my heart would choose to sing your praise. On my darkest day, from my deepest pain. Through it all my heart would choose to sing your praise. I know that you are good. I know that you are kind. I know that you are so much more than what I leave behind. I know that I am loved. I know that I can save. Cause even in the fire to live is Christ, to die is pain. I know that you are good. I know that you are good. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. I know. Hello again, Peter here with you. We've got an hour together now with Believe Together. Thank you to Big Daddy Weave for that excellent introduction to our show this week. That was called I Know. Maybe some of you feel very similar to Big Daddy Weave. Well, Jesus told us that we need faith like a child in a big God. And that's what he's been saying in that song. God doesn't want us to know everything or understand everything. He wants us to have a simple faith in a great God. Wasn't that a lovely way to introduce this week's show? Of course. Now, I'm Jenny and it's lovely to be back with you again this week. Well, I think we're going to get straight on with this week's quiz. We're still giving Celia a break from the Just for Fun quiz. Don't worry, she'll be back with you soon with some excellent quizzes, I'm sure. But these questions today, I think most of them have been taken from the show Impossible on the BBC TV. So, let's see what we've got now. Quiz question number one. Now, the 21st of September is the International Day of Peace. So, this first question is something to do with peace in a way. What do you think? The question is, which song written by Cole Porter rhymes Mahatma Gandhi with Napoleon Brandy? Now, Gandhi is most famous for his philosophy of non-violence that has inspired civil rights leaders around the world. Now, the three songs to choose from are You're the Top, You're Sensational and Anything Goes. Now, which one was it? Talking about the International Day of Peace, let's enjoy listening to Lauren Daigle. Here she is with Peace Be Still. Because I hear it all I don't wanna see the storm I don't wanna see the storm Peace be still Save the world and I will Stand my feet upon the sea Till I'm dancing in the sea Oh, peace be still Peace be still You are here to lead the world Even when my eyes can't see I will trust the voice that sings I'm not gonna be afraid These waves are on their way So, I'm not gonna be afraid I'm not gonna be afraid I'm not gonna fear the storm For I pray there's an answer, oh yeah I'm not gonna fear the storm Oh, I'm not gonna fear it all, yeah Peace be still Save the world and I will Stand my feet upon the sea Till I'm dancing in the sea Oh, peace be still You are here to save the world Even when my eyes can't see I will trust the voice that sings Peace Peace, yeah Oh, yeah Oh, Jesus May it be so Let faith rise up, oh heart Believe, let faith rise up in me Let faith rise up, oh heart Believe, let faith rise up in me Peace be still Save the world and I will Stand my feet upon the sea Till I'm dancing in the sea Oh, peace be still You are here to save the world Even when my eyes can't see I will trust the voice that sings Peace Peace, yeah Oh, yeah Peace, yeah Peace, yeah Oh, yeah Peace Peace Peace And now, for the Thought for the Week for the Keynsham Talking Newspaper Going Cycling Hello, it's John Hayes, the Methodist Minister in Keynsham and it's good to be with you again Cycling has always been part of my life Like many, when I was young, I learnt to ride I remember that my dad had an old gent's upright bike We had an alleyway from front to the back of the house and I learnt to ride on my tiptoes on the pedals down the alley before I ventured out, no doubt much to my parents' horror onto the paths and roads Since then, I've always had a bike but not always used it a lot Now I have two bikes, one for the road and one for the paths Although with the state of many of our roads the path bike is generally the one that's ridden When I go cycling, I do like to see the views around looking at God's wonderful creation You also can feel the air, sometimes pleasantly cooling sometimes blowing hard in your face which reminds me that over a 30 mile bike ride it will mean a few challenges, a few ups and some downs The hills can be steep You learn to love the hills that have a nice shallow gradient as opposed to those that are very steep and sometimes it can be uncomfortable Most modern bike saddles aren't really built for comfort I have also learnt some techniques to help with some of the challenges When I go up long hills, I will count in my head for each rotation of the pedal For some reason, I count to eight and then start again Who knows why eight, but it works for me Sometimes when things are tough we need a bit of distraction or something familiar to get through Of course, as a cyclist you know that you are not top of the food chain when it comes to road users coming a long way behind lorries, buses, cars and motorbikes This means that you have to be constantly aware of other road users Sometimes I think there are echoes of our lives in cycling The challenges, dealing with discomfort and pain keeping careful watch for others around you In fact, when you analyse it, you might ask Why? Why do I go cycling? But my experience in cycling has helped me to appreciate more of God's creation It's provided some exhilarating times and helped me to learn about my own mind and body For some of us, I think our lives of faith can help us to do something very similar And so God's creation and the creation we are called to care for and to be good stewards of is not something to be avoided but something that God wants us to be fully alive in Well, it's goodbye from me Grace and peace to you all We live in love and care For this the planet that we share We bear the image of our God And we are sharing in His mission So we will follow as we serve To see the healing of the earth As we wait for the dawning of the day When the King is coming We will live for His glory and His praise For in the victory of the cross We have a hope of reparation All things together under Christ All the flourishing of life So fill us up and lead us home To see the coming of your kingdom And we will labor as we sing Oh, we'll attend His talking As we wait for the dawning of the day When the King is coming We will live for His glory and His praise As we wait for the dawning of the day When the King is coming We will live for His glory and His praise Oh, we'll attend His talking As we wait for the dawning of the day When the King is coming We will live for His glory and His praise Oh, we'll attend His talking As we wait for the dawning of the day When the King is coming We will live for His glory and His praise As we wait for the dawning of the day When the King is coming We will live for His glory and His praise So fill us up and lead us home To see the coming of your kingdom And we will labor as we sing Oh, we'll attend His talking We will labor as we sing Oh, we'll attend His talking Thank you so much John for those thoughts And also for letting us hear We are the Tenants of the King Another track by Resound Worship Great Well it's time for our second quiz question In the Just for Fun quiz this week Right Saturday the 23rd of September At 7.49am in England Is called the Autumn Equinox OK That's a bit of useless information for us Now the question is this Which traditional name For a full moon Is given to the full moon Closest to the Autumn Equinox We've got three choices for you Is it the Harvest Moon The Hunter's Moon Or the Honeymoon I wonder Hmm Right Now here's my Leprosy Mission Diary Verse for the week It comes from One Peter Cast all your anxiety on Him Because He cares for you So Let's have a song that takes that verse I cast all my cares This comes from Maranatha Music I cast all my cares upon You I laid all of my burdens Down at Your feet And anytime I don't know What to do I will cast all my cares upon You I cast all my cares upon You I laid all of my burdens Down at Your feet And anytime I don't know What to do I will cast all my cares upon You I cast all of my cares upon You I laid all of my burdens Down at Your feet And anytime I don't know What to do I will cast all my cares upon You I will cast all my cares upon You I will cast all my cares upon You Remember folks, you're listening to The Lighter Show on KTCR-FM Top tunes, unique radio features Guaranteed to leave you feeling lighter Leave feeling lighter or your money back Barbra Streisand That's us, The Lighter Show Friday, 4pm We'll be seeing you You're listening to Believe Together A Churches Together and KHM and Salford production for KTCR-FM 105.8 and online Now we're already up to our third quiz question So how about this one which I did not get from the Impossible Programme The question is How old will Cliff Richard be this October? Earlier in this show we had a question about Cliff Richard or should I say Sir Cliff Richard So, last week you may remember that we mentioned that he has announced the release of an orchestral album that celebrates his 65th year in the music industry Wow, what a record! It's called Cliff With Strings subtitled, if you like, My Kinda Life comprises seven decades worth of hits including the songs Living Doll, Summer Holiday, We Don't Talk Anymore, and Suddenly with the late Newton John Well, let's have one of his very famous songs This is the one from the Millennium Based on the Lord's Prayer it's called The Millennium Prayer by Sir Cliff Richard Our Father who art in heaven Hallowed be thy name Thy kingdom come Thy will be done on earth as it is Give us today our daily bread and forgive ourselves as we forgive each one of those who sins against us And lead us not to the time of trial but deliver us from evil For thine is the kingdom the power and the glory Our Father who art in heaven Hallowed be thy name Thy kingdom come Thy will be done on earth as it is Give us today our daily bread and forgive ourselves as we forgive each one of those who sins against us And lead us not to the time of trial but deliver us from evil For thine is the kingdom the power and the glory Let all the people sing in exultation Let every heart be glad to hear the kingdom come Let every hope and every dream be full of joy and love Let all the world sing with one voice Let all the people sing Amen Instrumental Let all the people sing Let every heart be glad to hear the kingdom come Let every hope and every dream be full of joy and love Let all the world sing with one voice Let all the people sing Amen Amen, Amen, Amen Amen, Amen, Amen Amen, Amen, Amen Amen, Amen, Amen Well it was lovely to hear that again, thanks Cliff Now, back to our quiz It's time for the answers already Now do you remember that first question? It was Which song written by Cole Porter rhymes Mahatma Gandhi with Napoleon Brandy? Well, here's your answer You're the Top You're Mahatma Gandhi You're the Top You're Napoleon Brandy Yes, it was You're the Top A recording from 1935 there Now, did you get the question about the moon? Which one was it? The Harvest Moon? The Hunter's Moon? Or the Honeymoon? Well I wonder if any of you said Honeymoon I have to admit that I did not know that the correct answer is the Harvest Moon Right, well question number 3 How old will Cliff Richard be this October? 81, 82 or 83? Well apparently he's going to be 83 Wow Wow You're listening to Believe Together A Churches Together in Keynesham and Salford production The KTCR FM 105.8 and online Now recently I came across somewhere or other something very, very interesting about Alice in Wonderland I'm sure that most of you will have heard about Alice in Wonderland that book and I must have a copy of my own here somewhere from my childhood I'll have to see if I can find it Now I was reading all about it and because I read about it and it was so fascinating that led me to find out a bit more about the author Lewis Carroll wasn't it? So here are a few facts about Lewis Carroll first of all Now, well it wasn't just Alice in Wonderland that he wrote he also wrote Alice Through the Looking Glass I'm not sure if I've ever read that But Lewis Carroll was born Charles Lutwidge Dodgson in 1832 in Daresbury He was the first son among 11 children born to an Anglican clergyman and his wife He changed his name to maintain privacy in his personal life He suffered from all sorts of things He suffered from chronic migraines, epilepsy, stammering partial deafness and ADHD But he wrote 11 books on mathematics and 12 works of literary fiction He was also an illustrator, a poet and a photographer He was a very skilled person indeed He did become a deacon in the church but he did not want to become an ordained minister and preach I have discovered that his birthplace, Daresbury is in Cheshire which is a small picturesque village Fascinating it is that the stained glass window in All Saints Church there depicts characters from Alice in Wonderland It would be lovely to go and visit it wouldn't it Peter? Indeed Daresbury is thought to be unique as it possesses a name unconnected with any physical or geographical feature That's interesting Now one of the new hymns that would have been around in the days of Lewis Carroll and I'm sure he would have been singing in that village church is The Church's One Foundation written by S.J. Stone in 1866 Now of course that's a great hymn that many of us have enjoyed singing over the years Let's listen to it here brought to us from Chet Valley Churches Come let me take my shoulder To be before His eyes To see the blood He pours And all the life He drives Here let no man be made No man be made For the salvation Of the world Of the world And all the ages have passed And all the years have gone And who but God see precious With every faith and youth Though we must go on wander And see the sorrow pass By Jesus' great love father I've ever been His friend Yet since the watch are keeping The cry for love how long And soon the night of weeping Shall be the morn of song This silent tribulation Shall soon all hope and love Seek which the Lord shall give To hold me forevermore This is the day of joy This is the day of joy This is the day of joy This is the day of joy And who but God see precious With every faith and youth Though we must go on wander And see the sorrow pass By Jesus' great love father I've ever been His friend Yet since the watch are keeping The cry for love how long And soon the night of weeping Now back to the Alice in Wonderland story. What I read the other day was so interesting and I cannot say it all here today. I suggest you find out more yourself because I'm sure you'll be fascinated. Now apparently the Alice in Wonderland story people have said it means all sorts of things. You know why he wrote it. It's to do with drugs or all sorts of other things. But this person and I don't know who it is I've really tried hard to find out who the author is of this article I read but I don't know if it's a man or woman even. But I imagined it as being a woman writing this about Alice in Wonderland. So I might say she. Apologies if it's a man. Now I read it on seekingwonderland.org It is brilliant. Yes it could make for some very interesting Bible study times but wouldn't it also make a wonderful play? You read it and then you'll see what I mean. The article is a few pages long but it is very very readable. That's why I read it. So do have a look at it if you can on that website seekingwonderland.org Now this person it sort of suddenly came to her Alice in Wonderland it's a parable. Something similar to something else. And all she could see and everything in Alice in Wonderland from that moment was it was to do with God and people becoming Christians. So that's interesting isn't it? I certainly didn't think that when I first read Alice in Wonderland to be honest I didn't really know what it was all about. It's a crazy book. Right now I'll just mention a few of the characters in it but obviously she goes on about it a lot and brings all sorts of things into each aspect. But let's quickly go through some of the characters in the book. Alice, she is the child of God the one who seeks God's voice and his ways his kingdom which is found within you. Then there's the white rabbit. This is the Holy Spirit our guide and the bait that causes us to follow. Then there's Wonderland the kingdom of God. She says, No one knows when it's their time to fall into the rabbit hole and find Wonderland but when you do it's like jumping from a three-dimensional reality into a four-dimensional one or a ten-dimensional one. A new perspective enters your mind and you'll never be the same again. Then there's Hooker the Caterpillar I don't remember that name. He was sent by God to point Alice in the right direction. Now I do remember the name the Mad Hatter. The Mad Hatter and his friends made these stumbling blocks for Alice. Then of course there's the Cheshire Cat a strange but useful friend for Alice. He teaches Alice how things work in Wonderland. He warns Alice of the Red Queen He shows Alice the way out of the forest to the castle. The Red Queen represents the devil or the false church. Then there are the Playing Card Soldiers who represent weak people who don't think for themselves. So that's just a very quick sort of flick through some of the characters but the person who wrote this describes them in detail what they were there for and how that helps people to get to God and if we think about it in the right way it can help us too to get to God. So I just found it amazing. Please do have a look at the website and you will be amazed yourself I'm sure. And who's going to put on a play then, eh? Or do some Bible studies? Thank you Alice in Wonderland Thank you Lewis Carroll. Thank you Jenny for this. I'm excited about this new understanding and interpretation of Alice in Wonderland. Maybe we could have a look at this in our home group. Maybe one of our folk would like to do a Bible study on it. We'll see. Now, as usual, we'll put links to all of these odd bits of information about Alice in Wonderland on our Facebook page where we always put links to all the videos from all the music that we play and we're happy to do so. Some of the videos are really interesting. Now, we're going to be playing out today with This is Amazing Grace by Kathy Burton. But before then, it just remains for us to say goodbye and close with a blessing. Goodbye everybody. Hoping to join you again next week. Have a good week. And so we receive your blessing Father God and we pass this blessing of peace onto all of those struggling this week with Alzheimer's and those trying to treat them and look after them and care for them. And we do ask for your blessing of peace on all of those trying to bring peace in relationships internationally and personally throughout the world.
