Ethiopia, located in the horn of Africa, has a rich cultural heritage and a history dating back 3.2 million years. It has never been colonized, resulting in unique traditions and customs. The country is home to diverse ethnic groups, each with its own language and cultural practices. The culture is deeply rooted in Christianity and Orthodox. Ethiopia has over 77 ethnic groups, and wedding traditions vary among them. In the past, marriages were arranged by families, but now the bride and groom have more say, although families are still involved. I chose my home country, Ethiopia, located in the horn of Africa with a rich cultural heritage and a history dating back 3.2 million years. It is one of the few countries in Africa that has never been colonized, resulting in a unique blend of traditions and customs that have been preserved over the centuries. Ethiopia is home to many diverse ethnic groups, each with its own language, traditions, and cultural practices. The country's culture is deeply rooted in Christianity and Orthodox, with detailed religious ceremonies and festivals. Ethiopia is made up of more than 77 diverse ethnic groups, and as such, the ceremonies, customs, and traditions will vary by ethnic groups. Today I will be focusing on the wedding traditions of my ethnic group called Abasha, specifically the Amara and Oromo group. Traditionally, marriages in Ethiopia were arranged by families of the bride and groom, and today the bride and groom decide who they will marry, but families still have very much involved process.
