Teen activists Greta Thunberg and Angela Boushietz are fighting climate change in different ways. Greta protests and leads strikes, while Angela uses technology to raise awareness and reduce carbon footprints. Greta faced obstacles and criticism, but continues to fight. She encourages people to protest and change daily habits. Angela developed an app called EnRoute to help people live sustainably and reduce carbon emissions. She focuses on pollution in Macedonia and encourages people to download her app. Both activists are trying to make a positive impact on the environment. I'm Hannah and I'm John and this is J&H Speaks. In this episode of J&H Speaks, we will be speaking about teen activists Greta Thunberg and Angela Boushietz by taking action to fight climate change. Greta Thunberg fights climate change by protesting and leading strikes. Angela Boushietz fights climate change by using technology to bring awareness to climate change and help people reduce their carbon footprint. Greta Thunberg and Angela Boushietz are both fighting climate change in a variety of ways in order to save the planet. Greta Thunberg is a teen activist who is fighting climate change using protests and other methods. John and me will now talk about Greta Thunberg and how she is saving the planet. We need to take action and support Greta Thunberg on a mission to reduce the terrible effects of climate change, a life-threatening problem. Greta was born on January 3, 2003, in Stockholm, Sweden. She was born with Asperger's Syndrome, which influenced her to be super focused on climate change. When Greta was young, she learned about the negative effects of climate change and quickly changed her habits. She has done many things to change climate change. For example, she protested at the Sweden election for three weeks on a strike called School Strike for Climate. She protested to the government that they should help reduce carbon emissions. She got arrested numerous times, was fined, and they removed her and the protesters from the places she was trying to boycott. These are obstacles she overcame in order to protect the world. That was not the only thing she faced. She got mocked by Donald Trump for her disability with her Asperger's Syndrome. He tweeted, Greta must work on her anger management problem. Then go to a good old-fashioned movie with a friend. Chill, Greta, chill. She responded, Currently chilling and watching a good old-fashioned movie with a friend. He also tweets something about how he thinks girls should be. They should not be angry about the climate crisis and trying to do something about it. She responded back, Without listing Trump's name, but said, How dare you continue to look away and come here saying that you're doing enough when the politics and solutions needed are still nowhere in sight. She said, You say you hear us and that you understand the urgency. But no matter how sad and angry I am, I do not want to believe that. Because if you really understood the situation and still kept on failing to act, then you would be evil. And out of that, I refuse to believe. This is an example of some of the criticism she got. Not everyone agrees with her, but she still continues to fight. She often skips school for these strikes. Now she speaks in speeches all around the world. For example, she spoke at the UN Climate Change Conference, which is the biggest climate change conference in the world. She takes action to help raise awareness of climate change for young people. How can we help Greta Thunberg in her efforts to reduce climate change? We can help her by protesting things that promote climate change. We can also help her in her movements and her protests that help raise the awareness of climate change. We can also help by changing our daily habits, by changing how we farm, what we eat, and how we treat nature. She says we can help society cut carbon emissions and disease outbreaks and boost biodiversity. These are just some things we can do to help her reduce our carbon footprint. I really encourage you to be a good person and to help Greta Thunberg achieve the worldwide goal of helping improve climate change. After our quick commercial break, Hannah Bisley will now talk about her activist. So, my activist is Angela Boushitska. She was born in 2003 in Macedonia. Well, she lives in Macedonia. She developed an app to help people live more sustainably. She lived with her aunt who had cardiovascular disease. The pollution made it worse and caused her aunt to die shortly after. So, she made an app called EnRoute. It has reduced over 180 kilograms or 397 pounds of carbon emissions over a span of 18 months. It has also connected more than 60,000 people in 18 months. She has a partnership with the global change makers to try to reduce climate change. Her app has over 80,000 users in 120 countries. It also measures how much carbon is emitted through everyday activities to help you realize how your daily activities are causing carbon emissions. The majority of Macedonian pollution comes from the clothing and textile industry, vehicles, and power plants. She moved to Skopje, North Macedonia when she was 17, and she founded EnRoute in April of 2020. EnRoute helps people make daily decisions that shrink their carbon footprint. It has reduced over 100,000 kilograms of CO2 emissions. In Skopje, there is literally so much pollution that people not only live for 2-3 years less than in a place with a normal pollution level, but on the 6th floor of a hotel, sometimes you cannot see the streets of Skopje. People will also have to wear face masks to help protect themselves against the pollution. The amount of PM2.5 pollution particles, which are particles with diameters less than 2.5 microns, is very high, and reducing it to the EU's recommended maximum amount could help avoid 20% of heart and lung diseases. The population of Macedonia is 2.058 million, and it is a parliamentary republic, so it is relatively small in comparison to countries such as the U.S. We can help her by downloading her app, EnRoute, and using it to help you change your habits and start making more Earth-conscious and Earth-friendly decisions in your daily life, which can ultimately lead to a reduction in climate change. She is using this technology to improve the world and help with climate change by developing an app that reduces people's carbon imprint. We should support her because she is finding a way to use something that most of us in most of the developed countries, and even some still-developing countries, have, so that would be technology. So whether it's a phone or a computer or something like that, to reach out to people and make them aware of this issue and show them how they can fix this issue, how they can help reduce the issue and help save the Earth. Overall, Greta Thunberg and Angela Bushiska are climate change activists who are using a variety of methods to impact people's thoughts and actions in order to change environmental problems.
