Titus Maccius Plautus

Titus Maccius Plautus

Plautus, also called Titus Maccius Plautus, was a playwright from ancient Rome who lived during the Old Latin period. He is known for his comedies, which are the oldest complete works in Latin literature that have survived. Plautus wrote in the Palliata comoedia genre, which was invented by Livius Andronicus, a pioneer of Latin literature. Today, the term "Plautine" is used to describe both Plautus's own plays and works that are similar to or influenced by his style.
