In Alaska, spruce bark beetles are damaging millions of hectares of trees due to warmer temperatures. Climate change is caused by global issues like ocean and air pollution, leading to the greenhouse effect. Antarctic sea ice is rapidly melting, endangering animals like penguins and polar bears. Youth activists like Hannah Testa and Xie Bastida are fighting for environmental rights and urging government action. We can support them by making changes in our own lives, like planting trees and promoting resource conservation. Small actions can make a big difference in improving the environment. Did you know that in the U.S. state of Alaska, spruce bark beetle have distorted 1.6 million hectares of spruce trees? That is happening because the temperature is warmer than the average. Hi. Today I want to share something about the climate, about climate change, and youth activism. What is causing climate change? It's the global issues that we have, such as ocean pollution and air pollution. The issues are affecting our environment. The common effect, the people named it greenhouse effect, which is when the Earth's surface temperature is higher than the average. The first affected place is Antarctica and the North Pole. Antarctica hits this year's record sea ice minimum of 815,000 square miles, which was 71,000 square miles below the previous lowest minimum in 1997. Antarctic sea ice saw an early maximum extend in 2016, but followed by a very rapid loss of ice starting in September. Since November, daily Antarctic sea ice extent has consciously been at its lowest level in the record. The sea ice is gradually disappearing. This means that many animals will lose their home and start to be endangered animals, like penguins and polar bears. They need a natural environment to keep them alive. The Earth is losing sea ice due to the environment that's getting worse. We as human have to take care of it. There are many youth activists that are fighting to gain our rights. One example is Hannah Testa. On the TED Talk video, she said, I spoke on how we need government reaction to fight plastic pollution and that we cannot sit while we continue to pollute our home. I concluded with a final question. Are you with us? Yes, if we participate in this, if we pay attention to this, if we make some changes to this. Hannah Testa is one of the environmental youth activists. She is an international speaker. She speaks out like all other upstanders. We have to know how serious the problem of the environment will affect things. The youth activists put their effort into research and speeches to let us know why we should protect the environment. Another example is Xie Bastida. On another TED Talk video, she said, I didn't know what to do at first. The world is so big and it has so many bad habits. I didn't know how 15 years old was supposed to change anything, but I had to try. She also has a famous quote. We are on earth to take care of life. We are on earth to take care of each other. Did you see that? These youth activists have wisdoms that many people don't. They know how important the earth is. They know their values and they also know to try, no matter if this decision is big or not. How can we respond to their hard work? The first step is to change yourself. Do something that's helpful. You can plant trees because they are the most effective way to make the environment cleaner. They can absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygens. They can also maintain the green land balance. Another way to support is to make some interaction between your community. It doesn't have to be big, but maybe just remind your family, friends to pay attention to this, at least not wasting resources. These all count as helping and the more people do it, the environment will get better. Many little changes make big changes. For example, today you pick up a trash and put it into the trash bin. Maybe it is an unusual thing, but the meaning is much bigger than itself. Hopefully you might realize some more things about how to make our environment better. Thank you for listening to this record. I hope you learned something. Goodbye.
