Hey, I'm Tamia. I'm Akira. I'm Tori. I'm Aimee. And let's be realistic. We all have been worried about our futures before. It's scary, but it's also exciting. These moments right now in our lives are what sets us up for our futures. It's important to have dreams and aspirations, because if you didn't, what would you be working towards? We often don't realize that what we do now will affect us in the future, and that's why it's so important to talk about your plans and see if it fits with the journey that you're headed towards. It's okay to dream big, but the key to everything is to be realistic. Be realistic with yourself in the moment. Remember, you're working towards your own goals, so don't beat yourself up because you aren't where you want to be. It's all going to be okay. You have to be realistic in your means. You have to be realistic with your life. And remember, at the end of the day, it all pays off. We can use our present days to work hard and get up and try every day, because when you look back at these times, you'll be happy you kept going. You can do anything you believe in as long as you put the hard work in. It won't just come to you, and we all believe in that. I'm here featuring our special guest, Emmy. Say hello, Emmy. Hi. We got a couple questions for you today. First, we're going to start off with, what are your future plans after high school? My future plans after high school is when I graduate, I'll most likely, nine times out of ten, will be attending Parkland College for my first two years in my own place, and then from there, I'll transfer to a four-year, which will be in HBCU. So you talked about having your own place. Can you walk me through the process of doing that? How did that go? Man, that shit was stressful. So you started off young. I started off really young, but with my whole apartment search, I started to want apartments in like January, February, and then I found which apartment I wanted to live in, and then from there, I put in an application. But things kind of got tricky, because at first, I put in my income with my school schedule, and with apartments, you've got to make three times the rent to income qualify. So the first time I applied, I was like a couple dollars short, so I worked more over spring break and submitted that pay stub. And at first, I wanted a specific floor plan, but with the income qualification problems, I was like, fuck it. Like, I'm not about to keep stressing myself out to like get the specific floor plan that I wanted. So I changed the floor plan that I wanted, and by that time, I income qualified. So I got a phone call, and I got accepted into the apartment, and I moved into the apartment. I love that for you. Thank you. Thank you so much. No comment? All right. So next, mostly, what do you want to be? You talked about going to Parkland, and then going to a four-year HBCU. What do you plan on to pursue? What are you going to major in, and why are you going to go to college? And what do you want to be after you finish college? So I plan on majoring in psychology, and I plan on minoring in criminal justice or political science, either or. It doesn't matter. But at first, I really wanted to be a forensic psychologist, but that takes 10 years, and I don't got 10 years to get into the education system. I already gave my life. I wouldn't go for that. No. I already gave the education system 12 years of my life. I can't do 10. So I made a decision to be a jury consultant because I just want to be in law, and I do want to incorporate psychology into my occupation. How long does it take to get your degree, I suppose? That would take six years, so I would just have to get my master's. You're getting 16 years of your life. I can't do that. I'm already past that. I can't wait to graduate. Now, if that doesn't work out, do you have a backup plan or a plan B that you would want to pursue? With the type of person I am, ain't no plan B. I'm doing what I'm doing. Yeah, you got to have that mindset when you're growing up. Yeah, ain't no plan B. I'm doing what I want to do, and I'm going to get it by the end. If you put that work in, you're going to get to whatever you want to do in life. Yeah. It just takes dedication and hard work. Now, in 10 years, that's not late, 10 years from today, 10 years from May 1st, 2024, 2.05 p.m., what would a typical day look like for you? So, in 10 years, I'll be 29. So, when I'm 29, I envision myself being, like, the rich auntie because I don't want no damn kids. I don't want no kids. So, by that time, I want to be traveling the world. I'm not against marriage, but it's not something I'm looking forward to. Like, some people, their aspirations in life is to have kids, get married, do all that. Me, personally, I'm not that type. I'm trying to be the man in a relationship. Me, personally, I want to be a housewife. Like, in the future, though. Right now? Yeah. But the only reason I would want to be a housewife is, like... Not to sit around all day. Yeah, because I don't want to be, like, I want to go to school, but it's, like, at the same time, I don't want to because we... Like, after I've had enough of my career, I'm done. Yeah, we've been at school... I'm ready to sit down with my man. We've been at school for 12 years now. Like, at this point, it's getting tiring, but at the same time, like, I want my own. It's not going to pay off. Yeah, I want my own. And I got to get out of the showcase. Of course. Do you see yourself leaving Champaign, or are you going to stay here? Absolutely. I'm leaving Champaign in two years. Right after me. Most likely, like, Texas, Georgia. I'm going to be in the South. I know I'm going to be in the South because HBCUs are primarily in the South. I love y'all, but I'm leaving Champaign in, like, six months. I know that. We're proud of you. We're proud of you.
