Debra from PayPal Customer Service called the user to address a network issue. The user was experiencing problems logging into their PayPal account and someone had changed their password. The user mentioned that their computer was acting strange after downloading AnyDesk, and someone on the computer was asking them to purchase gift cards. Debra assured the user that they didn't need to give any money and that she would help resolve the issue. She explained that the user's network was compromised and that all devices connected to the network, including their phone, were at risk. Debra emphasized the importance of not trusting the hackers and advised against using VPN as a sole form of protection. She assured the user that she would help fix the issues and secure their IP address. Hello. Thank you for accepting the call. This is Debra from PayPal Customer Service. Ma'am, we received a call from your end yesterday and due to some network issue, we couldn't respond to you back. That's why we are giving you a call today. Were you facing any issues with your PayPal? Pardon? I'm sorry? What did you say? Ma'am, I'm... What's your name? Ma'am, Debra. I am from PayPal Customer Service. We received a call from your end yesterday and yesterday we were facing some network issue due to which we couldn't respond to you. That's why we are giving you a call today. Okay. So, were you facing any issues with your PayPal? Yeah. I can't log in. Somebody changed my password. Mm-hmm. Are you still... Do you... It's not been solved yet? Nope. Okay. Yeah. Tell me what happened. I don't know what happened. I went to Arrow City and then, you know, went to party and stuff like that. It just all went to hell. Mm-hmm. Okay. So, what is like... Is there anything missing from your PayPal? Like anything else? There were some guys on my computer that made me download any desk about a week ago and my computer's been weird ever since. Mm-hmm. And anything else? They have a new password? They want me to go get these card things from the store and, you know, I haven't yet. I don't know if it's real. Okay. No problem. My mouse moves around on my computer by itself and it's gone through all my accounts. It even, like, played my Spotify. It's turned it on and off, like, when it's full-blasting. It's been pretty disturbing. Mm-hmm. You still facing the issue? Are they out of your computer? Pardon? Are they out of your computer? You still facing that issue? They're in my computer. Still they are on your computer? Yeah, still. Until I give them money, I don't get my computer back. I've unplugged it and then I plug it back in and they're still on there. Okay. First of all, you don't have to give money to anybody, okay? I'll help you. All right? You're sweet. Thank you. Yes. You don't have to share any of your details or you don't have to give any of your money, okay? They want me to go get the target card. No, no, no, no. Okay. Just do one thing. Just do one thing, okay? First, just stay on the line. Let me go ahead and check the details. Can you please just first verify me first in your last name? Yeah. It's Marty Bird. M-A-R-T-Y. B-Y-R-D. Okay. All right. Thank you for the verification. I'll just hold the line for a moment so that I can go ahead and check the details, okay? Just stay connected with me. Are you still there, Mr. Marty? Ms. Marty? Yeah. Yeah. I'm still here. Okay. Just do let me know that are you still in contact with them? Like, are you on the call with them? Are you talking to them? They keep calling me. Okay. Are you still in contact with them? Yes. Okay. Are you still in contact with them? Yes. Are you still in contact with them? Yes. Okay. Are you still in contact with them? They keep calling my cell phone and stuff like that, but I'm not picking up. You know, I just kind of, I don't know what to do. I've contacted the police even, and they told me, like, that there's nothing they can do because they're not on my soil. Mm-hmm. No problem. So, you contacted them or they contacted you? They contacted me. Mm-hmm. For what purpose? They said I had a hacker on my system. Mm-hmm. So, yesterday, you made a call to PayPal, to us? Well, they could have made a call from my computer, too, because my phone has VOIP on it, or my computer has VOIP on it. Okay. That means your computer and your phone is already being hacked by those people. Well, not my phone. My phone's still normal, but my computer's been hacked. But it has a program that runs my VOIP system for my business. See, your IP address is the same for your phone as well as for your computer. That means if they are misusing your computer, that means they have all the information, and they can do the same with your phone as well. Actually, I have my cell phone on a VPN, and they can't see my cell phone. See, VPN is a very unsecured network. Are you sure that VPN protects your phone? It's never... It protects my phone. It doesn't even let me make phone calls sometimes because the IP won't authorize. See, see, see, what happens, what happens, Miss Marty, that a VPN only gives you access to the websites which you aren't able to, like on a regular network, okay? Like on a regular network, if you are not able to access some of the websites, VPN gives you the access to that, okay? VPN gives you access to the videos and photos and everything. But VPN never protects your phone from these kind of people, okay? If these kind of people are on your phone or on your network, that means it's been compromised. Your VPN cannot... There are a lot of stronger security than VPN which can protect your network. Right now, you cannot say that VPN protects your network. Do you have a paid VPN, and do you have a free VPN? I have a paid. Still, it will not protect your phone or network, like from these kind of people. But you don't have to worry. Let me help you out. Like you said that you called police, and police told you that they cannot do anything in that case. If I get into my laptop, my laptop's working fine. Okay, see, your information they already have, okay? It's not just about your laptop or your computer or your phone, okay? They have your information. They can do anything with their computer itself, okay? They don't have to get the access to your phone or to anything else, okay? See, this is a straightforward that your network is compromised, not your computer, okay? Your network. Network, that means it contains all the devices which are connected right now to your Wi-Fi or to your LAN server. Everything is being compromised, not just only your computer, but your laptop, your phone, everything. Whatever information you have of yours, because your IP can be just a single IP. None of your IPs could be changed, or none of your IDs could be different. Your IP for your computer, for your phone, for your laptop is the same IP, which has already been compromised. Your IP has all your information, starting from your personal information, financial information, social media information, everything. And which is being compromised right now. Oh, lovely. Okay, and we need to fix that, because if we do not fix that, one by one, right now they have your computer, but after some time they will have your laptop, they will have your phone, everything. I'm worried about my business phone. I hope they're not making calls through it. See, it could happen. I told you that they have your IP. You should know that your IP, I guess you know what is an IP address. I know what an internet protocol is. Yes, and if you know that, then you should know that whatever information you have on the internet, like your name, your email number, your business account, your business details, your phone number, everything. I have everything. I have my whole web browser, because any desk needs. See, any desk is not a bad application. Any desk is a security application. But those people are bad. You should know that they are misusing it. See, if any desk, sometimes in PayPal, Cash App, Venmo, Zelle, and some banks or IT person as well, uses any desk for helping the customers, but there are two kinds of people. There are one people who use it for the benefit of the customers, to help their customers, and there are other people who try to hack them or who try to misuse their identities. You should make sure that you are talking to a legit person. It's you who have to make sure. And if they are asking you to purchase cards, that is very illegitimate. That is very illegal. No legit company say you ever to purchase any kind of gift card. Okay? Yeah. Yes. So I told you that any desk, in PayPal as well, we use any desk for the security. Okay? But you are the one who should make the difference between the person who is helping you, who will be helping you, and the person who can hack you. Okay? Have they told about any information regarding your account, that you are facing any issues, anything? Just they told you that somebody is in your network? They said there are some Russian hackers in my network, and they ran some kind of command in the prompt or whatever it was, and said there was like foreign IPs. Okay. Okay. See, your IP could be the possibility that they made your IP public, and before they calling you, was your network, everything was running great? Yeah, everything was running fine until those guys hacked my computer. So how can you trust them that somebody is on your network? I can't trust anything on my network. Okay, no problem. I understand what you are saying. I'm just so blind, you know, so busy with work that consumes you. See, I can totally understand, Ms. Monty, if you face these issues, and you called us at the right time, and we called you back. Yesterday, we were facing some network glitch on our network. That's why we couldn't call you back. Oh. But today, that's why we called you today. Yeah, that's why we called you today. But you don't have to worry. I will help you to fix all the issues. At the same time, I will make sure that your IP is private. Oh, okay. My friends just told me to pull the cord of my modem, or whatever it's called, or my fiber optic modem, and it will change as soon as you turn it back on. Is that true? No, see, your IP could never be changed. Okay, like you have your home address, okay, which could never be changed until and unless you switch to a different location. Okay? So, it's just like your home address, okay, which is a permanent. Oh, okay. Until and unless you change your home, it could never be changed. Okay? So, that just works the same with the IP address. Your IP could never be changed until and unless you are going to a different location, like settling on a different location, okay? Not just going to, if you are going to some mall or something, it will never change. Okay? If you are settling to a different location, which has a different zip code, might be the possibility that your IP will change. Okay? But, if you are living at the same place, your IP will remain the same. It's just a matter we need to make sure that your IP is hidden, not public. Okay? Yeah. It would be private. It should be private. Yeah. How do we do this? Okay. So, as you told me that they have your computer. So, first, I will be helping you out to unlock the access to these people. How can we unlock the access to these people? Okay, first, just stay connected with me. Let me go ahead and set the details first. Okay? Okay. All right, Ms. Marti, as I have just had a word with my security department, I came across that. First, as I told you that if I will also connect through any desk to your computer, okay, both the networks of those people and my network will crash. Okay? And they will know that you are contacting someone from some security department or PayPal department. You are trying to just remove their access from your computer. Yeah. They would try to do harmful activities to your information. Okay? And we do not want to do that. That is why we will go slow. We will not let them know that you are contacting anybody. We will be putting securities first. Okay? Okay. Or we will be starting with your phone. And along with that, once we make your IP, because first of all, we need to make your IP private. Until and unless we make your IP private, we cannot block their network. Okay? If we will block their network now, it could be the possibility they will share your details on Internet. They will wire your information on Internet by using your IP. Okay, see, they can never copy the information of your IP address, and they can never take a screenshot, and they can never download any information of your IP. So every time they want your information, they will open your IP, and they will take that information. Okay? So they have to open your IP in order to take your information. That is why we need to make sure your IP is private. It will ask you a password to open it. So that is why first we make your private IP private, and then we will be proceeding with the blocking of the network of those people. So first, we will be going ahead with your phone. Okay? So if you have any questions on your mind, you can go ahead and ask me. I don't want you to make blind trust on anybody. So if you have any questions, you can go ahead and ask me. Okay? Like, how did they get on my IP in the first place? I'm just confused there. See what happens. See what happens. Could be the possibility that from before your network has been compromised. Sometimes what happens when we go to some mall or some restaurant, we tend to connect our network to a public Wi-Fi. Okay? To public Wi-Fi. Like you visited some other laptop, but sometimes you take public Wi-Fi or sometimes you use public Wi-Fi. What happens whenever you do browsing, okay, whenever you go on Internet, as you told me that you have a business account, sometimes it happens that you must have received a lot of spam emails on your email. Okay? I get a lot. Yes. These spam emails contain a link. It contains a link inside it. Once we open it, it could be the possibilities. You are also a human. There could be the possibilities. My mistake. You have clicked on some kind of ads or clickbait, due to which you went to a different website. Or could be the possibility while browsing, whenever we do browsing, if we're searching for some website or recipe or anything. So we come across a lot of options for the website. Okay? There are some websites which contain some kind of infections or Trojan spywares. Once you click on those websites, those Trojan spywares get inside on your network, and they get your information and everything, and then they make calls and everything, and then they tend to take your information and everything, and that's how these people got you. They are IT technicians or superfied hackers, those who hack illegally. They are the hackers who do ethical hacking, which is illegal hacking, and they are the people who use it illegally. Those are the people who use it in an illegal way, and that's what they are doing. They are the people who know codings and everything and commands, and that's how these people made your IP private. Okay? Okay. I'm sorry, public. Okay? That's all right. That's all right. Yes. And that's what I told you, that first we will be connecting you to the PayPal secure network. This secure network is going to block all those people who are on your network first, and once we block those people, then I will be helping you to fix any desk issue on your computer, and along with that, first, I will make your phone IP, like your IP address private with the help of your phone. Okay? Okay. That sounds good. Yes. See, and if you will have any questions, you can go ahead and upfrontly ask me. I am up for all the questions. Okay? Because we need to make sure the mind of our customer is secure. My email. I'm worried about my email, you know. I've got a really, really email from my business, and it's just, yeah. See, could be the possibility that if you are receiving a lot of spam emails, just because your IP is private, your information is everywhere, so people send those kind of, like, can you please just confirm me? Just don't mind my question, but can you please confirm me? Are you receiving any emails from any kind of porn website? No. I don't visit those websites. I find that disgusting. See, you don't visit. That's a different thing. I don't need to visit the website. I'm good in person. I can totally understand that. You're really funny. But I'm telling you. Thank you. It's not you who's visiting those websites, but what these people do is whenever these people see. We had a lot of cases. That's why I asked you a question. What these people do is these people use your identity on different kind of shopping website or different kind of porn website. That's when you receive some kind of email, like, related to that your order has been arriving. You receive any receipt from any shopping website, because if you are not doing it still, you are receiving some receipt from the shopping website, or you receive for any confirmation, anything like that, order confirmation, spam emails. So that's what these people do, okay? That's why I asked you this question, okay? Okay. Now, first, I will be securing your network, okay? Network using. What are you using? First, we will be securing your network using security, okay? In your phone. And once we secure the network, I told you already. This security network is going to run a security scan, which will be further going to go ahead and block all this suspicious activity, which is coming on your network. And once we block on your network, then we'll be proceeding to your computer in order to block those people access, okay? So, first, can you please just let me know what is the making model of the mobile phone in which you use your PayPal, okay? Is it an Android or an iPhone? iPhone. Okay. Now, first, do one thing. Put me on speaker and open your app store in your phone. Okay. And once in your app store, look at the right bottom corner. Do you see there will be a search with a magnifying glass? Push that. And once you push that, you will see on the top there will be a search bar. Okay, now you need to type in there anydesk, the same security, okay? Because they have used that. Okay. Yeah. Okay. Hit on anydesk. Yeah, anydesk.com. I'm familiar with the app. No, it's just anydesk. No, it's not anydesk.com. It's just anydesk, A-N-Y-D-E-S-K. Okay, I see it. Okay, now once you click on anydesk, you will see an app that says anydesk remote desktop software. It will be red square with white diamonds. Do you see that? Yes, I do. Hit on get and install it. And once it's installed, open it and do let me know. Okay. Give me a second here. I'm just trying to get it to download here. No problem. Take your time. Yeah. How come the phone keeps clicking? I keep hearing a clicking noise on the phone. Hey, it's downloading really slow, like really slow. No problem. No problem. You can take your time. I don't know if those guys are doing anything. Yes, exactly. Why you are facing the network issue is because probably those people are using your network and they are doing these cheap activities. Due to that, you are facing the issue, but you don't have to worry. I'll fix that. Okay? Okay.
