Women in the past were only seen as mothers and homemakers, which led to them being seen as suitable for the role of a teacher. They were considered cheap labor and were expected to prioritize their domestic duties over their teaching profession. However, some teachers decided to stand up for themselves and demand fair pay from Sarmiento. This shows that the identity of a teacher is constantly being challenged and questioned. Even today, women are still seen primarily as mothers, but as teachers, we have the power to choose and assert our profession and exercise our freedom as critical individuals.
