one more night To say goodbye That is a brand-new single out to radio for Audra McLachlan called One More Night She is an alumni artist of season number six of NBC's The Voice Team Blake And she has an amazing voice, doesn't she, ladies and gentlemen? And before that, it was another great song called I Don't Want to Feel the Sun We'll probably all be saying that in a month or two when the heat and humidity kick in for summertime And we'll have one more from Audra McLachlan here in just a moment But I want to tell you she's going to be live with me on a new Music Friday edition of the Tim Kelly Show That is going to air on May the 24th And you don't want to miss that great interview She is super talented And we got to actually meet her September the 30th in St. Louis, Missouri when I hosted Freedom Jam USA last year as well She is a fantastic performer live on stage And so if you get a chance, go see Audra McLachlan in a live show We've got a great live show right now going on on Triple Play Thursday And after one more from Audra McLachlan we're going to have my first special guest with us tonight the great John Barry So you're in for a treat on that Stay tuned Sad Song and a Cowboy is the title of the third song from Audra McLachlan on the Tim Kelly Show from KICR, Indie Country Radio New Country's Best on Triple Play Thursday She was a right-of-way kind Loving and leaving back to the wind Not looking back kind Never seeing her reaching across the bed For him with a fevered eye She was a hopeful soul Holding on to nothing, believing It was something worth a pound Watching that horizon break And she'll find him in a trail of smoke But she won't He's gone like the summer wind And says it's winter Time will disappear Right into the sun He wrote her a song It truly is only Of the life she's the only Like she's the only one He was born and raised in a party never had to end At the job of a sad song And a cowboy So it's been that way The power of a kiss will keep her wanting him long after When it breaks A happy ending's always pretend And they'll say one day He won't change He's gone like the summer wind And says it's winter Time will disappear Right into the sun He wrote her a song It truly is only Of the life she's the only Like she's the only one He was born and raised in a party never had to end At the job of a sad song And a cowboy Where he belongs And I can't fall He's gone like the summer wind And says it's winter Time will disappear Into the sun He wrote her a song It truly is only Of the life she's the only Like she's the only one He was born and raised in a party never had to end At the job of a sad song And a cowboy He was born and raised in a party never had to end At the job of a sad song And a cowboy You're listening to The Tim Kelly Show on KICR, IndyCountryRadio.com From Branson, Missouri, the live show capital of the world Tonight is Triple Play Thursday Where every artist gets played three times in a row And I'm excited to play three from this next gentleman But first we're going to interview him and get to hear the stories behind his songs He is John Barry, how are you tonight my friend? I'm so good I can hardly believe it's me Man, I'm glad it's you I appreciate having you on tonight And I've been looking forward to this one for a while I don't want to make you feel old or anything But I have loved your music for a very long time You're awesome Well, I appreciate that, but yeah, I am old I'll be 65 this year Okay, I'll be 62 this year So we're getting close That makes two of us, we're both old That's right I'm getting ready to embark This month finishes 12 years of The Tim Kelly Show So I'm getting ready to embark on lucky number 13, let's say Yeah You actually started when you were about 13 I was looking at your bio, playing guitar at the age of 13 Yeah, my older brother played And so I thought it would be pretty cool to learn how to play Because he wouldn't teach me nothing, you know how older brothers are Yeah But my mama taught me three chords One of them wasn't right, but it was close But the other two were And so she taught me a little gospel song and I played that forever Wow And then I started learning some more songs I kept playing and learning more songs I'm still not much of a guitar player, I promise you that But I love to sing and I love to write some songs every now and then It's pretty cool Yeah, you are definitely a vocalist Your Love Amazes Me is a great song It amazes me how well that song is still doing to this day It's got millions of views on YouTube And I've got a little surprise for you I started a TV channel a while back for the Independent Artist, of course That's what I play mainly But I love the classics And 90s country is really what got me into doing country radio When I lived in southeast Oklahoma, in Ada, Oklahoma Where actually Blake Shelton is from So I started CCTV, which is classic country television And I've got Your Love Amazes Me, the video to it Playing in rotation 24-7 on our TV channel Come on Yeah, love it I love it We've also got the great Charlie Daniels With the Charlie Daniels Band on there Hal Ketchum I've seen you performed with both of those folks In a rendition of Long Hair Country Boy Man, what a fun day that was You know, if anybody sees that video Of me and Mr. Hal and Mr. Charlie And you look at it and go Well, it looks like they're having a lot of fun You know what, we were I bet, yep We had the best time And we're in that There's some scenes, there's a picture of us Video of us in this room Look at this, some guitars And that's Charlie's guitar vault He's got more guitars than you could He could open up a guitar center Isn't that something? It was unbelievable the number of instruments he had In cases in that warehouse It's a big barn they had on his farm there That's where they recorded all his albums That is neat, man I love hearing that A couple of Christmases ago My wife bought me a Christmas present That was the memoir of Charlie Daniels And it's called Don't Look at the Empty Seats Because he believes Whether there's 200 people out there Or 20,000 He's going to put on the same kind of quality show And that's the kind of guy he was Yeah, every now and then we'll do a show And it might not be as many tickets sold as we want And when we start to walk out on stage My wife sings with me She'll grab my hand and she'll say Don't forget what Charlie said Don't sing to the empty seats I love that, man, that is cool Sing to the people who came Yep, absolutely And I never know who's listening to this radio show But I kind of get an inclination by the emails that I get And I got one from Scott Sexton That asked me if I would like to interview the great John Barry And I was definitely on board for that So I want to thank him for that And 2911 Media that he works with as well Now with the great technology that we have today I saw that you were also able to do a duet With the late, great Patsy Cline How about that? Yeah, that was a number of years ago I bet they've even gotten perfected so much more now But her husband came to Capitol Records a number of years ago And in discussions he said Listen, Patsy always wanted to sing with a big band She's always loved big band music And the record labels were not interested They said, no, you're a country singer You don't sing country music You can't cross the genre lines, you know And so since... And he came to the label and said Is there any way that we could build new tracks around her? Is there any technology available? And somebody said there is And what they could do is They could actually lift her voice off the track And erase all the other instruments And that was quite a feat Because they only recorded one channel If the drummer was too loud, they'd back him up They didn't turn him down, they backed him up If the bass wasn't loud enough They'd move him closer to the microphone And that's how they recorded those old records But they actually got in there and scrubbed those tracks And left nothing but her voice And they built new tracks around the songs And laid her voice in there And it was so awesome When I got there, I got to listen through to hear her sing To hear her sing, it was like it was always meant to be like that It just sounded like that And so I sang a song called There He Goes And got to sing the line The key wasn't quite the best for me But it didn't matter It was just awesome just to get to have that experience We love that new technology they used to do that I watched one that Elvis Presley got to do with his daughter Lisa Marie And sadly she has passed now too But there's a great rendition of In the Ghetto That Elvis does with Lisa Marie in there with technology And also the great Martina McBride is singing with Elvis Because of the technology I've seen that on YouTube too, so it's pretty cool That's awesome And we have had you making records since age 19 You were making records and had your own record label I guess Yeah, I've been doing my own records for a long time I did six hit records before I got a record deal with Capitol And then I did... I'm not quite exactly sure how many I've done over the years But I did a handful of Capitol I did one with Lyric Street I did two with Ark 21 out of Los Angeles And then I started doing them on my own again I've done a few of them since then So I don't know if I've done around 30 or 40 records over the years That is awesome, man You're definitely a hit with me And I love that 90's country like I was telling you That's what got me into country music And wanting to do country radio Because I started out DJing 80's music back in the 80's That's when I went to broadcasting school When I lived in San Diego But when I married my first wife in Oklahoma And everybody's listening to that 90's country I'm like, I've got to do this country radio thing So, I love it Yours has also gotten recognition to the point Where you've even won a Grammy for it back in 1996 Yeah, I got to be a part of a record called Country Sleuths of Gospel I was on album number 2 And I sang Blessed Assurance on that record I guess that was number 1 Country Sleuths of Gospel And I sang Blessed Assurance And that album got a Grammy award So I was a participant on that, yeah So that was pretty cool That is awesome Now, let's move forward to 2017 It says you launched a new weekly Internationally syndicated TV show It was called Songs and Stories And I love that because I call these interviews The stories behind the songs That's what I get to hear And the folks get to hear when we do the interviews And you did it for a couple of seasons But you had great people on there Like Billy Dean, he's performed here in Branson Billy Ray Cyrus, we've got Mo Pitney I've met Neil McCoy here in Branson Colin Ray's been here Craig Morgan, Mark Wills, Delbert McClinton from Texas Clay Walker's been here Leroy Parnell, that's some good stuff Oh yeah, man It was always a lot of fun We had some great people on that show We're trying to see if there's a way we can Revive the show again And see how we can pull it off It's a lot of fun The big thing is The royalties for TV are Outrageously high To pay for the licensing To use the songs It's so expensive It's prohibitive to do it So we're trying to figure out how we can do it Make it where everybody wins But nobody's going to win if we can't put the show out there If we can't have the shows And people play the songs That's the way it is That's what keeps me going I've stepped away from this a couple of times But I keep coming back I think we're going to win If we don't play this country music That needs to be heard Especially this next generation That are keeping traditional country music alive I love that You've got some good ones Absolutely I'm looking at season number two You had Brian White on there I work with his folks at Brick Shore Media John Schneider, I interviewed him Before his wife passed last year The great Terry Clark, Darryl Wardley I met her at Silver Dollar City When she was doing Bluegrass and Barbecue They do that every year And she performs out there That's awesome And then Blaine Howard My good friend Blaine Howard I play him all the time I actually went to junior high school With his mom in Fort Scott, Kansas Yeah, I met Blaine And he and his band Came and played And we played And he and his band Came and entertained us At my son's wedding They put on a good show And everybody there had a great time And danced the night away That was a good evening That is awesome Now you were born in South Carolina But you were raised in Georgia So I've interviewed a lot of artists That are from Georgia Dallas, Georgia is one of the towns I didn't know there was a Dallas Georgian Great country music Comes out of Georgia, doesn't it? There's a bunch, man All kinds of music And of course I grew up listening To all kinds of music Including pop music, R&B music And one of my favorite things Was Solar Rock and All Them Brothers from Macon And that's a great, great bunch there I lived most of my life In Athens, Georgia Alternative music really kicked off With R.E.M. and B-52s And a couple of other groups Some well known, some not as well known But very influential And Athens was a great music bed And a lot of great music Coming out of Athens, Georgia Boy, isn't that the truth I love that In Branson they call it The live show capital of the world Based on how many theater seats are here I don't know if you knew this There's more theater seats in Branson Than there is in Broadway in New York City That's a bunch of seats Yeah, this little town of 10,000 A couple of years ago you were doing Some Christmas shows with Rhonda Vinson At the Andy Williams Theater My brother was his TV producer And did his Christmas commercials For a couple of years When he was doing his shows in Branson For 19 seasons Andy Williams was here Yeah, I was a guest on Rhonda's show For a couple of nights That was a lot of fun And it was right when we were getting ready We left there and came straight to rehearsals Here in Nashville And we've been doing our Christmas show This past year was our 27th year We've been doing Christmas tours And so I'll come up on 28th And that's always a lot of fun That was a lot of fun being a part of Rhonda's show She does a terrific job And she's back there again this season Y'all don't miss going to see her now She's awesome Absolutely, I love her and her husband Herb They do a lot of Facebook lives And they're out there on their boat together Fishing and he's a pretty good cook too He can cook it up in the kitchen Yeah I'm sure he's got a t-shirt Or 12 t-shirts That say I'd rather be fishing Yeah, exactly Well I have had a great time Talking to you so far but let's play some music Let's hear the story behind Your Love Amazes Me The song that has done so well for you over the years Well that was written by Chuck Jones And Amanda Hunt-Taylor And Amanda got married To this wonderful man And their relationship Inspired the title for the song And she got together with Chuck And they wrote it And the first time I heard it Chuck had recorded it for a songwriter Demo reel And I'd written a couple songs for Chuck And he gave me this demo reel Of maybe 10 or 15 songs And Your Love Amazes Me was on there I called up my Label rep at Capitol when I was Hunting songs for my first record And I said man I got this one Chuck Jones wrote Called Your Love Amazes Me And he said I'll take that one And he called me back and he said man Tanya Tucker's got it on hold for her next record I said well something happened You put me down for the second hold on it So if she doesn't use it I'm first in line We were both on Capitol At the time And she turned her record in And a few weeks later completed And Your Love Amazes Me wasn't on there So I feel very fortunate I got to record it Cause she'd have had a hit with it And trust me She don't let me forget it either Every time I speak to Tanya Tucker She says she look at me And point that finger at me Don't you forget you owe me Chuck There you go I've actually been getting some of her New stuff from folks that she works with Down in Texas and she is fantastic She has been for a long time You got super lucky on this one Didn't you She's super talented lady And super nice to work with She actually included her version On her greatest hits record Not too many years ago And it's great I'm telling you she'd have had a hit with it as well And that's one of those songs That the singer's not nearly as important As the song It's just the way it is I can't take credit for Being a remarkable singer And singing that song so good It became a number one record And it had nothing to do with it The writing on Your Love Amazes Me is so good I've seen the seven wonders of the world The moon in all its phases Your love amazes me I just love all of that I'm telling you man It's funny Kenny Rogers once said The greatest love song Is when the song Says what every Woman wants to hear And what every man wants to say And that's that song That's that song right there And it struck a chord with people And I tell you what If I could go back and hear Kenny Rogers sing that song Oh Can you imagine Kenny Rogers Imagine Kenny Rogers singing that song Oh man I grew up listening to him too I played the 45's on my stereo Kenny Rogers yeah all of that good stuff Yeah Kenny was super nice To me Years after I had my record deal I lived I lived in Madison County And he lived on the opposite side of the county And his farm straddled Madison and Oglethorpe County line And beautiful beautiful place out there And he was always real nice to me Several years They had events out at his farm Big TV events Basketball and music events And they would Have me and my band come play For after dinner entertainment And a lot of fun And then a number of years ago I was in Nashville recording a Christmas album And we were recording We Three Kings And I had Billy Dean Came and sang on it And I needed one more guy to come sing on it with me And somebody said Kenny Rogers Is two blocks down at a studio Recording his new record And so we sent a note down I sent a note down and said Kenny I don't know if you got time or if your label would permit But if you're interested We're two blocks away Two studios away Recording We Three Kings for my new Christmas album And we'd love to have you come be one of the kings And daggone it 30 minutes later he didn't come busting through the door And said come on let's get this done And I said no I gotta get back to my session But I'd love to sing it So we did And man when he starts singing It's just magic Oh man You've gotten lucky a couple of times in life Yeah lots of times I've been blessed Absolutely We're gonna bless the folks with your voice On Your Love Amazes Me And if you can hang out just a little bit longer We're gonna come back and talk some more This has been the Tim Kelly Show from KICR Indie Country Radio New Country's Best On this Triple Play Thursday I've seen the seven wonders of the world I've seen the beauty of diamonds and pearls But they ain't nothing baby Your love amazes me I've seen a sunset that'll make you cry Colors of a rainbow reaching across the sky The moon in all its phases But your love amazes me Don't you ever doubt this love of mine You're the only one for me You give me hope, you give me reason You give me something to believe in Forever faithfully Your love amazes me Your love I prayed for miracles that never came I got down on my knees out in the pouring rain But only you could save me Your love amazes me Don't you ever doubt this love of mine You're the only one for me You give me hope, you give me reason You give me something to believe in Forever faithfully Your love amazes me Your love amazes me I got down on my knees Your love Your love amazes me Only you I appreciate that, thank you. I look forward to that, that sounds like a great time for sure. New Country Fest On this Triple Play Thursday It's been a long time since I've held her close We've misplaced feelings that we used to know Thought I could see between the lines I read But I wasn't ready when she turned to me and said I can't eat and I can't sleep Sometimes I find it hard to breathe I break down and cry not knowing why But now I can't hide I'm standing on the edge of goodbye All of those years came rushing through my mind I found myself back in a simpler time Just two young kids running on fire and dreams Then in her eyes I realized She was calling out to me She said I can't eat and I can't sleep Sometimes I find it hard to breathe I break down and cry not knowing why But now I can't lie I'm standing on the edge of goodbye Goodbye I would do anything to let her know There's just no way my heart can let her go I can't eat and I can't sleep Sometimes I find it hard to breathe I break down and cry not knowing why But now I can't lie I'm standing on the edge of goodbye Goodbye I can't eat and I can't sleep Sometimes I find it hard to breathe I break down and cry not knowing why But now I can't lie I'm standing on the edge of goodbye Goodbye I'm standing on the edge of goodbye I'm standing on the edge of goodbye I'm standing on the edge of goodbye Goodbye I'm standing on the edge of goodbye Rosie never was one for turning heads She was just always kind of there She had a few nice features more or less Low red ribbons in her hair The red dress isn't coming to the shine For some saying that she's never looked finer She's got a different air She's taking a shine to him Becoming the woman that she's never been And all of the guys Wishing they hadn't been so blind She's taking a shine to life Now there's a sparkle in her eyes They all miss her too Diamond within She's taking a shine Rosie hardly ever misses little work Never took vacation days Home at the diner is all the same to her She didn't know any other way But each afternoon now she starts to come alive Jessie's every day just a gruff goodbye You ought to hear them say She's taking a shine to him Becoming the woman that she's never been And all of the guys Wishing they hadn't been so blind She's taking a shine to life Now there's a sparkle in her eyes They all miss her too Diamond within She's taking a shine Oh, what a little love can do Now that she's found herself Stronger than she ever knows She's taking a shine to him Becoming the woman that she's never been And all of the guys Wishing they hadn't been so blind She's taking a shine to life Now there's a sparkle in her eyes They all miss her too Diamond within She's taking a shine She's taking a shine He is the great John Barry That is called She's Taking a Shine And I took a shine to him real quick just a baggage A baggage Song number two Growing up, it wasn't easy I was broken to be, yeah But I was strong and held on to the bruise And the bleeding My daddy gone and we're alone Some might say I was cheated They were wrong all along I had everything I needed I was raised in a house where love was found And you weren't always good for something Mama was one to talk and go after far But I never had the one for nothing God was my salvation He gave me strength when the bitters were heavy Stone by stone my whole foundation was laid I was homeless I left home, I moved on Grateful for the rest But I learned A little hurt can turn into a blessing With deep roots and dirty throats I climbed up through the ashes I'm here today with stronger faith If anybody's asking I was raised in a house where love was found And you weren't always good for something Mama was one to talk and go after far But I never had the one for nothing God was my salvation He gave me strength when the bitters were heavy Stone by stone my whole foundation was laid I was homeless Homeless I was homeless All the handprints on my heart I was homeless And that's a real good place to start I was raised in a house where love was found And you weren't always good for something Mama was one to talk and go after far But I never had the one for nothing God was my salvation He gave me strength when the bitters were heavy Stone by stone my whole foundation was laid I was homeless I was homeless Her name is Jess Kelly Adams I recently had a great interview with her There is a great video to that song It is called life, one stop sign I was looking for an open door To get out of this town and find my way Wasn't gonna listen to anyone or anything Didn't need this place or anybody in it Till I remembered that I First, first happened outside my grandma's house That's back in the creek where we swam in the swamp My first kiss was in my high school parking lot I saw this broken heart I was trying to pray at the church and cry Can't pull my arms down, blue and gold And it's Friday night No matter where I go No matter what I do There's always gonna be more than you Now I miss the old driving Driving back roads with my friends Bonfires on weekends I really wanna feel that again I didn't need this place or anybody in it Till I remembered that I First, first happened outside my grandma's house That's back in the creek where we swam in the swamp My first kiss was in my high school parking lot I saw this broken heart I was trying to pray at the church and cry Can't pull my arms down, blue and gold And it's Friday night No matter where I go No matter what I do There's always gonna be more than you I guess I had to go To find my way home When my first just happened outside my grandma's house That's back in the creek where we swam in the swamp First kiss was in my high school parking lot I saw this broken heart I was trying to pray at the church and cry Can't pull my arms down, blue and gold And it's Friday night No matter where I go No matter what I do There's always gonna be more than you More than more There's always gonna be more than more More than more New country sounds like this I'd rather I'm going through It's gonna take whiskey And whipping To get me home I'm no stranger To the rain Guess we'll start with that first I'm gonna hold up somewhere Crawl in a fence For that worn out CD This strange tense It's gonna take whiskey And whipping To get me home A double shot Of Tennessee courage Helps me not to remember That I ain't shaved in three days I ain't been going round no mirrors I wish I could say I'm home But I'm over you But that's a far cry From the truth That my Kentucky bluebird Does a Birmingham turn around It's gonna take whiskey And whipping To get me home I'm no the girl you got me Pouring my heart out tonight Your arms around my arms around My true north where I'm headed south A lighthouse in my darkest horror When I think it couldn't get any harder You calm back for you to carry around So girl I hope that you understand It's just a part of me being a man Oh the girl you got me Pouring my heart out tonight Your arms around my arms around My true north where I'm headed south A lighthouse in my darkest horror When I think it couldn't get any harder You calm the seas when the waves get rough I'm sinking down and you lift me up You give me shelter in the stormy weather Even when I'm holding you You're holding me together Girl you show me everything A little bit more when I hear you say You're the rock to wrap my arms around My true north where I'm headed south A lighthouse in my darkest horror When I think it couldn't get any harder You calm the seas when the waves get rough I'm sinking down and you lift me up You give me shelter in the stormy weather Even when I'm holding you You're holding me together You're holding me together I'm doing great, doing great Well it's fun and we're still out there doing it We're still traveling I have quite a few bookings We're traveling all over the country I'm really enjoying playing as much as I ever did Well you know that was just all I could do That was me, I sing so country I guess And it was to my benefit back then Because we were going the little direction Of the pop and the strings and all that stuff And so I just hit a slot there That was just right for me thank goodness And I've been having a great time ever since Well listen I tell it all the time on the radio The two biggest places I get my music sent to me from I play the independent artists Texas and Canada, they're both really hot right now In country music Yes, yeah they are Texas has a great country music organizations And stuff where they really got it together down there Yep, I've got a brand new song just the other day In my email from Casey Donahue Randy Rogers Band, Wade Bowen Yes, yes I did I was a sheet metal worker, yeah I worked sheet metal work And played the honky tonks at night And went to Nashville as much as I could To try to get into the recording end of it And I bugged them and bothered them And finally got a guy named Ray Baker Who we went in and recorded And finally got a record out there And it took off And that was 73, 74 Around that time frame That's awesome You decided you wanted to do something a little longer Than 8 seconds and make a record That was about 2 minutes and 37 seconds Exactly, and I didn't get injured every time Right, right That's awesome Well I'll tell you what We have a PBR bull riding arena Just south of Branson, Missouri Where I'm at now A couple of years ago Johnny Morris that owns Bass Pro Shops Opened it up It's called Timber Ridge And I'll get you that information too Maybe you can perform out there for the folks That would be a cool venue to be at Well I love that I'm very familiar with that And I've been involved in the PBR for years And had a bull in the PBR actually Yeah, we love that arena And Johnny Morris has done so much For the Branson area And the Ozarks actually And man, he's just done a great job And yeah, that's a great arena there Yeah, he kicked it off for 3 shows in a row Garth Brooks was out there When it first opened up In October, a couple of years ago So that was fantastic Yeah, so that would be awesome Well tell me about how At what point you wanted to Stop the bull riding And the sheet metal working And start doing something in country music You weren't like a lot of artists that I've talked to Maybe 10, 12 years old I'm sure Yeah, well I kind of on the bull riding deal I got a couple of blows to the head I think changed my mind I never knew But I always wanted I sang all my life My mother plays piano My dad played guitar And we all sang So it was just something That I was raised with And I just That was my true love I think I wanted to be a singer more than anything There you go Well you're terrific at it man So we're glad that you're doing And what you're doing And like I said Keeping traditional country music alive We're going to play a song Called Bandy the Rodeo Clown It's going to be the first one out of the gate On this Triple Play Thursday tonight But let me ask you about your name Mo Bandy Is that your given name Or a stage name or what? Well my first name You'll have to look it up It's the same as John Wayne's first name Okay, Marion? Marion So I My dad nicknamed me Mo when I was a kid Because a guy in the Navy nicknamed him Mo He was I'm a junior So the Mo has been with me all my life That's all I've gone by is Mo Bandy I love it And I went to Nashville They said Boy, that's got to be a stage name I said no, that's my name Well Marion Morris was the great John Wayne As you mentioned So that is awesome And I did the same thing When I started in radio in 1999 In McAllister, Oklahoma At a 100,000 watt station Everybody had a radio name And they said What do you want yours to be? And I thought Well what do you think of Tim Kelly? And everybody's like Hey we like that That's got a good sound to it I've been Tim Kelly on the radio since 99 Well great That sounds like a good name, yeah Thank you It's sure great to make the connection with you Mr. Mo Bandy You have had a very successful career Since you decided to do music full time Ten number ones Forty top tens Sixty-six songs that have charted And five gold albums Not to mention a couple of ACM awards Well I have I've been very blessed in my career And I feel like Every day I feel blessed To be doing what I do It's just The thing about it is People in our business That out there That are dreaming to be Have records and things like this And I was fortunate enough To get some records And man I just support all these people That are working really hard To try to get those records And get out there, you know That's exactly right You know and it's not easy In this independent artist world You know And I've got a guy reaching out to me today You know that wants more radio promotion I've interviewed him on the show And I put this show out to ten radio stations And a lot of other formats That you stream on Like Spotify and Amazon And Pandora and iHeartRadio And all of that But you know it's not easy You can't just walk in Like you used to be back in the days of Loretta Lynn Or something like that With Coal Miner's Daughter on a 45 And hand it to a program director And have him play it on the radio It doesn't work like that does it? No it doesn't And there's just millions and millions Probably of people That are trying to get in the business Or thousands I guess Yeah But it's just very competitive And it depends on The biggest thing is the song If you get the right song That's got the right hook on it And gets everybody's attention Well then you got a shot at it Absolutely Are you still in San Antonio or in Texas? Or did you make that move to Nashville too? No actually I am in close to Branson, Missouri I live close to Branson Between Branson and Springfield Well there you go So I've always loved these Ozark Mountains And yeah I'm right here Well we're probably neighbors I actually live in Ozark And based a show out of Branson And go down there to the theater on Saturdays And then I do another gig in Springfield as well Yeah we're close We'll have to meet up We'll have lunch Yeah there you go That would be awesome I like that Texas style barbecue How about that? Yeah I like that too Yeah that's some good stuff Now San Antonio, Texas While I was mentioning that There's another gentleman We saw a couple of months ago His name is Randall King He's originally from San Antonio And he played at Midnight Rodeo in Springfield A couple of months ago And he's sure making waves in country music as well right now He sure is He is And San Antonio has just been a big city For different people You know the area That area down there George Strait's from down there And a whole bunch of other different entertainers So it's kind of a good place for country music Absolutely And I love when you do collaborations with other artists We got one by Joe Stampley That we're going to play To kick off the top of the next hour And I'm just going to go out and ask you Maybe this was it This duet maybe won an ACM and a CMA duet of the year Was that the song? Right Good Old Boys And it's actually the 45th anniversary Of Good Old Boys Since we recorded it And I never dreamed what we was doing When we did it Wow It's lasted all this long And it still has a lot of airplay And Joe and I are good buddies We've been doing an anniversary tour And we play every once in a while We'll go out and play several And come back and do shows by ourselves But that song has just hung in there for a long time That is awesome And the folks are going to love it When we play it at the top of the hour Here in just a little bit So that's good stuff Now let me ask you this too A lot of great collaborations come lyrically Do you song write with other folks Or do you mainly do it on your own? I've written with other people quite a bit But I do a lot of it on my own I have some great writers that wrote for me And sometime I got him Whitey Schaefer That's just really one of the best writers out there I wrote a few with him But he wrote so many great songs for me But either way Nowadays they'll meet a certain day and just write Used to in the old days You'd come up with a hook line or something And you wrote it But now they just pump them out So people have different styles You mentioned George Strait He was not known for song writing But Dean Dillon wrote a lot of his hits And Dean Dillon now for that Is in the Country Music Hall of Fame as a song writer He sure is He is great He came to one of my shows not long ago Down in Texas What a great song writer And he has these great ideas He is a legend I told John Barry in our previous interview Just in the last hour Your Love Amazes Me is just so well written And he said Tanya Tucker almost took that song But she didn't And he got lucky with it Yeah, yeah It takes a lot of that in the world of country music too Doesn't it? Some luck Oh definitely No doubt about it You've got to be in the right place At the right time for sure With your songs And your career and everything You know that's why I've done this show now For going on year number 13 Because I know that one of these days The right ears are going to get on it And not only is my voice going to get discovered Over introducing you Or interviewing you and your music But these independent artists that I play Are going to get discovered too And that is the hope Yeah, that's great That's what we need in our music We need an outlet to get it out there And even if some of them get to go on a tour With a John Barry, a Mo Bandy Or folks like you That is a blessing too For these young up and coming artists To get to perform with country music legends Like yourself And that's great I love to watch the careers And people that open And watch them working very hard To make it Yeah, you know it is And making it is different for everybody I've said many times If you have a 10 year career in country music And step away from it You know Garth did it And then he came back And then he won CMA Entertainer of the Year And now he's still going strong again So you just never know You never know The time has just got to be right on everything Absolutely Well tell us about this first song That we're going to play Called Bandy the Rodeo Clown Well it's I was My brother I have a brother Mike Bandy Who went to the National Finals Seven times In a bull riding event And I He was having a great year About 75 And I told Whitey Schaefer I need a Rodeo song And so One night In the middle of the night I got a call And I said I said who is this He said Lefty And I said Lefty who? Lefty Frizzell And Lefty and Whitey wrote Bandy the Rodeo Clown And Lefty sang it to me over the phone And man I couldn't wait to cut it Wow That is awesome You know Great things happen over the phone Just like this interview tonight That's right That's right I love it Well we're going to play Bandy the Rodeo Clown From the great Mo Bandy On the Tim Kelly Show From KICR Indie Country Radio New Country's Best On this Triple Play Thursday And then we'll come back And talk to him some more Hang on Who was once A bull hooking son of a gun Now who keeps a pint To get out behind shoot number one Who was riding high Till a pretty girl Rode him to the ground Any kid knows where to find me I'm Bandy the Rodeo Clown And the riding and the roping I was closing in on number one Now in dreams at night I ride On that silver saddle I never won Since she left me the whiskey Takes me to the rodeo ground Where the cowboys think I'm handy I'm Bandy the Rodeo Clown Down to Rademont The folks in the Bronx knew I was false But the ride that woman took me on Broke a whole lot more than this old cowboy's bones While the tears on my makeup Melt my painted smile into a crown The crowd thinks I'm a dandy I'm Bandy the Rodeo Clown Down to Rademont The folks in the Bronx knew I was false But the ride that woman took me on Broke a whole lot more than this old cowboy's bones While the tears on my makeup Melt my painted smile into a crown The crowd thinks I'm a dandy I'm Bandy the Rodeo Clown Down to Rademont The folks in the Bronx knew I was false But the ride that woman took me on Broke a whole lot more than this old cowboy's bones While the tears on my makeup Melt my painted smile into a crown The crowd thinks I'm a dandy I'm Bandy the Rodeo Clown Down to Rademont The folks in the Bronx knew I was false But the ride that woman took me on Broke a whole lot more than this old cowboy's bones It was an honor getting one from Lefty Frizzell And Whitey Schaefer also He's one of the greats And it was just an honor to cut that song I was so pleased that it did Like it did as good as it did While Lefty was still alive He passed away before it got to me at the top But he was sure proud of it Yeah, that's awesome Now it says too, back in 1972 You met a record producer His name was Ray Baker You guys went on a hunting trip together And you convinced him to listen to some of the demos That you had made And he said if you'll pay for the studio time I'll definitely take a listen And that's how it kind of got started for you That's right Yeah, that's the way it happened Ray Baker helped me get started in the business And wouldn't have been for him I wouldn't have been there So yeah, he had a lot to do with my career How about that And going strong after all these years I was 10 years old in 1972 Yeah, right So I'm not going to mention your age But you are not new to the music business You are a true country music legend Well I've got 7 interviews today So I'm doing That is awesome Well congratulations I'm glad to hear that too People want you People want you That is for sure Now you're going to be with Joe Stampley I'm looking at your schedule In Stockdale, Texas On the 22nd of June There's also going to be Johnny Lee there The great Johnny Lee At a Watermelon Jubilee That sounds like fun That's fun That's a big thing down there And it's close to my hometown I was raised out east of San Antonio And so that will be a big thing for us And we'll have a good time That's awesome You're also playing with the great Janie Fricke T.G. with a whiskey grin It's almost like you knew I had a heart to sell Yeah, we danced till the lights came on Kissed me slow to a joyous straight song I had no doubt that you were the real deal You got the hair, you got the cattle You put a million miles on that saddle You sure know how to make a cowgirl fart You got the moves, the corners on your knuckles The saddle to mount don't win any buckles You ain't no good if you can get out for the long haul Turns out you ain't no cowboy at all Get on and shake your legs to the next town Call it home, work up a sundown Take your lovin' head down the interstate They gonna make promises they can't keep Don't say three words they don't mean They don't end it with a kiss from Santa Fe Cowboys ain't that way You got the hair, you got the cattle You put a million miles on that saddle You sure know how to make a cowgirl fart You got the moves, the corners on your knuckles The saddle to mount don't win any buckles You ain't no good if you can get out for the long haul Turns out you ain't no cowboy at all At all You got the hair, you got the cattle You put a million miles on that saddle You sure know how to make a cowgirl fart You got the moves, the corners on your knuckles The saddle to mount don't win any buckles You ain't no good if you can get out for the long haul Turns out you ain't no cowboy at all Turns out you ain't no cowboy at all At all At all New country sounds like this Hey man, I'm gettin' it all that I got Hey man, I'm down for my last shot And this Felt like livin' and I felt like dyin' Come on and back to me And this Hey, pretty boy, you were pretty sure It was gonna work out for ya You're listening to the best in new country music On KICR Indie Country Radio Blue Jeans Oh, I cut off blue jeans And not a drop of sunscreen We drove trucks at fifteen Boss divers makin' hay feel gross I shed the key in your right hand Bunch of hole in a beer can Actin' tough and chewin' red man And you get your butt torn up If mama ever heard you cuss That's just the way it was Way back where I grew up Bare feet on a county road Stealin' kisses on a turnpike It's been a minute, it's been a while I drive a million two-lane miles To a town that's small Cash worth a dollar When the days got harder You'd take a sip of that old water First smoke in a parkin' lot Second base as far as you got Feelin' signs full of buckshot And lethal ones you didn't run through There wasn't nothin' else to do That's just the way it was Way back where I grew up Bare feet on a county road Stealin' kisses on a turnpike It's been a minute, it's been a while I drive a million two-lane miles To a town that's small Cash worth a dollar When the days got harder You'd take a sip of that old water Days were slow World was younger Time was separate Mommy had suffered Problems were a few Lit for the sun Wish I'd known I'd never lived another That's just the way it was Way back where I grew up Bare feet on a county road Stealin' kisses on a turnpike It's been a minute, it's been a while I drive a million two-lane miles To a town that's small Cash worth a dollar When the days got harder You'd take a sip of that old water You'd take a sip of that old water Song number two Girl, I knew it was a matter of time Before you got dawned up Pulled into my drive And apologized Cause the other night you went crazy You said you're just here to collect your stuff Now you're cryin' And you're talkin' about makin' up Like you wanna come back Let me think about that now, baby Well, I'd rather drink a hot milk And set a fire in the pouring rain And burn all of my fishing gear, baby And set sail in a hurricane Or go huntin' with an empty gun To see what's in a lifetime deal Or work a Saturday just for fun And come home and drink a hot beer I'm sorry if it sounds kinda overboard But you cheated and you lied And you wrecked my board So you might as well stay there On the porch now, honey If you wanna know the odds of another try They're about the same As a tractor flyin' Quit your laughin', girl I ain't tryin' to be funny I'd rather drink a hot milk And set a fire in the pouring rain And burn all of my fishing gear, baby And set sail in a hurricane Or go huntin' with an empty gun To see what's in a lifetime deal Or work a Saturday just for fun And come home and drink a hot beer Come home and drink a scum Oh, totally not cold Flat and scratched Cause the sun's been rolled With the trash and the toast Hell, I'd even pop an old dose For the trip I ain't tryin' to drink a hot beer Turn it up and take a long sip Hell, I'd even take a big squig Of Uncle Bubba's old gift, yeah Go huntin' with an empty gun To see what's in a lifetime deal Or work a Saturday just for fun Come home and drink a hot beer Come home and drink a hot beer His name is Dylan Carmichael. He is the nephew of John Michael Montgomery and Eddie Montgomery from Montgomery Gentry. That is called Hot Beer. I play the liner all the time. Glad to get to play the song now on this Triple Play Thursday edition of the Tim Kelly Show. And before that, another great tune called Hose Water. I prefer hose water over hot beer, that's for sure. I like them cold, ladies and gentlemen. But this music is pretty darn hot, isn't it? We call it New Country's Best for a reason. The third song in the Triple Play for Dylan Carmichael is his latest single. It is called I'd Call Grandpa on the Tim Kelly Show from KICR, Indy Country Radio. New Country's Best on Triple Play Thursday. It was 25 cents at the gumball machine And that's 25 more than you have when you drink It blew my mind how a quarter of beer from behind his ear spinnerbait burned a hole in my Levi's The lake was too far for a bike ride When momma was busy and daddy was gone I'd call grandpa He was just a man in overalls Knew every old Don Williams song Had a fighting side He left behind a name in 67 If there was a landline that ran right to the countryside of heaven And I had one call I'd call grandpa Started thinking I'd pick a dream Picking out that pawnshop ring I was sure it was one of them things He'd be the first I'd call I'd call grandpa He was just a man in overalls Knew every old Don Williams song Had a fighting side He left behind a name in 67 If there was a landline that ran right to the countryside of heaven And I had one call I'd call grandpa Talk about grandma Tell him I'd still drive this truck Tell him I'd not ever hang up Yeah He was just a man in overalls Knew every old Hank Williams song Had a fighting side He left behind a name in 67 If there was a landline that ran right to the countryside of heaven And I had one call I'd call grandpa He was just a man in overalls Knew every old Hank Williams song Had a fighting side He left behind a name in 67 If there was a landline that ran right to the countryside of heaven And I had one call Just one call I'd call grandpa Triple Play Thursday on KICR Indie Country Well I'm sure God's got a lot of strikes against me I don't always make it to church on Sunday Well I've been known to use four-letter words And too often I forget to pray unless I'm in trouble I like my whiskey strong and double Lord knows I've spent a lot of nights sittin' on this church view far and slow Listenin' to the city in the blue Talkin' bout their broken hearts Cause in here you come as you are Can't help but think the man upstairs is cool With me on his church view bar stool Last week I missed the preacher's sermon But I was helpin' Joe and Lonesome Bird He lost his job and lost his wife So I had a holy Saturday night Sittin' on this church view bar stool Listenin' to the sinners in the blue Talkin' bout their broken hearts Cause in here you come as you are Can't help but think the man upstairs is cool With me on his church view bar stool The good folks had to do what he would do Sittin' on his church view bar stool Listenin' to the sinners in the blue Talkin' bout their broken hearts Cause in here you come as you are Can't help but think the man upstairs is cool With me on his church view bar stool Church view bar stool Church view bar stool Song number two One less bar in this town I go drinkin' One less beach to watch that red sun sinkin' One less number in my phone One less way to get back home One less church to go to pray If less is more One more county ride One more string of sleep at night One more tell myself it's gonna be okay One more than what could have been One more why this has to end One more empty bottle in this world Cause one less girl One less favorite song that I'll be playin' One less I love you that I'll be sayin' One less pair of blue green eyes One less car parked in my drive One less stands out in the rain If less is more is what they say Then I got one more One more string of sleep at night One more tell myself it's gonna be okay One more than what could have been One more why this has to end One more empty bottle in this world Cause one less girl That I still want That I still need That I can't stop thinkin' bout Took my breath Took my heart Can't live without One more almost got it right One more string of sleep at night One more tell myself it's gonna be okay One more than what could have been One more why this has to end One more empty bottle in this world Cause one less girl One less girl That is the gentleman That is the gentleman That is the gentleman That is the gentleman That is the gentleman That is the gentleman That is the gentleman That is the
