Come on, get a drink! Come on, get a drink! Hallelujah! Jesus, we love you! Jesus, we praise you! We worship you, God, we love you! Your presence, we were made with your glory! So, Graham, happy birthday to you! Yes, happy birthday, Graham, and may you enjoy many of God's blessings in your next year. Now, many of you will have heard about John Wesley. He wrote many famous hymns, didn't he? And you probably heard all about how he became a Christian. But I'm just going to read out something here. Because last week, on the 24th of May, it was Wesley Day, also known as Aldersgate Day. A day which marks a significant event in John Wesley's life, which some people name as his conversion experience. So, on the 24th of May, 1738, John Wesley wrote in his journal that he went very unwillingly to a religious meeting in Aldersgate Street, London. During the meeting, at about 8.45pm, he felt his heart strangely warmed, and had a very powerful experience of knowing that he was loved by God in the power of the Holy Spirit. His faith changed from being an experience of the mind to an experience of the heart and soul. So that was good, wasn't it? 🎵Music🎵 🎵Holy Spirit, we welcome you. Holy Spirit, we welcome you. 🎵You are one, just with holy fire. As we lay aside all earthly desires, 🎵As we touch and our hearts are quiet. Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit, we welcome you. 🎵Holy Spirit, we welcome you. Holy Spirit, we welcome you. 🎵Let the breeze of your presence flow. Let your children hear my truly low. 🎵How to walk in the Spirit's love. Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit, we welcome you. 🎵Music🎵 🎵Holy Spirit, we welcome you. Holy Spirit, we welcome you. 🎵Please establish in me today the new life of loving grace, I pray. 🎵Holy Spirit, we welcome you. Holy Spirit, we welcome you. 🎵Music🎵 That was Holy Spirit, we welcome you. Reflecting back of course on Wesley and his experience of welcoming the Holy Spirit into his life. Now, Jenny and I like listening to Songs of Praise on a Sunday afternoon. And last Sunday, Jenny noticed something particularly interesting. Come on Jenny, you tell us what it was. Well, if you didn't watch Songs of Praise on BBC One, Sunday the 26th of May, I can thoroughly recommend that you find it and watch it, if you're at all interested in art in particular. Because it's just been the 200th anniversary of the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square, London. Now, we used to live in London, but I went to Trafalgar Square lots of times. I'm not sure if I went to the National Gallery. But one third of the artwork there focuses on Christian and Biblical themes. There are over 2,000 paintings. It's a massive place there. They do lots of preservation work and also restoration. And they have concerts in the gallery. And there was a sort of modern day artist there who was commissioned to do something in a church in London. And she was talking about the Fibonacci Spiral, which is a very fascinating thing that can be seen in so much in nature and in space, all sorts of places. So why not find out about the Fibonacci Spiral? Then there was a Roman Catholic priest who was the founder of a website that pairs a daily Gospel reading with a piece of art. He was a very interesting chap. Actually, it was Alan Jones doing all the interviews. He interviewed him. Very interesting. And his website is Christian.art. And I've had a quick look at it. It's very good. And now it's time for our Just for Fun quiz. Time for question one. Right. So I thought, as this was about art, let's have a Just for Fun quiz this week about Christian art. This is what we're going to do. It's really quite simple. I'm going to tell you three well-known artists from bygone days. I'll put them in alphabetical order so as not to influence you as to what may be the answers. And then each question, each quiz question will be asking you which of those three artists wrote the painting I'm going to mention. So let's go for it. Now, the three artists then are Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt and Rubens. I'm sure you've heard of all of them. So, OK, Blaise, here indeed is question one. Who painted The Last Supper? Now, there may be lots of people painted a picture of The Last Supper, but there's one very particular famous painting by a famous artist. Which of those artists was it by? Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt or Rubens? Hey, you, have you ever felt like listening to our sister programme on a Friday evening to kickstart your weekend early? Then prepare for the opposite of calm. You're listening to Believe Together, a Churches Together and KCM and Salford production for KTCR FM 105.8 and online. Now, here's my diary verse for the week. It comes from Matthew chapter 28. And it says, Then they push you to the ground, They hit you in the face, They take one hand and nail it down, They take the other to the side, Pain comes searing through you now, Heart can barely beat, You realize what's coming next, As they nail down your feet, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, You can hear your friends crack, You want to tell them it's alright, But as the other nails go, Things seem black as night, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, She's like a prophet, Father in heaven, forgive them now, They don't know what they do, And even though they hate me, Still my love is true, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Dying on a cross of wood, Anyway, what is it? It's called Because He Lives, it's sung by Joshua Aaron, and it was actually recorded in the Garden Tomb at Easter 2023. God sent His Son, They called Him Yeshua, He came to love, He lent forgiveness, He bled and died To buy my apartment, An empty grave is there To prove my Savior lives Because He lives I can face tomorrow Because He lives All fear is gone Because I know He holds the future And life is worth living Just because He lives God sent His Son, They called Him Yeshua, He came to love, He lent forgiveness, He bled and died He lent forgiveness, He bled and died To buy my apartment, An empty grave is there To prove my Savior lives Because He lives I can face tomorrow Because He lives All fear is gone Because I know He holds the future And life is worth living Just because He lives Because I know He holds the future And life is worth living Just because He lives Because I know He holds the future And life is worth living Just because He lives Now, if anyone would like to contact the team here at Believe Together, it could be answers to the quiz, it could be a birthday dedication, or you could be dedicating a track maybe to some other big moment in your life or another person's life, it's all good. Sometimes we can see the group, sometimes we can't. But it's a good place to go if you want to look back at everything and anything we've included. We also try to include the news again. All the text of it is there. And also the What's On events, which is what we're just coming up to now, isn't it, Jenny? Yep. It's time for some What's Ons. But this week, you might notice we're not saying much about what all the local churches are up to, which is what we're sort of meant to do. It seems to be a low sort of season after Pentecost. And there aren't many special events in the churches. Although, of course, all the regular activities are probably still on. But there's plenty else going on that's not regular. So let's get on with it. Now, from the 1st to 9th of June, there's a Festival of Nature in Baines. In fact, it's around the whole country. But Baines have organised all their own things. It includes, apparently, the greening of Milsom Street, if that interests you. But there are loads of things going on, including Kensham and Salford and other places, I'm sure. There'll be wildlife walks, nature workshops, film screenings. Those are among the events happening in Bath and North East Somerset. Reminder, between 1st and 9th of June. The libraries will be running drop-in nature story times. And the Kensham Library will be having some of that on Thursday 6th June. There will also be an exciting nature trial. Not a trial, a trail, which runs all week in the library. I don't know how they're doing that in the library, but that sounds interesting. Maybe we should pop along and see what they're talking about. Indeed, it sounds fun, doesn't it? Now, Wednesday 5th June is the next Bereavement Support Group in Kensham. It's a drop-in session from 5.30pm to 7pm, the first Wednesday of the month. In the church hall, Kensham Baptist Church. It's not a church event, but it is held in the church, between 5.30pm and 7pm. It is a free event. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be given. For anyone suffering bereavement is welcome. And you can arrive at 5.30pm, but you do not have to. And you can stay until 7pm, but you don't have to. You can just come and go when it suits. This is not a counselling service, but there are trained volunteers there to lend an emphatic ear, to join in conversation with you. Or you might choose to sit quietly and listen to others. It is very free and relaxed in a safe environment, where your emotions can be released or explored. It is a drop-in session. No need to book. But if you have any questions, you can contact bereavementkensham at gmail dot com or there is a telephone number that we'll put up on our Facebook page. It's supported by donations from Kensham Town Council and the Quartet Community Foundation. Many crowns, the Lamb of God is born A power heavy and true crown All beauty God is born Again my soul receives A King who died for me And in death thy judgment keep Through all eternity Crown you Lord of life Good triumph Lord of grace And rose victorious in the strife For those He came to save His glory now we sing Good night and all good night Good night eternal life to breathe And live that daily life Crown you Lord of peace Good time of tender space From cold to cold and warm facing And holy heaven's grace His reign shall no more end And from His pierced feet Let all of paradise extend Let praises ever sing Crown you Lord of peace The golden King of God Creator of the gloaming sea Here at the wheel of life On every fever day For now at night for me I pray I'll never, never fail Throughout eternity Thank you to Robin Mark for that classic old hymn Crown Him With Many Crowns Okay, well, the next few things we're going to talk about they all seem to happen on the same day, so, hey, if you've got any questions or comments, So, here we go. We have mentioned these before, but now they really are up and coming, these events. On Saturday, the 8th of June, from 9.30am until 12.30pm, join Just Love Bristol for a morning of conversation around inclusion in Christian communities. We're going to talk about how we can do that. Join Just Love Bristol for a morning of conversation around inclusion in Christian communities. God's vision for humanity is deeply relational, both with Him and with others, but too many people encounter barriers to feeling fully included in our churches, projects and workplaces. How can we be more Christ-like in our treatment of those on the margins? We'll be looking at questions like, why do people face barriers to belonging? How can we make our churches safe spaces for those who struggle with their mental or physical health? What do good or bad inclusion efforts look like? There'll be lots of opportunities to discuss these questions in a relaxed, informal environment, with refreshments provided throughout the morning. They say, we'd love to see you there. So that's from 9.30am to 12.30pm, but you're very welcome to stay afterwards for a free soup lunch to continue the conversation from 12.30pm to 1.30pm. But where is this? It's in Bristol, White Ladies Road, in the Victoria Methodist Church. Not the Victoria Methodist Church in Keynesham, this is the one in White Ladies Road, Bristol. You can get your free ticket from Eventbrite. Now again, on Saturday 8th June, from 9.30am to 3pm in the afternoon, we've recently had Dementia Action and Alzheimer's Awareness Week in the UK. There's something interesting going on soon related to that, which you may wish to go to. This is the Dementia Friendly Church Day Conference, Saturday 8th June, at Stockwood Free Church, Ladman Road, Stockwood. It's an opportunity to learn about theology and dementia, develop dementia awareness, consider a carer's perspective, and also bereavement. This is the first time such a conference has been held in South Bristol, and we hope you may be able to send representatives from your church to attend. But you do need to register again on Eventbrite. Details on our Facebook page if you want them. Now, here's something else on Saturday 8th June, when will it end Peter? Right, well this is an advert about a prophetic mentoring school. It's from 10am until 4pm, so that's a longer session. It's called Floodtide, going deeper in prophecy, visions and dreams. What to expect? Worship? How God impacts real lives today in loving prophetic encounters? Accessible prophetic workshops for beginners? Of course you can do it! And those well-travelled? Deeper in revelation. Sound biblical grounding in wise practice. A safe, compassionate place to connect with others and discover and grow in gifting. And there'll be an opportunity for prophetic ministry. It will be led by Liz Evans, who's very experienced in these matters, and she's the leader of Love Has a Voice. You might want to go and have a look at the website, lovehasaboice.org. But where is this conference? Well, it's in Bath. It's at St Philip's and St James Church, Froome Road, Oddsdown, Bath. And you can look on your sat-nav for it, it's BA22QF. But live streaming is also available. Now again on Saturday 8th June, but this time in the evening. Yeah, when you're worn out from all your other talks, you don't have a rest here. Half past seven in the evening. Keynsham Orchestra Summer Concert. Where? In St John's Church, Keynsham. Tickets are available on the door. Adults £10, concessions £8.50. Under 18s, free. Come along and listen to the Merry Wives of Windsor Overture. A selection from Swan Lake and Kalinikov Symphony 1, or the First Symphony, I should say. Well, I think that's the end of the 8th June items. So we're actually going to move on a bit further now, to Thursday 13th June. And this is from 9.45am until 4.30pm. Again, another very full day. Flourish Framework say something here. It says, Flourish Framework are hosting a mini-conference type event called Mixed Ecology and All Things on the Edge. A day of conversation. Where is it? The Haven at Speedwell, Bristol BS15 1ES. It's a day to meet with others and talk about all things on the edges of established church. They've arranged speakers from the Methodist Church, the Church of England and the Church Missionary Society. Pay as you fill from £15 to £25. So to book, go to flourishmixedecology24.eventbrite.co.uk In other words, go to Eventbrite again. We got much yet done There's a piece I can't explain Better days are yet to come There'll be days when I lose my way Let your word be my guiding light There's no limit to your boundless grief Got me dancing to the rhythm of your life There's a hole down in my heart Telling me there's much yet to do There's a piece I can't explain Better days are yet to come There's a hole down in my heart Telling me there's much yet to do There's a piece I can't explain Better days are yet to come There's a hole down in my heart Telling me there's much yet to do There's a hole down in my heart Telling me there's much yet to do There's a hole down in my heart Telling me there's much yet to do There's a hole down in my heart Telling me there's much yet to come There's a hole down in my heart Telling me there's much yet to do There's a piece I can't explain Better days are yet to come Here are the answers for this week's quiz Yes, so, these questions then, what are the answers? I wonder if you've got them right, you may have guessed the answers Number one, who painted The Last Supper? Well, it was Leonardo da Vinci I'm sure you knew that Number two, who painted The Descent from the Cross? Well, that was Peter Paul Rubens Number three, who painted Christ and Saint Mary Magdalene at the tomb? Well, then that has to be Rembrandt Now, have you noticed that we always say Leonardo da Vinci We sometimes say Rubens, which I did earlier But his full name is Peter Paul Rubens Rembrandt, well, have you ever heard what his other names are? That's not his surname, that's his first name So, here is Rembrandt's full name Rembrandt Harmanszoon van Rijn Or something like that, the pronunciation But everybody just calls him Rembrandt It's been suggested that he began using his first name as his signature Because he considered himself the equal of the great artists of the 15th and 16th centuries Michelangelo was Michelangelo Buonarroti Titian is Tiziano Vecchiaio And Raphael, Raphael Osanzio Were also generally known by their first names Well, that's interesting, isn't it? Well, I think so Maybe people just found it hard to pronounce their names So, that's your quiz If you want to know more, why not look on the internet? Anyway, it's now time to say goodbye again I hope you have a good week And you'll be able to join us again next week Goodbye Yes, and it's goodbye from me too We'll hand over to Des for a moment for a blessing And then we're going to play out this week with Angel Voices Ever Singing Brought to us from Norwich Cathedral And now it's time for the blessing Doesn't the time go quick, Celia? Lord God, help us to remember that all things come from you And you have plans for each one of our lives And we thank you for your goodness and your mighty blessings this day Amen Angel voices ever singing round thy throne of light Angel of our every need Precious day or night Thou the glory, the good, the free and the blessed Thee, Lord of light Thou the hour of our joy The joy of our lives Thou the king of heaven and earth And all thy great design Love and love and beauty, treasure All thy great love, O God In thy house, great God We offer all thy loaves to thee And for thine I treasure For the whole of mankind Love and light and heaven-voices In a joyous harmony Love and glory, might and fame In Christ the heavenly King Father, Son, and Holy Spirit Blessed be this day Come down every heart and spirit And ever bless the free
