The Senior Scoop is a podcast where the senior class shares their experiences and future plans. In this episode, the host interviews Shea Menard, a senior at Algrave Sims. Shea talks about her move from Detroit to Algrave Sims in third grade and her love for sports. She plans to attend SDSU in the fall and pursue a career in the medical field. Shea advises her younger self to be true to herself and not let others stop her from achieving her goals. She also shares her preference for swimming in a pool of M&M's rather than marshmallows. Shea reflects on the adjustment of moving from a big city to a small town and emphasizes the importance of diversity. She looks forward to becoming independent but admits she will miss her family. Shea gives a shout-out to her parents for their support and thanks her teachers and coaches. She encourages future generations to have fun and not take their high school years for granted. The episode concludes with a thank you to Shea for being the first guest The Senior Scoop is an opportunity for the community to hear directly from the senior class about their experiences, hopes, dreams, and reflections. The Scoop is a result of a collaboration between administration and the Class of 2023. We hope that you'll enjoy chilling with us each week as we dish up a sweet treat of accumulated Wolverine wisdom 13 years in the making and introduce you to the fantastic young men and women who will soon become AGS alumni and tomorrow's community leaders. I'm your Senior Scoop host, Chris Ming, the proud superintendent of the Algrave Sims School District. Thanks for listening. Now let's dig in. Good afternoon. It is a beautiful day here at Algrave Sims. The sun is shining and there's just a little bit of snow still melting outside. I am joined today for our first recording of the Senior Scoop with Senior Shea Menard. So, Shea, thanks for being here today. Thank you for having me. So, Shea, to kick things off, we brought you in because you're one of the people who helped me set up this podcast. You, along with Bryce, who will join us for our next edition of the podcast. Why don't you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you came to be a senior here at Algrave Sims. Well, I moved here from the Detroit area, Bradford, Michigan, in third grade. So I've been here mainly my whole life. I love the feel here. It's a small town atmosphere, but I really got to make a lot of friends right away. So you were born down in the Detroit area? Yes. Okay. So you've been here since third grade. What's your fondest memory of your time at AGS? Probably sports. That was a big thing for me. What sports did you play? I played volleyball, basketball, softball, and track. And the memories you make along the way with your teammates and looking back at that, you'll never... I guess when you go out into the real world, you'll always be able to look back at high school and how it shaped you. Okay. Anything in particular that you might look back at in your future and say, you know, that was a good moment? That was fun? Yeah. There's many, but... Anything you'd like to share? Maybe one? Obviously, I would say bus rides. Those are always fun. Bus rides? Okay. Yeah. So Shay, part of this podcast, we want to learn a little bit about what your life is planned out to be, what your thoughts are for the future. And you know you don't have to have everything planned right now. Do you have any ideas for your plans for life outside the walls of AGS? I plan after this year to go to SDSU in the fall, go into some type of medical. I'm not for sure yet, but nursing. I've always wanted the college experience, and I've worked towards this, so... Is your plan to live away or to commute? I'll live on campus. Okay. And why the medical field? I've always just been interested in it and just helping people. For some reason, I'm stuck on medical right now. Okay. It could change, and if it does, then... A lot of college freshmen change their majors. Yeah. Nothing wrong with that field whatsoever, but it's also okay to change your mind on it later on. Yeah. Okay, good. So what about SDSU has really attracted you? Probably, I don't know, the people there. They seem very... So you've been on the campus a few times? The campus is beautiful. I really liked it. All right, so I want you to go back into your Wayback Machine. Okay. And you've been here since third grade, right? So you've walked the elementary, you've lived through the middle school, you survived the middle school, and now you're graduating a high school senior here. What piece of advice would you give to yourself if you had the opportunity to go back in time and visit third grade Chaminade? The advice I would give to myself is just to be yourself and, like, continue with that. Like, don't let people, like, stop you, I guess, from who you are and what, like, your goals are in life. And do you feel like you're on that path now? Yes. About what time did you figure that out? Probably, honestly, like, last year. Or when I was a sophomore, that's kind of when I sat down, like. All right, I'm going to mix things up a little bit. We're going to go away from the serious questions here. Okay. I'm going to give you a completely random, off-the-wall question. Would you rather swim in a pool of marshmallows or M&M's, and why? I'd rather swim in a pool of M&M's because I love chocolate. Just eat your way out of there? Yes. Because you never actually go swimming without getting a gulp full of that water anyway. Yes. So, okay. And also, I feel like if you swim in marshmallows, it would be, like, sticky. Yeah, I can see that. I can see the M&M's on a hot summer day being pretty sticky and that type of thing, too. But, okay, told you, really random. So, you grew up in Metro Detroit. Yes. Probably have some memories of your childhood there. And this is as far removed from Metro Detroit as you could possibly get. Kind of a little rural, isolated view. So, what do you think are the best and maybe the worst things about a school that's our size? It was a big adjustment for me, I guess, just coming from a city with hundreds, like, tons of kids to, like, only a hundred. But I guess, like, diversity plays a big role to me. And, like, when I've lived in the city, you have to see a lot of that. So, like, in here, maybe not as much. Okay. But I really love Augray and am happy for this experience. Well, excellent. Well, we've been better off for having you. Let me ask you this. So, you're not really quite through your full development as a human. I'm sure you've learned a lot in your time here. Is there something that maybe you're still aspiring to be, maybe something you want to change in yourself or something you are looking forward to in your next step towards maturity, towards life, towards whatever it might be? I guess I'm just looking forward to, like, going off and being, like, independent, I guess, on my own. And, you know, I will face challenges, but overcoming them is how, like, it builds you. Okay. Anything that you may be a little scared about? I am scared. Like, I'm going to miss my family a lot and, like, not seeing and being with them every day. I'm not as scared. Your family is a big part of you. I'll have support along with my family and friends, so. Okay. Well, I'd like to give you a chance now to maybe do a little shout-out or a thank you or whatever it might be to anyone who has been a particularly important person in your life. I would give a shout-out to my mom and dad helping me to where I am today and always being there through school, sports, just life in general, and also, like, teachers, coaches all throughout the years. Okay. Well, excellent. Thank you to them. Shea, you've been a great first guest, but now I'm going to open it up. to say whatever you want here about your time here, about your experiences here in Algrave, and anything that you would like to pass on to the future generations who are going to follow you. Just have fun. Don't take these moments for granted because you will miss it. And time flies, especially when you hit high school. Well, I think that's wonderful advice. So, thank you very much for joining me today. Yes, thank you for having me. In the first recording of the Senior Scoop, something we hope to continue for years to come. So, my guest today was Shea Medard, senior, graduating class of 2023. First Senior Scoop guest that we've had on the show, and we appreciate you listening. Have a great day. This has been a production of the Algraveson School District. Thanks for tuning in, and we hope you join us again soon for another Senior Scoop.
