William Dean Howells
William Dean Howells was an American author and literary critic who lived from March 1, 1837 to May 11, 1920. He was a renowned realist writer and was given the nickname "The Dean of American Letters." Howells was famous for being the editor of the Atlantic Monthly as well as for his many writings, which included the novel "The Rise of Silas Lapham" and the Christmas story "Christmas Every Day."
