Well, I mean, if I wanted to just feel good, I'd have a quart of ice cream. Right. That temporary feel-good. Yeah. Isn't that the way of the world? It's a buzz, man. Yeah. Right. How many times have we heard it said that you should be your own advocate? Yes. How can you be an advocate when you don't know anything? Agreed. Agreed. And advocating for yourself is so vital. Because who's going to do it if you don't fight for yourself? You are going to be at the, you know, I mean, I think about the time I was in the hospital. And the first day after I had my stroke, they came in to issue my medications. And, you know, at the hospital, they always say, you got to take it from our pharmacy. So they issue all your medications that I was already taking at home. They were exactly the same thing. And I said, wait a minute. I had a stroke. Why would I take the same medication that were to prevent a stroke and just continue on that course? Good for you. I mean, that is one thing that I'm very passionate about, especially on the topic of medications and pharmaceuticals. It is a business. And this is not about that. But it is super important that you do educate yourself. Because a lot of times doctors either, A, don't know, pharmacists know the crosscheck, or B, it's unfortunate a lot of them don't care and they just prescribe medications. A lot of times you don't need them or, like you said, you're doubling up. And that can cause more harm than good. They changed the medication. Right. That doctor who had issued those orders left my room and came back. They doubled my atorvastatin. I don't know if I could say a name brand. Pretty good. You pronounced it well. Well, thanks. Lots of practice, I guess. That's one of those things you don't want to have practice at. Right, right. I did see them double the amount I was taking and quadruple the amount I was taking aspirin. Now, I had a stroke, so this is just one category. You could have situations in your life like a job loss or a loss of a child. It's an event which is different than an ongoing, but it's still an ongoing event. Because you lost your child, it is an event. It happened. It's trauma. But it will continue to be with you. Yeah. So how do you educate yourself? And we have a great time to access tools. Absolutely. We quite literally have the world at our fingertips. Isn't it something? Yes. It's good and it's bad. Well, there is a downside to that. But it really is. And I would be one to take advantage. I'm just innately a researcher. I'm just that person. I like to dive in. I like to educate. And I am a question asker. I always encourage people, ask questions. It's one way to really learn. I tell my granddaughter all the time, ask questions. You would ask questions to who? To whomever. I mean, for example, if you are, we'll continue on the topic of, let's say, medications. I would be standing at that pharmacist's desk. Not even necessarily, I would ask the doctor, too. But I would be standing at that pharmacist's desk asking a lot of questions. Because they will always ask, do you have any questions for the pharmacist? Yes, I do. And I will put out my 1,800 questions on a piece of paper. They see you come in the door and they all go hiding. Michelle is back. Run. I had a pharmacy once tell me that they discontinued my meds. That's probably why. I'm just kidding. They did actually say that. They discontinued my antidepressant. Well, that's where self-advocacy begins, is knowing, being knowledgeable about the issue that you're addressing in your life. Well, it's interesting. Now that I just brought that up, even just advocating and asking questions about them, discontinuing. I was on, I'll mention it. I don't know if I can, but Propopian XL for depression and anxiety for about five years. And my pharmacist or my pharmacy did literally discontinue it. And I thought that was interesting. So I asked to speak to the pharmacist about that. And I decided to go to this particular pharmacy because the med at one store was $350. I don't have medical or did not have medical insurance. At this other store it was $15. So I went there and then they discontinued it. And I fought hard. I said, I am a patient who needs this med. How do you just discontinue it? I fought for it. And they continued to carry it. There you go. You're an advocate. I advocated. Absolutely. I asked questions. Why? Why do you do this? If somebody desperately needs this, I can't afford $350. And I fought. And they continued to carry it. Yeah, that's a great testimonial right there. I mean, who's going to fight for you if you don't do it for yourself? I mean, I know. My wife fought for me at times at the doctors in the hospital. And now I fight more for myself. And I read. Boy, when I get a prescription filled, you know how they attach those papers to the... I read everything. I do too. I read. I highlight. Yes, that's good, Barry. Yeah. That's good, because a lot of people just read the bottle. Take one every 12 hours. I even had a pharmacist who was, in this case, a personal friend. And I decided, well, since he's a friend, I'll give my business to his pharmacy. And on my very first refill, he said, Barry, do you realize these are medications that are in conflict with each other? And I said, what? He said, yeah, these two shouldn't be. Wow. Let me call your doctor's office about that. Wow. And he did. Yeah. And it got resolved. But he looked out for me too. So there are people out there, but you still... That's a good team member. Like we talked about last time, enlisting a team. That's a good team member. And you'll be... I want to say, yeah. Let's say, in any situation, educating yourself would be, go online. As easy as it is to access right now, go online and begin to study what are the trends in hiring practices. Find out what's the hot topics of resume building, because you're going to have to come up with a resume. And then create a strategy. Write it down what you... That's another part of this educating, is writing down what you've discovered so you can find it, whether it's on a computer or by hand. Just keep a log of what you've learned. I would also throw a little twist. I agree with all of that. I would throw a little twist in educating yourself and asking questions. I would... If they're willing, depending what your state is. A lot of states don't have to tell you why they fired you, if you got fired or if you quit. Ask, why? What can I do better? What can I bring into my new job? Because sometimes we don't see that in ourselves. Well, and if you ask it in a non-threatening manner, you'll get... Always be non-threatening. A gentle answer turns away wrath. Well, our 15 minutes are gone. If you want to learn more about us and about this podcast, please reach out through our website, TalksAboutHope. Feel free to ask questions and we will try to bring them on the air and answer those questions as best as we can. Remember, we're not necessarily doctors or... So you should always consult with your doctor before you begin any kind of new regimen. Please. We're just a couple of people who have experienced loss ourselves. A lot of life. Yeah. I like that. That's a great way. I like that better than saying loss. A lot of life. We've experienced a lot of life. Michelle broke her neck. I sure did. I had a stroke. I had a triple bypass. So I know what a heart attack feels like. And so we've been down the road a bit, but we've been talking to others. And Michelle's been working as a physical therapist and sports trainer with people that are working their way back. So we've always been able to talk to people that are going through difficult times. Feel free to reach out to us. TalksAboutHope.com. Talk to you next time. Have a great day.
