Ida B. Wells was a journalist, activist, and co-founder of the NAACP. She fought for the rights of black people and documented lynchings in the US. Garrett Morgan Sr. was an inventor and businessman. He invented hair straightening products, a safety hood for firefighters and miners, and a precursor to the modern traffic light. Both Ida B. Wells and Garrett Morgan Sr. made significant contributions to history. Hi, what's up y'all? So today we are going to be doing Ida B. Wells and Garrett Morgan Sr. on our history. So, Ida B. Wells was born on July 16, 1862 in Holly Springs, Mississippi. She was a journalist, a newspaper editor, human rights activist, and women's rights activist. She co-founded the NAACP, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, in 1909. Now, I will turn it over to my friend William. She documented lynching in the United States in the 1890s. She bought a portion of the Memphis Newspaper, the Free Speech, and Headlight and used it as her platform to champion black people's rights. That was Ida B. Wells, our steaming hero, and she was born on July 16, 1862 and died on March 25, 1931. Now, we will be doing Garrett Morgan Sr. I will first let William do this. Garrett Morgan Sr. He was an American inventor, businessman, and community leader. Garrett was born on March 4, 1877 in Paris, Tennessee. Throughout his life, Garrett Morgan invented several products. In 1905, he discovered chemical hair straightening cream and the hair straightening comb. In 1909, he opened up J.M. Morgan Hair Refining Company. In 1910, it was in 1910, buddy. In 1914, Morgan patented a breathing device or safety hood, as he called it, which helped firefighters and coal miners. In 1923, Garrett invented a new kind of traffic light, which became a precursor to the modern three-way traffic light. This was Garrett Morgan Sr. spelled G-A-R-R-E-T-T-M-O-R-G-A-N-S-R, which stands for Sr. He was born March 4, 1877 and died July 27, 1963. Thank you.
