In 2023, the Australian cricket team had a successful year with several wins and trophies. They won a home series against South Africa, had a competitive series in India but couldn't capitalize on strong positions, won a one-day series in India, claimed their maiden Test Championship mace, cheated in the Ashes but still ended up winning the series, had a T20 sweep in South Africa but lost the ODI series, lost a series in India before winning the World Cup, had a loss in a T20 series against India, and currently have a 2-0 lead in a Test series against Pakistan. Overall, they had 25 wins, 16 losses, and achieved 6 wins out of 10 attempts in series and tournaments, adding several trophies to their cabinet. Having done an England 2023 review, I think it's only morally right that I do the same for the Australian cricket side. 2023 started off finishing a home series and winning 2-0 versus South Africa in January. Following this was a trip to India in which they were competitive but couldn't capitalise on strong positions to go down 2-1. Following this series they play a one day series still in India, this time getting the win 2-1. Then it was Test Championship time, which saw the Aussies claim their maiden mace at the overall. Staying in England for the Ashes, the Aussies cheated and morally lost. Despite this, still ended up going home with the urn. Hmm. A 2-2 drawn all-time classic series. A trip to South Africa yielded a 3-0 T20 sweep, however a 3-2 loss would follow in the ODI series. A trip to India for World Cup preparation saw a 2-1 series loss before one of the great moments in Australian cricket. A World Cup win in India with 9 wins and 2 losses, including finals. Some pointless T20 matches were then played with Australia and India B rolling around in a Mickey Mouse series where the Aussies would go down 4-1. Finally returning home and back to Test cricket, the Aussies currently hold a 2-0 lead over a plucky Pakistan side. Overall what a year. Despite technically only playing 3 home matches, the Aussies were able to achieve 25 wins and 16 losses with a handful of draws. During this time there were 6 series and tournament wins from 10 attempts. A World Test Championship mace, Ashes urn and World Cup trophy were all added to the Aussies' illustrious trophy cabinet in 2023.
