The 48 Laws of Power has a law called "discover each man's thumbscrew". This means that everyone has a weakness or vulnerability that can be exploited. It could be an insecurity, an emotion, a need, or even a secret pleasure. Once you find this weakness, you can use it to your advantage. In the 48 Laws of Power, Law 33 states, discover each man's thumbscrew. Everyone has a weakness, a gap in the castle wall. That weakness is usually an insecurity, an uncontrollable emotion or need.
