Nothing to say, yet
Two friends discuss their recent golf outings and their aspirations for improving their game. They talk about their handicaps, the performance of their shots, and the possibility of getting professional lessons. They express a desire to compete in tournaments and test their skills against other golfers. They discuss the challenges of finding a suitable coach and consider options like Golf Tech. They also mention the importance of finding a balance between regular lessons and not overwhelming themselves with too much information. Every golfer has a journey. Here's ours This is Mason. This is Josh. It's a journeyman podcast All right, first one first one first Legitimately that live now the nerves are running through right now ice in my veins. I'm ready to go. I Don't know about ice in my veins. But yeah, I don't know about nerves either. I mean, we're just talking yeah, but When you get out there on the golf course and you got to hit that perfect shot Playing a scramble against the scramble boys. I Need you to sink it right there on the green Speaking of the scramble boys. Didn't you go on vacation last week? Yeah, I didn't scramble boys. I Didn't work out in my favor But I beat myself Both look pretty decent Best thing that helped me out is kept my drive on the fairway so Very very very close game to the end He went up by Five strokes on the front. I came back and won eight straight back to go up by three. What did he shoot? What did he shoot overall? 91 Wanna say I shot a 94. What is this handicap? I think he said his handicap was like a 12 or 14 There's no changes for over 14 But the way he plays there's no way he's a 12 He's giving me a run for my money a couple times it He's throwing some dollar deals Yeah, yeah, but I don't think he's a 12. There's no way if I mean if I'm sitting at 6 6, there's no way he's a 12 I'm in me could be a sandbag sandbag Yeah, but during a scramble he's not going to get any shots. I don't know what the use for that would be. Are we giving strokes? No, we're not giving strokes. So it's just a scramble? Yes, that's what I was thinking. We were just gonna go straight. Yeah, straight through. I mean straight like, you know, best ball. Yeah Did have a chip in for birdie That is very nice. I love a good chip in. Anytime that happens to somebody that's not even me Because the joy in people's faces just like it brightens my day so the funny thing about it was is I Had grabbed the wrong club out of the bag And I thought I was grabbing my wedge But I actually grabbed my approach for it It's still a wedge, but you know degrees not bad though. The rough it's not and I was probably 15 yards off the green nice little Tried to do a little bump and run because the pin was on the other side of the green. Mm-hmm. Hit a perfect little Right up down the green and it rolled and it rolled. So this is looking good. This is looking good What about the other guys how they did? Had to Travis was the only other one that played and Bobby I didn't think Kyle would play. Bobby didn't play? No. Huh. He didn't play. He doesn't? I don't think he would take that up. But Travis did take a stroke limit on a lot of holes. That makes sense He always takes a lot of stroke limits on a lot of holes. And then blames his clubs. That makes sense too. He got him at a three shot he said Sometimes it's the best clubs though. I mean think of how many people that have scottie cameras that like goodwill That's a rare find. It's a dominant club. It's more Common than you think. For sure. I'm about to find me one over here, especially living next to where we live next to. You know what I'm saying? The only thing I don't like about scotties is they don't have a lot of left-handed putters I've never really seen a left-handed scottie. Oh, they do but you know, they don't. I mean they don't advertise it Like they do the right-handed putter. Well, yeah, but I mean if you go to PJ City store, which is another hour and a half from us. Yeah I'm not trying to do all that. I'm not trying to go all the way an hour and a half away I mean Peachtate is right there. Peachtate is a good place. I like to go there for all my golf stuff I still have that koozie you gave me. Which one? The Peachtate golf one? It's a very good one. Very good one So, Mason, what's your current handicap right now? 6'6". 6'6". 6'6". Well, yeah, 6'6". But I have two rounds in the 80s coming off See, playing golf tomorrow, right? So, yeah, playing golf tomorrow And then round after whatever round I play after that will replace like whatever my, I think it was an 82 and 84 It'll replace them. So, we can go up, we can go down. We're hoping to go down. For sure. Hoping to be at 6 even, maybe less, maybe in the high fives by the end of the year How do you achieve that tomorrow? Is it the putt game? No, actually, putt hasn't been that bad Is it a pro shot? Definitely a pro shot. Horrible. Horrible from about 130 and in That was me last weekend. Everything that I had, about 120 into about 60 was a lot of deceleration with my hands in the glove And there was a lot of fat, chunky balls coming out Yeah. Yeah, that's, I mean, that can be detrimental for sure for a scorer How was the driver though? Driver was pretty well. Really? Driver was pretty well. I think I only had, with my driver, I only had one ball OB The rest were fairway or right on the side, right on the rough So, if you had to guess how many fairways you hit, so there's 14 fairways, right? 10 Really? And you shot a what? 94 Yeah, that's horrible My putting was bad That's horrible though Yeah, actually, my putting wasn't bad, it was my pro shot that was bad How many greens did you hit? Out of 18? 5 Yeah, that's pretty bad. Yeah, your pro shots are horrible But That was, that's embarrassing But I did have a pretty decent amount of one putts. I think I probably had 6 or 7 one putts So then your putting wasn't the issue There's 18 holes in golf, right? There's 18 holes in a round of golf, correct? Correct Okay, in 18 holes, 6 or 7 of those you one putted Correct But you don't know what I'm one putting for No, I don't know what you're one putting for, but A lot was for bogey or double bogey That makes sense Yeah, but what do you say that handicap was? I mean, which I know you don't carry a USGA handicap, but I do You do? But I haven't updated it Oh, so you're a sandbagger No, I'm not a sandbagger, I have to update the card information on top That's true Yeah, you gotta do something And I'm trying to figure out how to do that, because it's not the easiest thing to do No, yeah, USGA doesn't make it super, super simple I mean, they do, but at the same time, they don't Like, you know, a lot of the times they want you to be affiliated with a club, makes no sense Or if you're with a club, and then you're not with the same club anymore Then it's like, well, what happened to your club? And you're like, well, I'm broke, can't afford it You know, but Everybody's been there A lot of people are still there We are still there However The journey, though, for myself Is to Get to a place I guess near the end of next year, so 2025, I would say The beginning of 2025 I would love to be at a spot Where I can go and play I guess professional golf I mean, you got the Rolling Red Tour Which, you know, I follow them on Instagram, they're awesome One day tournament You know Most of the guys still put on like 64, 63, which is very, very good Such a long way off from that, though But, you know I would like to get to a place to where I knew my game could hold up But yet, at the same time, like I'm not going in Like, I would go in expecting to win Because why spend the money if you're not going to try to win? That makes no sense But at the same token I would love to see where my game held up against some of those professional guys Because, yeah I mean, you can be club champion here You know, you can play, you know, buddies of yours For a little A Whatever Money-wise Your weekend golfer Yeah But, at the same token, like What's the point of improving if you're never going to try to test your limits Test the boundaries Okay You know I'm not talking about going out and doing Monday qualifying and stuff like that But, yeah, it'd be cool to take a day off of work And travel to, like, North Georgia or Alabama or wherever And try in these one-day tournaments I'm just taking a day off of work and I'm going to play golf And if I do well, I'm making some money But I'm not there I need to get there And how do I get there? Well, that's a whole different story Because I've gotten I've gotten my swing to a point by myself That I don't think I can take myself any further And I know you have You have the skill of that Which is awesome You know, I've told you I did that lesson on there with that dude For sure And he was cool You had good, you know, really good feedback And I've worked on that a lot But I think I need one-on-one interaction There's no one around us There's no one around us That will let me I don't know what I'm looking for here There's no one around us that I feel comfortable with to go Everybody's way up north You know, you're talking an hour and a half away Which is fine You got a couple club pros around us But a lot of them don't really focus on the older end They're really focused on juniors I don't know why that is But I mean, good for the juniors Think about going to Golf Tech But then again, Golf Tech is so expensive And I don't know if I really enjoy the package deal that they offer But there's so much data they can throw at you You know, whether you're open Whether you're closed Whether, you know, you're on plane Not on plane, you know And I'm sure they know what they're talking about They wouldn't be employed by Golf Tech But, in token, I don't know if I want to commit To a six-lesson deal Without testing the waters Like, you know, I want to test the water For sure And I don't want to say right then on the spot Yeah, let's go ahead and commit I kind of feel that's how it might be But I'll never know until the trial So you want to do almost like a one-time trial Not so much a one-time trial Not so much a one-time trial But I don't want to be the guy who goes And gets a lesson every two weeks I want to be the guy who goes and gets a lesson Like once every week Or once every month Or once every six weeks Something like that Because I don't need to I don't want to I don't want to get hammered with so much stuff That, hey, you need to do this and you do that I want to get hammered with Hey, let's focus on this In six weeks, come see me again In a month, come see me again And let's work on this So that way, by the end of 25 My swing should be so much in a point To where it's not a swing issue I mean, it's always going to be a swing issue Every now and then But, I mean, you're always going to hit bad shots For sure But, at least I would know Okay, I'm not coming over the top Or, okay, you know, I took a two-week vacation Or I didn't play for two weeks Or whatever And then I go back out there And the swing feels 100% different Like, no, no, no I know what to do I know how I need to be So I know I'm not Oh, am I coming over the top on this today And then tomorrow I'm not coming over the top You know Am I extending? Am I early extending? Or whatever I don't want to be that guy I want to be I want to know What I need to do I think I need another opinion I don't want to go to YouTube Because, I mean I do go to YouTube for like Small knick-knacks Yeah, like, you know Brain reading How to get out of this rough You know Stuff like that Tips and tricks Yeah, because, I mean We don't travel much It's not like I'm going to California To play golf anytime soon Right We'll be nice We'll be nice We should put California Especially around this time of the year Would be amazing to go play Fall golf Fall golf Fair golf The best Fall golf Love a quarter zip Love a quarter zip Love But that's just That's just where I'm at I'm still Like, I won't do it this year You know But I really need to look at it Maybe the beginning of next year And say, okay Do I want to take that step Do I want to say Okay Let's go to Golf Tech They got the track man They got the pressure plates They got everything you need Do I want to go to Golf Tech And take that step To where that way At the beginning of 25 I'm not saying my game Hasn't turned me off yet But I'm saying I'll be A lot closer than I am now I should be a lot closer than I am now Technically speaking Technically speaking Everything As long as I As long as I don't just Go get a lesson And then say Alright, I'm going to go play Three weeks later Because That speaks for There's no reason for that There's no reason to spend the money To go get a lesson And never put in the work You know Which I feel like a lot of guys do I feel like a lot of people do that I feel like they go get a lesson They go to the range An hour before they're supposed to tee off They work on what they're supposed to work on They go out and they shoot a horrible score And they revert back to the old way Correct Yeah Which I know there's going to be hiccups I know my score Like if I'm going out And putting up You know 77's to 83's right now on average Like I know I know that's going to Go away I know I'm going to be putting up Higher scores here and there But If the change works You know I'm not saying I'm going to go out And shoot under par The next time I play But Yeah I think one of the major things though Like if somebody does go get a lesson Let's say You get a lesson for Let's just say you're a driver right Let's just say you're a driver You're slicing the ball consistently right You work with the coach for an hour Let's just say Let's just call it an hour You start hitting the ball straight right You go out You're hitting your driver good The next round But you're Let's just say your approach shots are bad the next time So you switch and do your approach shots And then your driver's bad again right I feel like a lot of people think that just one lesson Is supposed to change everything When you go out there on the golf course Instead of Lesson after lesson after lesson Because you have to practice It's just like baseball, football, soccer Whatever sport that you like to play It's You got to put in that practice In order to To be able to perform At the level that you want to perform at Right Which It's true But then also at the same time I mean I don't know I mean I've gone to One professional tournament The Tours Championship back in 18 Man The difference between that 30 Those 30 guys Is so finite That it's just mental You know you got You got like Back in 18 it was what Ricky Fowler was on the tee And just what Like the confidence he exuded You know I know I'm going to put this in the fairway You know Like At some point It becomes mental Right So when he's teeing off He's already looking at Where his ball is going to be at For his second shot Yeah I mean I know they say Take one shot at a time But in the same set You know in the same sentence Like You also want to set yourself up For the best Like if the pins Tucked over on the left Then you know There's a bunker on the left Like obviously you don't want to Pick on the bunker You want to set your tee shot up To where it's on the right So that way you have Full right side of the green To where it's on Yeah And those guys miss so little Like It's not even funny I mean of course You know Let's look at the past tournament Big Griffin Man That's scary I mean I have to say The best of He lost his driver On the last 18 holes of golf As a 54-hole leader If he didn't lose his driver He could find a fairway Big Griffin wins the tournament Takes it home Takes it home That's what I'm saying That just happens So you know I would love to get my Game into a place that Yes Like you said You know you practice You practice And then You But you practice And That's what I'm saying I want to get my game To where I know I know what I have to do Swing wise And then I know It's the middle aspect 100% after that That's where I would want to That's where I want to be Starting 25 I'm not talking like Oh I want to get to scratch I do I mean who doesn't At the end of the day Whoever picks up a club At the end of the day Wants to go out and shoot good scores That should be everybody's journey Correct That should be everybody's journey But It's not You know Everybody has a different take On what they want to do with golf Most guys want to go out there They want to shoot good scores You know there's a lot of guys That want to go out and smoke cigars Or drink the beer And hang out And talk to the car girls And you know Yada yada yada I'm the guy who wants to go out And shoot good scores But I can also differentiate Between a weekend round with buddies To where you know I'm going out And I'm having a good time And I don't care about my score You know Then I can also differentiate Between Hey you know what I know I need to put up A good score today I need to be in a focused state I'm not saying I'm not going to Drink on the course Or anything like that But I want to put up You know A decent score And I mean Until I guess I feel More comfortable with my game Is you know Then I'll I'll take it more serious But You know I step up to the tee I say alright I want to hit it here If it goes there That's great Full left of that I'm okay with it You know Because Most of the courses That we play down here Are tight Very very tight Very tight You know See that was one of the good things About the course that we played This past weekend It wasn't extremely long But the fairways Were Kind of like Panola They had Some kind of Some kind of tree stretch In between them But it wasn't something That you couldn't If you hit it onto the Let's just say You slice it to the next fairway Right You could still come back Across the fairway To the green So It was It was A very nice course For where it was And in Florida You know The grass and the fairways Are a little bit different Than they are here in Georgia But They did a very good job Maintaining it And the greens were Phonetic Awesome Awesome greens Very very soft Reacted to the ball well The rolls And the The The slopes Were very true To what they were actually reading Which You don't find a lot here in Georgia Not And especially around this time of the year That is That is 100% true So Alright enough about me What about you? So currently I believe I am Somewhere around 17.6 On my handicap I would say my My goal Going into 2025 Would be Somewhere around a 12 That gives me a year To get down to a 12 Very doable That's very very doable I think one of my Main things That I am trying to work on now Is finding the fairway Because I feel confident In my game Once I find the fairway To be able to Post a good score But what's hurting me right now You've played With me a lot of times The main thing That hurts me the most Is not finding the fairway And that's just the truth That's the truth That is my That's my goal And my journey That I'm on right now Is to try to find A consistent drive That puts me on the fairway 9 out of 10 times Obviously we're going to have Those bad shots We're going to have those Shots where we don't Account for the wind Or You know It's a dog leg left Or a dog leg right And we just hit a good drive But You know Let's just say it bounces Into the woods Sometimes you don't always Get the best kick On the fairway You could hit one Down the middle If you've got some rocks Down there or something And it kicks and jumps that way I mean hey That's just golf Yeah Yeah Right I mean Golf is What did Bobby Jones say Something about you know Golf is like the game of life Sometimes you get good lives From bad shots You get bad lives From good shots I believe that Get you out of there Something like that So Yeah I mean But Going from 17.6 To 12 To 10 Something like that That's very doable I mean especially I mean look Me and you pretty much Hit the ball the same distance I mean it's not like I got you by 50 yards Or something like that It's true You know You just got to figure out The aspects Of your golf game That hurt you the most Which you're right Driver Putting you OB Always having to take that drop Is a big thing I mean you're talking about Making bogey double Triple On a lot of your holes I mean But you take that drop out Right Take that drop out And you know That's a par That's a bogey I mean even if you took a triple And turned it into a bogey Yeah That's two strokes right there Yeah And you do that over Strokes gained Strokes lost So You do that over four holes That's as much As eight strokes That's right So So you're gaining two strokes Every Yeah I mean Yeah I mean yeah That's four strokes But yeah So you're gaining two Yeah I'm saying If you're If you're triple bogey Let's say you triple bogey The first four holes Alright And you check that They're all par fours That's Three, six, nine, twelve And then let's say You bogey That's Four Yeah that's eight strokes I'm an idiot Oh okay Yeah I know That's my fault But still At the end of the day That's very achievable More It's more achievable To get to where You want to get to Than it is for me To get to where I want to get to Yeah because There's a lot of steps In between Where you want to get to Correct And You have to basically Post below that To get down to that Yeah And if you have one That's above that Right You have to Post below that To get down to that Yeah And if you have one That's above that Right It's going to keep you And I I'll be honest with you I pretty much made the goal That once I get to a five even I'm going to say Hey you know what I think we need to Take it a step back I think we need to Play from the tips You know because If you play from the tips Let's say you play From the tips of You know Cherokee Road Georgia National Wherever Heron Bay Crystal Lake Any course You play from the tips And let's say you shoot 95 The differential Between What Scratch would shoot From the tips From those four courses That I mentioned To what you shot there Will lower your handicap Quicker I mean You don't drive the ball 200 yards I mean You're out there with me You know You're at least 280 27 Roughly You're around there So Stepping back Two tees Or a tee Or whatever You're playing at now That won't That won't affect you too much Right So I think That won't affect you too much Yeah And you know You'll really see Where your game's at Because at the end of the day Like I understand You can say Hey I'm a scratch golfer But are you a scratch golfer From the The blues Or are you a scratch golfer From the You know The tips Which you know The blues Are the tips At your home course Then Whatever the tips are At your home course Is a step above that Right, right You know Because When you step back on the tip Are you gonna shoot around scratch I'm not saying go out there And shoot 72 71 Whatever I'm saying like Are you actually gonna be able to shoot Within the 70s If I If you take it and say Hey I'm not playing from You know 6800 yards I'm playing from 71 That's the question you gotta ask So Realistically I'm basing everything Off of Whatever the tips would be At most courses That we play Are like 69 7000 Right So So Yeah Like as a scratch You know You should be going on a 6400 yard course And shooting Right at scratch Or Lower I mean Well Right at even or lower Um But See That's That's really I'm not saying that's True I'm just saying That's where I'm basing my game off of For sure That if I'm going to play A 6500 yard course Or lower That I I need to be shooting You know Even or below 74 That should be a bad day for me Right That's where I want to get my game You want to get your game To where you're like A bad day for me Is 90 Which is I mean It kinda is I mean You know I mean look at that What is the difference between Mason And what's the difference between You know His self, Josh and Aaron Well The fact is that Mason has a bad day Mason goes out and shoots 90 You know I mean Look at the last time We played a game It was 88 Yeah Because I didn't I hadn't played in a month Hadn't swum in a club Hadn't touched a club in a month So Yeah That's why I was saying Putting you up 88 Wasn't horrible to me Like I know it's still there There was things I had to tweak And you know Things I needed to work on And on top of that Putting was horrible Let's be honest Putting was horrible I will tell you Because Those greens The greens The greens at At Heron Bay Were pretty rough But But When we played down in Florida Like I said The greens were immaculate I had Three or four Downhill Putts from about four foot That I middle cupped So Very, very high concentration When it came to those And Looking at the break I'm not one that does the Plumb bob Or Any of the other things like that I kind of just Evaluate with my eyes Feel the Feel the lay of the green As I'm walking on to it With my feet Makes sense And then I kind of just Step back And almost envision in my head If I were to pour a glass of water out Which way is this water going to roll? That's To me That's a good way to think about it I never thought about it like that That to me Helps me kind of understand How this green would roll Like shoe strings Right Long shoe strings Long shoe strings But hey You can wear any kind of shoe string you want I'm looking Looking to get new shoes Are you going to do the ones That have the little twist to it? Oh man I don't know But I would love to Puma makes a good one like that It looks pretty Pretty snazzy Yeah But they're all spikeless I don't know if I would feel about Spikeless So If you had to Basically say One thing That you think Has been your best part of your game In the last 12 months What do you think is something That you could say I definitely Have seen a major Major improvement In what I'm doing To Not only just help Lower your score But just make you feel confident When that shot comes up That hey This part of my game right here I feel 100% confident That I can do what I need to do Number of fairways set Number So you're going to attack me now I've hit more fairways This year alone Than I have Since I've been playing golf That's very good On average You know Really But I really worked on my driver A lot A lot Three wood Hybrid Irons off the tee Like I just You know if it's super tight And I know how far down it is You know to like a bunker Or to a car path Or whatever Or to a creek Like I know what club I could hit And I know 70% of the time I'm going to have a fairway hit Like I'm going to put it in the fairway You get what I'm saying I'm not saying it's 100% But 70% of the time When I step up to a tee box I know I'm going to put it in the fairway So I know from there I can attack You know the green It's just Like what I'm like Like I said earlier on It's just my My approach shots Whether it be short Long You know left Right It's The worst It's the worst feeling Knowing that you're 130 yards and in How this should be your Like Your scoring clubs And you're not scoring with your scoring clubs That hurts Because At the end of the day I mean If I have a pitching wedge in my hand If I have a gap wedge in my hand Or whatever You know a 50 degree wedge Or Hell If I have a 58 degree wedge in my hand I should be putting it within A 15 feet proximity to the hole And I am not doing that So yeah I mean That's been Like the biggest strength In my game this year But it's Also led into The biggest weakness Because of my approach shots And I know if I throw these Just solely on 130 yards and in Then because I'm not spending more time You know I'm not spending time With the driver That my driver is going to go down So even though I might be putting it Closer to the hole Am I putting it so far? You know Or am I Am I missing fairways And having to take the drop Like you said You know So That's I mean that's golf though I mean at the end of the day It's golf Because When you think you have it figured out You don't have it figured out Never It'll come back And It will reward you For work you've put in It will reward you so greatly Put in one slip up And it will drag you To the The pits You'll just feel like You're just alone Defeated Lost You don't know where to go from here Should you sell the club? Should you just stop? Should you Why are you spending money To play a game? You know How could you spend another Sunday Or a Saturday? It will drag you to the worst parts Of your own mental existence And then in that 18 hole Round It'll bring you back up One shot That's it That's all it is One shot So I would have to say for me The best part of my game In the last 12 months Has to be my chipping Around the green chipping But you did chip in I did chip in I did chip in With the wrong club With the wrong club But hey That's funny But hey The chips From around the green chipping Had been solid I think I had Four or five That I put Tap in range Just You know Less than a foot From the hole This past weekend That's not bad And I did have one On a par three Where I hit it short In the bunker And it It kind of buried itself Down in the sand And I And it buried itself Down in the sand And I had a nice Out of the bunker That landed at about Three inches from the hole So I almost had two chip ins For birdie That would have been nice Especially coming out of the bunker Man That would have been great That would have been somewhere Like a fried egg Oh you ain't lying Golly So that was Best part of my round Was definitely my chipping Had a few good puts But But overall the whole year Has just been chipping Chipping I mean You know It's like You know You go Before you play a round One thing I like to do Before I play a round Especially if I get there in time Sometimes I don't get there in time Yeah I get there like ten minutes Before I'm supposed to But When I do get there on time You know Which I mean That comes with being a parent And everything else And life For sure But We deal with it If I'm chipping onto a green I like You know A lot of people They put things in big circles Makes like a three foot diamond But I mean I just do that in my head Yeah Absolutely You know Yeah And then like putting I'm not looking to go out there And make fifteen Twenty footers No You know I'm looking to get that ball Within three feet So And this will help you out Getting from seventeen point six To twelve When you go Before you go play First thing you need to do Is just go to the putting green And chip So when you chip Chip about fifteen golf balls Fifteen to twenty golf balls Okay Fifteen to twenty because Most of the time you carry Three balls in your pocket anyway When you go putt and all that So Fifteen to twenty shots Try to put it within A three foot circle Okay So now you put it In a three foot circle Now most of the time You're like okay I can get up and down For three feet So Then After you do your Fifteen to twenty chips Go over there And put You know A golf ball Around each Like three feet Make a Almost like a diamond Like a diamond A diamond A cross Whatever you want to call it You know And just Fifteen to twenty putts Make them If you do that I guarantee you In three months You'll go from Seventeen point six To about fifteen Just Just Just from Forty balls Forty balls Every time you go play You'll lower your handicap Two point six I normally When we go and Get there At a decent time Before our round starts I like to I like to chip the first You know Ten fifteen balls But then I also like to On the last five or six That I chip Chip Go up and putt From where I chip from Chip Go up and putt From where I chip from And then I come back And almost take Like you said You're not going to make A lot of fifteen to twenty putters What I try to do Before we go out there Is I'll take them Fifteen or twenty Putters And I'll practice Maybe six or eight Where I'm just trying to Lag putt up there How far are you lag putting though? I'm trying to get it Within a two foot range Yeah but how far? About fifteen twenty foot Okay Yeah that's good So I'm trying to I'm not If I make it It's a bonus If I don't make it I'm trying to land it Within that circumference Because I know that Anything inside three foot I feel comfortable with that putt Right Anything inside three foot Yeah But Then I get out there And I start to actually putt And I don't spend enough time Yeah On the three foot place That's one of the biggest things And even for people listening Like that's probably One of the biggest things In golf Is transferring what you can do On the range Or on the putting range To the actual course But again that goes back To the middle side aspect of it You know Because I mean you could have nothing wrong With your swing But you get out to the course And you're just Shanking Or you're You know you're just missing Your targets left and right And it's all middle There's There probably is nothing wrong With your swing You're probably overstaying You're probably too tense You know When you're too tense You pull it When you're too loose You shake it You know Or if you're coming Way out of it too early Like you're thinking Oh I'm not getting around Enough Let me get around When you come around Boom you're shanking the ball I think one of the One of the things That's kind of I don't want to necessarily Say help me But One of the things That I also do Try to practice as well When I'm out there On the range Before a round I try to pick out a target While I'm out there And I think that's One of the issues That a lot of people face Is when you go out there The driving range is How long Very very wide Very long So if you hit it Inside of the actual Driving range You're like Oh cool Hey yeah I hit a good shot But If you don't have a target Picked out And The goalpost Whatever it is The goalpost drill Basically That's what That's what I mean Not you so much But people listening Myself You Everybody in general Just need to Pick a goalpost drill That's That came from Good ole Harry Higgs You know Higgs talks about Picking a goalpost If he hits it Within the goalpost He's fine Wherever the ball ends up The ball ends up But as long as he's Within that goalpost He's good On the land Right On the land He hits it And it lands In between that goalpost So With the goalpost drill Like you were saying I do try to do that And try to Almost Figure in my head We know about How wide our fairways are here We don't have a lot of room So I try to pick out Let's just say You have The 300 yard marker And you got the 250 marker Right One could be That could be 100 yards apart Right Right 55 yards apart Whatever you want to make it But I try to Hit the ball In between those two flags In my head And draw the line Down from where I'm hitting And say Okay Yeah that was a good tee shot No that was a bad tee shot I feel like a lot of people Go out there And they hit A good shot on the range And it stays on the range But then they get out there And they're like Oh well I just hit it perfect on the range Well Technically You might have hit it good On the range But if you don't have that Designated spot That you're kind of Trying to hit in between I feel like A lot of people think That they're Doing something wrong When in all reality It's not really something That they're doing wrong You just don't have You're just not Aiming your shot The way it needs to be shot Yeah So I think this is a good Stopping point though I mean At the same time We've talked about What our journeys are What we're going to do To get our journeys But what I would like to do Is You can say no But what I'd like to do Is so I'm playing golf tomorrow Right? Okay I'm going to keep my scorecard I'm going to track You know Fairway hit Green hit Whatever And I think what we can do Is The next podcast We can go over that So If you end up Playing golf You know Before we meet again Before we get together You do the same thing We'll just start Keeping our scorecard And we'll just keep Keeping our scorecard We'll walk people through it Because How do you get better Without keeping stats? You know And being held accountable And holding Each other accountable That's right That's right So I think that's going to do it That's it for the For the Journeyman Podcast We'll see y'all next time
