Cats have many adaptations, including sharp senses, retractable claws, and quick reflexes. They communicate through vocalizations and are most active at dawn and dusk. Cats evolved millions of years ago and domestic cats originated from the African wildcat. Egyptians saw cats as sacred and magical creatures. The cat family can be placed into three groups: Panthera, Asinonyx, and Felis. Cats can help humans by purring, which has healing abilities, reducing stress and anxiety. Everyone loves cats, and everyone needs to know how cats, those funny, adorable, and lazy creatures, lived many, many years ago, and how they live today. We're going to be learning about the adaptations of cats. Some adaptations of cats include their eyes, sense of smell, and supernatural hearing, retractable claws. They have a strong, flexible body, quick reflexes, sharp teeth, and retractable claws. Its night vision and sense of smell are well-developed. Fun fact, a cat's reaction time is 20 to 30 milliseconds. That's fast, right? Cat communication includes vocalizations like meowing, purring, thrilling, hissing, growling, and grunting. Most cats are active at dawn and dusk. Fun fact, cats sleep 70% of their entire lifetime. The domestic cat has a smaller skull and shorter bones than the European wildcat. Eyes much clearer than human vision. Cats evolved 10 to 11 million years ago. The domestic cat originated from the African wildcat and has interacted with humans. Now, they're the cats we see today. Cats were seen as sacred and magical creatures by the Egyptians. The cat family can be placed in three various groups. Panthera, Asinonyx, and Felis. Panthera, cats that roar, such as lions, tigers, leopards, and other creatures. Asinonyx, this defines cats that don't have cheeks for guarding their claws. The cheetah is the only existing cat in this classification. Felis, all other small cats, including our lovable house cats. Cats can help us in various ways. Their purring helps us to heal bones, tendons, muscles. And a cat purring is one of the most comforting sounds in the world. And while it certainly makes your cat happy, comfortable, the sound has been long associated with the therapeutic healing ability on the human bones and muscles. They reduce stress and anxiety.
