And welcome back everyone to the Y Sports podcast. It's your boy Alvin Spain and it's been a while since we've last done this But it's great to be back and great to be doing this with y'all So basically the title of this episode is what did I make? Not like anything big happened. That's my sarcastic voice. Of course This is one of the best times of the year in sports around the March and April and May time frame It's just a lot of activities happening. I'm going to be giving my opinions. They may be outdated but never out of style I'm looking for the catching up with y'all and catching up with all the things that we missed. So let's Let's do this without any further ado Today, we're going to be covering several topics Today including the NCAA tournament that happened back in March both the men's and women's We'll talk a little bit about the NFL draft the start of the baseball season again We'll probably do this in more chronological order, but I'm just letting you know what we're catching up on today We'll be talking about the NBA and NHL playoffs that may have already gone with a bang So far and then of course, we'll have a little talk about Aaron Rodgers and Lamar Jackson that they have been their contracts and their situations have been some of the more talked about things in football We actually are also going to be talking WrestleMania as well, but I'm actually going to give that a special review along with the Just took place yesterday and now I'll upload that podcast After this one here, so if you're a big wrestling fan We're going to dedicate that particular podcast to the WWE and their activity Especially with WrestleMania as well as the backlash show, which I watched last night and I tell you That was amazing props to the crowd and 7-1 Puerto Rico Y'all were y'all were fire baby. Y'all was straight fire. So Props to y'all but we'll cover that in the next podcast as well. So let's get started. Let's talk about the NCAA tournament props to the champs Yukon Huskies for the men who have won. I can't believe it National championship and I've been around and I've seen them all it's like you compare to the UCLA in Kentucky Which one all of these championships like long before I was born, but the Yukon men I have seen these championships All the way back starting in 1999 to most recently in 2023 Stars that have come out of that program over the years have just been just been amazing I've met the open for What why am I drawing like Ray Allen he was probably the first Yukon star I really got a chance to see and along those awesome battles. They had with Alan Iverson in the Georgetown Hoyas There Has just been some wonderful stars and they continue to come out in March and they continue to dominate and Going through this NCAA tournament You'd have you have your noble upset shout out the fairly Dickinson big 16 beating on one The second time now that's happened In history, of course, that's all been within the past four years UVA being the first to lose the UMBC But I tell you what? To Purdue and I know they had a lot of great things happening for him this year They talked a lot about Virginia moving to the 16th seat Well, they don't talk about is Virginia winning the national championship the next year So just keep that in mind as I know they'll be hungry to go back into the season next season To the next season and look at you know, see what exactly went wrong and that's you know When you look at the March Madness tournament, that's the beauty of this tournament the chaos of this tournament is in this beauty and This goes on to how hard it is to win a championship Since for six games, you got to be perfect or at least better than what your opponent has and that is hard And it means as Lord knows one bad night you're out one unbelievable night from your opponent and you're out so It you know for these programs, especially for the Yukon's which in the midst of all the chaos were able to stay focused Much props to coach Dan Hurley. I hope I got that one, right? And to the Yukon man, they did a fabulous fabulous job They weren't the story, you know, weren't they? We'll have to hop on the women's side of the bracket for that one Congratulations the angry the value Barbie, which my opinion best nickname in sports and the rest of the lady LSU Tigers who have won their first national championship and coach Kim Maltese her second and again Unbelievable tournament the last time we were talking to you guys. We thought South Carolina, you know Don't don't feel me and I know she'll be back her and Aaliyah Boston they have been dominating for the past couple of years shout out to Aaliyah Boston who was the number one draft pick and For the WNBA draft and I know she's just going to be absolutely Amazing, but to the LSU Tigers a wonderful job a wonderful game Absolutely unbelievable game between them and the Iowa Hawkeyes and and of course the big story that came out of that was Kaitlyn Clark and Angel Reese and they have their Yeah, they have their moments of trash talk and everything else like that And I get that this is a little outdated because it hasn't been talked about as much but I still wanted to address it here I have a lot of respect for keep over there I've been watching him as long as I can remember on ESPN and I usually agree with some of his comments but I thought his comments about Angel Reese will just completely out of line and I think this the whole topic that came out of that is, you know, can women trash talk, you know, you know a black white thing it Caused so many And I let me just say this the angel Reese you do you girl you You know John Cena. Well, you thought he was the first one to do that, but you can't see me thing, but I tell you You know, you did your thing on the court. You ain't hurt. Nobody and anything else like that Some people are gonna have a problem with it, you know, Kaitlyn Clark did it as well But we can't see that's the problem with criticism If it doesn't if it's not consistent You you know people can take it a certain way and again with Kaitlyn Clark did it in the NCAA tournament? Nobody got a thing to say Angel Reese comes back and back and do it and She's a punk. She's a chump. She's all of these things and I tell you very pointed and And those members of the media who came at her like that, I thought that was pretty classless and Just just really uncalled for but to her credit She's been on doing her thing on the media tour Kaitlyn Clark has as well and they really handled it like champions and Much credit much love to those ladies and their teams the way they represent their teams. They'll be back next year and I can only hope that we get to run this back next year because this was not just a great story and that That's a great, but it was a great game and it wasn't I mean, I think it was the highest-rated Women's championship game ever. So I hope we get to run that back and I hope women's basketball continues to build off Of that amazing tournament because quite frankly you need quite frankly it can need it needs those stories and you know again, no disrespect or hatred, but it could use some drama and could use some anticipation and this was a Great case of folks so much love to the women Especially to the LSU Tigers who are the national champions and they'll get to carry that over into next year What else did we miss we missed the start of the baseball season and I tell you it's been fun. It I don't watch the Tampa Bay Rays They get there that's given baseball right now with 35 games in and teams are starting to get Settled in now, but the first month of baseball is over now We started to hit those walk those dog days of summer and you're going to start to seeing you know How well these teams are going to be and you get the chance to have it You know get that good look of them and how well they will continue to develop throughout the year and I tell you they look Like a team that is going to be a beast and but quite frankly, they're not going to be alone But you know, I'm looking at the standings now The AL East and For those who don't know those are the Tampa Bay Rays the New York Yankees the Boston Red Sox the Toronto Blue Jays and my favorite team of Baltimore Orioles and oh my goodness gracious They're all above 500 and it's only going to get better I'm telling you this now and as an Orioles fan and to see where the AL East is and the fact that the Orioles are Not just hanging in there But they're in second place now and you got to see a little bit is Towards the end of last season as they were making a run to the playoffs push But now they are they've got that team now, that's what it looks to move forward So I'm really excited not just about my favorite team the Orioles But just following the AL East which um Looks like it's just going to be an amazing Amazing division down the stretch and I can only only imagine what the trade deadline is Going to look like at the end of July As far as teams, you know where they are attention and where they're going to be looking to compete for that For it now, but yeah, maybe if you don't weigh on my mind for a chance to be cool world series last year's World Series participants the Houston Astros are 17 and 17 quite surprising for them. They have been the pillar of Baseball excellence. I know they have the cheating thing So I mean you got to include that but when you look at them as a whole For the past like half decade to a decade they have been baseball's Most consistent team so I'm pretty sure they're going to turn that back around even at 17 and 17 They're only three games out of the division right now So I anticipate them to be back in it the Philadelphia Phillies on the other hand. Yikes 16 and 19. There are eight games behind the brave still plenty of time. That's the beauty of this Baseball it is not a it is not a spring but it is indeed a marathon But they're gonna have to get their running shoes going to at least compete back of the Atlanta Braves they have been able to Re-establish that dominance for so long days in one of those up-and-down teams and these and I was there. I saw them in the To the early the back of the real the whole decade in the 90s and where they were just the National League Elite team so over the past couple of years. They started to get that back and have really Re-established itself as one of the elite teams not just in the National League But in the national and it's faithful as a whole so looking forward to seeing where they will go Moving forward as well the Los Angeles Dodgers a lot of people favorites to go back to the World Series They are 20 and 14 first place of the LVL of the NL West With a happy over the Arizona Diamondbacks, so a lot more to come throughout this season But again, if you haven't been to a stadium, you haven't been to a game live Please get an opportunity to do so the clock the clock rule is just been fabulous the pitch clock the baddest clutch that has been one of the best improvements in Baseball and again, they don't solve all the problems if people will still say all baseball still tough to watch You know on TV and things like that, but it really does help it has really helped and it's made the game more precise and more More efficient and you can still have study you still have certain things But we're not wasting time now in between pitches and that is which can really drag out a game So kudos to Major League Baseball for actually getting that, you know being a head on on this as well Even though it's been an issue for a long time Congratulations for addressing it and I think it is starting to show now in the quality of Of the baseball games as well and looking forward to how the rest of the season will take place All right. Also, hey, let's let's talk playoff The NBA and NHL playoffs have been and it's been amazing But there are a couple of things I want to address on this sorry for my capitals They did not make a playoffs this year It's going to be interesting to see how they're going to look to build up and kind of Readjust themselves, especially for Alexander Ovechkin. It was coming towards the tail end of his Unbelievable career and this is going to be a question. I'm gonna ask to my more my local DMV players and I know this is hard because it's hot, right? But we gotta consider Alexander Ovechkin one of the greatest athletes who have ever represented at Washington DC professional sports team Well, where would be breaking he's got his Stanley Cup and we know there are a lot of rescue slash commanders That would probably go there in front of him I'm thinking about our ball off the top of my head But when you look at where he is in retrospective sport, he's one of the greatest that has ever done it So I would be very curious to ask that to um to my local Washingtonians Where the valentino that's gonna make the greatest professional athlete that have ever worn a DC jersey, so what you know, let's think about that. Let's talk about that a little bit later as well as far as the playoffs go Unbelievable start to the NBA playoffs The Miami Heat won a job by them. They've gone from playing to now I believe they're up to one in the series against the Knicks. They knocked out the top seed the Milwaukee Bucks so bad that they got Mike Bowden's coach blood fire and I got off on that but And the Heat right now Jimmy Bucket Jimmy Butler what what more can you say about Jimmy Butler that we haven't said already and for them being the 18 Let's just remember like it's in the bubble. They made the NBA pot Last year, they were right there Competing for a spot in the NBA final the eight that number eight is misleading because Miami's been ready to ball for a while and I think right now they are Looking like a team that is gonna head back of all things Well, it looks like we might be headed for a rematch between the Celtics and he With the winner going back to the NBA finals The 76ers did did win today. So that's you this time. So it will be very interesting now as that theory goes back to Boston To see how well they compete. But again, I personally hoping for a Miami Boston Final matchup and then of course on the west side with the Nuggets They are trying to prove once and for all they are an elite team. They have been that top seed for a while I Really haven't had a lot of playoff success. They're up to one. I Do expect them to go to the Western Conference finals? And I think they're really ready to show that they do belong and that upper echelon of TV They have a record just not to play off success Speaking of that, let's talk about that other theory. Oh Lakers and Warriors, I you know as LeBron Steph You kind of asked for much more and a playoff series and again, don't worry about the next Don't worry about that little number six and that little number seven Yes He's these are two of the best teams in the NBA this season and it is just fun to watch These two teams go at it and Just the royalty that's on that court Somebody from that game is a step of LeBron But one of their series is going to have a drive for five and I tell you what for championships and it's just phenomenal Obviously in the modern era six is where you want to be with Jordan Five puts you in a special category to with guys like Kobe and I tell you for the main Five in the NBA five NBA championship, I do feel can put you on another level now again I think their Hall of Fame careers already said and so there are already the two of the 75 top NBA players of all time So nothing is going to establish that but I do believe perception Good to change a little bit again when you look at four championships to five Look, I this is the series I've looked for or to get into a while And I'm really excited about it Lakers are up now two games to one in that series They'll go back to LA on Monday and was a big opportunity for the Lakers Who had not lost at home in the playoffs to go three one and look to start to punch their ticket to the Western Conference? final Haven't really watched to be honest, I have not watched a lot of NHL files I did see the Bruins get beat and the Bruins President's Trophy winners best team and in hockey in a such a long time I mean that regular season dominance was amazing, but they've lost to the Florida Panthers And it goes back to what we talked about earlier, right? It is difficult to win a championship now again with the success they had They were supposed to go a lot further But sometimes you can't you went into that wrong team It's a wrong time and it don't matter how good your record is But kudos to the Panthers for getting them out and for Boston you know the great thing about the great thing about life is When you get knocked down And it's so much sweeter when you get back up and when you can show the world what you're about and again I would equate them to the Denver to the Denver Nuggets all some regular season success, but Struggling in the playoffs, but I think Boston it'll be interesting to see again. I'm not no hockey expert I just love I do love the NHL playoffs We'll probably look to do a little special when it comes to the Stanley Cup finals. It's I to me I just love the Stanley Cup Finals, I love the presentation. I love everything about it But again big setback for the Boston Celtics But again teams great teams are indeed resilient and I expect them to come back as well So to adjust a quick preview of the NHL playoffs right now. I saw Tampa Bay is out. They They were the end they were the Eastern Conference Champions like for three years running so for For them to lose that's a bit of a shock as well So look again big surprises coming out of the NHL playoffs but again, I'm more excited about when we get to the finals when we get to that championship round and And just seeing the trophy and just seeing the intensity of the games the playoffs are just so intense But I tell you Nick to me. I know I did not know how much I would be and it's just a wake-up playoff Until just being able to watch it and enjoy it The past couple of years the Rangers when they won their title back in 94 was one of the first Stanley Cups I got to see and I got to see the excitement in the passion of the other Rangers fans of course go back to 2019 in the Capitals they won their championship and oh what a moment. I tell you what a sweet moment By then to have the National and the Caps win championship boy, you see, you know, we got it going to happen and that Great time. So again looking forward to next month when they start to get to those Conference finals and then ultimately the Stanley Cup In in June and finally today. Let's talk about a little bit about the NFL The Aaron Rodgers trade finally went done that went down thank God Lamar Jackson got paid. Thank God the NFL draft happened. So let's kind of take these things a little bit in the chronological order Aaron Rodgers that the trade made officially is now a chance The AFC this year. I don't think as long as I've been watching has ever been This lovely I Mean you got 17 that can qualify for the playoffs you got teams that you got the vision that you've seen three or four teams already, so I When you look at Aaron Rodgers does he makes the jets relevant? He makes them a part of the conversation that they haven't been in a while They the thought is this is going to be like Tom Brady back in 2020. They've got the weapons in place but we're gonna find out who any very simple thing New York Jets and great as good as they've been built They're not the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Aaron Rodgers, it's not Tom Brady Aaron Rodgers is as a leader of a quarterback and enter He's going to have a chip on him like no other and I even think that yet still may make the playoffs But I don't think they're going to equate to the same success as a Tampa Bay Buccaneers in part Talking about Josh Allen, it's a fun day when you're talking about Miami to an entire week. I mean It's one of the adults like every week just to get out of the AFC East Speaking of which let's go to the AFC. He's yours Let's talk about LeBron Jackson highest paid player NFL history Um Let's think Taylor hurts for that because Taylor hurts have that title very briefly but It'll like him shout out to Taylor hurts. He deserves every every every penny of that and so does Lamar Jackson Um, he's going to be stepping into the Baltimore Ravens team, which always has a great defense Probably the most Offensive weapons he's ever had in his career with Mark Andrews at tight end OBJ Dave Flowers their new draftee on the outside J. Take dominance as a running back that Team it offensively. I don't think it's ever had this much firepower including a quarterback That is as special as Lamar Jackson That's being said But I said for the East can be expanded double for the North I've got Four teams in that division that are going to be as competitive as anything now They're still they're still Cincinnati, which I never thought these words would come out of my mouth But they're the elite of that division. It's still the elite of that division. They still have the best quarterback They still have the best weapons. They still have a good defense That is still the class of that division you got Baltimore underneath them Sean Watson No more no suspension. No half-season. He gets to do the full training camp, and I think he gets to show the world why? He was still the most sought-after quarterback the idea We're not talking about none of that personal stuff is or knows that is as slimy as anything But he's still An elite quarterback and then you have the Steelers who a lot of people really like their dress Can can you pick it be that guy? Right now because again the field got some weapons to that. They got they got fire me. They got GP are you with me George Pickens? They got Najee Harris. They got Deontay Johnson They have weapons they have and that division is going to be so competitive The Steelers the way they finished out last year in this and that division The rivalry that is going to be safe. It's just that AFC North May be the best division and football definitely shaping up to be the most competitive Division in football you and then we were just talking about all the AFC Patrick Mahomes, unfortunately for our AFC fans It's still it's still with the Chiefs that that guy is a standard all to himself Justin Herbert, he is just shaping up to be a very special quarterback. He's in there He'll be in the West as well the South Yeah, Trevor Lawrence And I expect him that is the only I think the vision winner. We can almost Stay today. I Of course, it'll be interesting to see what they do with their new new quarterback Anthony Richardson Champ Tennessee looks like one of the few AFC teams that look like they're standing up for a step back and The Texans they had they themselves had a very good draft. I don't think they're a year or two away So who's going to come out of the AFC? The drafts were great on that side the quarterback that I've never seen the AFC so Loaded and now it's got two of the against and Resigned one of the premier quarterbacks in the game of the March action and one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time I'll trade it from the NFC to the AFC. So that wrapped that he was good to the NFL draft Again, a lot of people like what the Steelers do did in this draft Of course a lot of people love with Eagles Did in this draft as well? I And I don't think it can be understated enough the importance of the draft when you look at the past couple of years Let's take out the Rams the athletes Take out the Rams that won the Super Bowl, but let's talk about the Rams that Made the Super Bowl against the Patriots. That's kind of like one of those team That's kind of like that tickets away now in the NFL hair on that draft Especially the quarterback has never been bigger than it is right now in the salary cap era Because that quarterback will never have as much value as a franchise as he does if he's been playing and an elite level at the cheapest price Because before you take him on this money if you can put him in a situation Where he can thrive and you can put those other pieces around him The things that you can do and the things that can be built It can't be stated how important the draft is now and I think again the thing we're trying to hit They're trying to use that thing trying to use that same path with Kenny Pickens and being able to build around him and Trying to get him to that Super Bowl. He'll burrow the same and it's going to be interesting as We look at this draft how well it's going to be very impactful for the year But when we talk about winning for the draft that'll still come out another two or three years from now nothing You know, it's hard it's it's easy to do that for television purposes and everything else like that But the true winners of draft are not decided as in two three or four years from now so again kudos To the Steelers and their draft kudos to Lamar Jackson for getting his money Kudos Aaron Jackson to getting traded brother. I cannot wait now. I the schedule I think is released this Thursday I can't wait to see who is playing where and let the road to the Super Bowl be shown to us all Let's get it started. Let's get it popping. Let's get it cracking, baby And I think we're good I Think we kind of caught up a little bit on what we've missed These last couple of weeks.
